He just grunted softly and turned away from her, scooting off to a small shelf of sweets. He didn't care to explain and he wasn't going to. So yeah. He poked at a couple of sweets and grabbed them, opening up a package and munching on one. He was gonna pay for it anyway, and people did this in Russia all the time. It was fine.
She rolls her eyes at him, unimpressed by his behavior. Heading in the opposite direction, she combs the shelves for some sort of dessert. If he wants to act like a pouting child than she’s not going to stop him. She picks up a package of Medovik and studies it. The pastry looks delicious.
He walked up to the counter where freshly baked things were sitting. He ordered a couple of them, and as the lady pulled them out she started a conversation with him about Cormac. He murmured back his responses through the sweets he picked up.
Deciding to get the Medovik, she heads over to the counter and sets it down. Digging into the bag from the pet store, she searches for her wallet. The darn thing had fallen out of her pocket so she had tossed it into the bag. Once she finds it, she pulls out the appropriate amount of money.
Cameron snatched Ava's wallet and paid for everything, handing it back once the transaction was complete. He had gotten a discount on the stuff and he wanted hers to be included too. They were wished out of the store by the nice lady.
Ava swats his hand away and grabs her wallet back. “I can pay, Cameron.” Discount or not, she prefers to pay for her own stuff. “Do you want to find something for the babies today or another day?” She knows nothing about babies so she plans on dragging him to the store sometime and having him help her pick something out for her nephews.
Cameron huffed as he carried the bag of snacks, looking up and around. "If it were a normal family, I would just suggest that we give them some cash. That's what we did when we had Cormac and it was before I was killing, so it worked out nicely. But your family's rich enough to support two boys. I would maybe grab them a second of something that they probably don't have. Twins are nice, but they probably weren't expecting it. Or maybe we can grab them diapers or bottles."
Ava frowns as she listens to him talk. “What do babies even need? I have no idea what all they have already so getting a second of something might be hard.” Obviously she knows that they need cribs and bottles and diapers but other than that……It’s a good thing that Cameron is with her. Since going to the baby shower isn’t an option she wants to ship something out soon so that it’ll reach them in time for the party. “What did you wish you had more of when Cormac was a baby?” Giving them money would be super easy but pointless.
Cameron snorted. "Money. Diapers. Bottles. More emotional support from my stupid wife." He crossed his arms and shook his head. "Those things they have, because they're an upper class family and in love. And there's nothing wrong with that. We can get them some toys or something. I think there's a nice toy store around here, and my dad used to get me like, this cool toy that would light up and vibrate a whole lot. I liked it a lot." He laughed.
Ava sighs and rubs her forehead. “Toys?” Glancing over to him, her brows knit together. That seems like an easy enough task but she has no idea what babies would like. “You seem to know what you’re doing, a lot more than I do at the very least, maybe you could just pick out a couple of toys and I could help narrow it down to one or two?” It would’ve been so much easier to just write a check. “Yeah, lets go visit this toy store.”
He glanced down at her and noticed she wasn't smiling, so his smile and his laugh abruptly died. He got the wind that she wasn't too keen on having fun at the moment. He nodded and pointed down the street. "We go down this street and we turn left. We walk for a bit more an' we're there. We'd need more than one or two, or they'd fight over it when they're older."
Listening to his directions, she nods her head to show that she understands. “Cameron, thank you for helping me with this, I really appreciate it.” She would be screwed without him. “I don’t know anything about babies so I probably would’ve ended up buying them like stock bonds or something.”
"You're welcome. And trust me, buying stock bonds for a child is somewhat… well… pointless. Your family has enough money, and besides we ourselves can't waste it. I was thinking we'd move out, but I'm not sure what my dad wants to do with the house. He might want to give it to us, or sell it and give us the money. No matter what happens, we'll need money."
“Yeah, I know but that I was the only idea I had.” She knows that it’s a stupid idea but she doesn’t do well with shopping for babies or kids. “Cameron, we have more than enough money to buy do whatever we want house wise.” Money from both of her family’s companies is still flooding in so they shouldn’t be struggling financially.
Cameron huffed at her noisily. "We're not married, and I might want to buy a house for us because I actually have a Russian ID, Ava. And I also know homes really well around here." He glanced around and started weaving between cars to turn left, sighing. It's not his fault he wanted to instinctively save his money.
“Yeah, I know we’re not married.” Ava rolls her eyes at him. “Money still isn’t an issue. If you want to buy a Russian house then you can. You know that I’ll help out with money if needed.” This is a sensitive subject and one that she usually prefers to avoid. “I don’t want this to turn into a fight.”
He just mumbled and shrugged. He still had somewhat bad habits from before he was making a lot of money. And now that he was basically retired with millions in his bank account, it was just strange. He wasn't used to it. He was used to working and supporting something. He wanted to go back to paying his own bills and running a restaurant. And maybe he could, but that would be much later.
Sighing, she crosses her arms and looks away from him. Talk of money always makes things tense. She pulls out her phone and checks on a few things. An email from her father causes her to actually stop walking for a moment. She shoots back a quick reply before shoving the device back into her pocket and speed walking to catch back up to Cameron.
Cameron thought she was still behind him, so he wasn't aware she stopped in traffic to answer. He kept walking, looking around the shopping center with a small sigh. It was so nice here. He allowed the familiar gray buildings to calm him down and bring back memories as he walked. It was almost all completely the same.
Ava glances around, relieved when she spots him in the crowd. It’s a good thing that replying only took a second or she would’ve lost him. Brushing past a few people, she ends up right next to him again. She definitely needs to talk to him when they get a chance. Fidgeting nervously, she studies her surroundings. It’s a nice little shopping center.
His hands were relaxed in his pockets as he held the bag he was trusted with. He had also grabbed another one of the chews he got and was chewing on that when she ran up to him. He looked down at her, his eyebrows raised.
"Where'd you go?"
“I was just checking something,” She tells him with a shake of her head, knowing that’s neither the time nor place to discuss this. “Which store is the one we need?” Hopefully looking for baby stuff with help keep her mind off of that email for now.
"It's coming up soon," He responded, deciding not to talk to her about why she stopped. He kept an eye out, and after a couple more moments of walking in silence, led her into a store, set up like a Wal-Mart except for toys as far as the eye could see.
Nodding, she silently trails after him. This time she just ignores her phone when it goes off. She’ll deal with her father later. Entering the toy store, she looks around at everything. It’s almost overwhelming. “Okay, I’m still not entirely sure what we’re looking for so you’re going to have to take charge here.”
"They're going to be your nephews, Ava. I think you should at least pick out something you used to like as a kid. Maybe they'll like it too." He glanced around here and there, leading her to the infant's section. "We can get them toys for when they're infants, then maybe toddler."
