Cameron looked concerned as she hung up the phone quickly. "What happened, Ava?" Unlike her, he was only bilingual. She tried teaching him Croatian but it didn't really work out as much. He moved closer to her so their shoulders were pressed together.
(sorry for the short answer.)
“They’re both assholes.” Ava tosses the phone across the bed, scowling. “No ‘congratulations’ or ‘I’m happy for you’, just ‘finally’ and ‘are you pregnant?’” It was incredibly rude. She expects these sorts of comments from her father but not from her brother. To be fair, she’s pretty sure that he didn’t mean to be an ass but that’s just how it came out.
Cameron sighed slowly and tilted his head back to look at the ceiling. "Honestly, fuck them. Never your brother, but your dad? I hate him." He shut his eyes with another deep sigh heaving from the depths of his chest. "Let's just go out and enjoy ourselves. If he calls you back and tries to reason with you, just tell him you're staying here and hang up." He stood up and took her hands.
“I mean, what the actual hell? He didn’t make this comments when Chris got engaged. Why the fuck does he have to act like this now? Because I’m his daughter and not his son? It’s so wrong for him to assume that I’m getting married because of a baby.” Ava sighs, incredibly pissed off. “Oh, screw that. I’m not even going to pick up the phone if he calls.” Right now, she wouldn’t even give him the time of day. She takes his hands and stands up, ready to leave the room and get out on the beach. Anything to get her mind off of those idiots would be perfect.
"Yeah! And you think I'm being ridiculous when I tell you your dad's a fucking asshole! Okay? I said it. He's the type of guy who only believes that males in families are important and females are just there to carry children. Especially in his case, because he wants to retire!" He stopped her and pulled her back into the room, squeezing her hands.
"Look. I want to just leave all of these negative thoughts here, with your phone. We're gonna have a good ass time, and float around on the salty water."
“Cameron, calm down. I know that you hate him, it’s pretty obvious. You both bristle when you’re in the same room. My dad is an asshole but he is my dad. Without him, I wouldn’t have made it very far in life. His opinions on family life are old fashioned and he’s power hungry but it’s not like anything anyone does is gonna change that.” She merely trails along after him, just wanting to relax. “The phone is on the bed and is on silent. Let’s just get out to the water and get some of those fruity drinks with the stupid ass umbrellas.”
"Yes– yes I hate him and he knows it." Cameron wanted to stab that son of a bitch a thousand times just to give his Ava a little bit of justice. "Of course. On silent." He moved out of the room, still holding her hand as he led her out of the room.
"We'll get the stupid drinks with the stupid umbrellas with an absurd amount of alcohol in it. And we can just enjoy each other."
“Everyone knows it.” People tend to leave the room because of the tension. She glances over her shoulder once before exiting the room. “At least we don’t have to deal with the shit he puts Chris and Mallory through. They’re having babies and the only kids we have are ones with paws.” She almost sounds disappointed by this. “No phones, no families, no rude comments, just us.” It’s the weekend away that they desperately need.
(We’re heading home early so my schedule is mostly back on track. Things will be a little hectic for a few days because of unpacking and stuff but everything is normal other than that)
(Oof ok! Sorry I’m at a relative’s house. I’ll answer soon, or when I get home.)
(Take your time and have fun with your relative!)
(I LIEEDD I can answer now lmao)
Cameron grunted his agreement as he walked out to the elevator and leaned against the wall after pressing the ground floor button for them.
“You’re too right, baby. They’re the unfortunate ones because they had kids.” He chuckled but soon opened his arms for her. “C’mere, gimme a hug.”
(Yay!!! lol)
Ava enters the elevator with a huff, mostly lost in her thoughts. “Matthew and William.” She has to admit that she’s not overly fond of the names but she can’t wait to meet her nephews. Only a few more weeks until they’re born. Turning to face him, she just flops into his arms. “We are never having kids.” Having to deal with her dad now is bad enough but having to deal with him if they had kids would be unbearable.
(Now I'm back home ^~^)
Cameron gave a slow hum, his arms still sticking out. He beamed when she flopped all of her weight against him, easily capturing her into his warm embrace.
"Never. Cormac was more than enough and I didn't even raise him." He sighed deeply. He still wished he was there for his son. But at least he was in contact with him again. It was nice to be able to send him good morning texts and ask him other dad stuff.
(I hope your trip was nice!)
Ava leans up against him, fully trusting that he won’t just drop her. There’s a fairly large height difference so him holding her isn’t hard.
“Babies are cute but there’s no way I could ever handle one.” Babysitting her nephews is going to be hard enough when that had to happen. “It’s just going to be us and our pups.” That’s all she ever needs to be happy. They’re way too busy for kids anyways and her line of work is super dangerous. At least the chance of a mess up is really low. They are both very careful. She’d consider getting her tubes tied but she doesn’t have the time or want to deal with the recovery period.
(thanks)
He supported her easily, relaxing back against the side of the elevator as they went down slowly.
"Yep. We're just gonna be a family of pups and two humans." He rubbed her back gently, humming softly. He sat up a little off of the wall, gently nudging her. "Come on, let's go enjoy ourselves." The elevator doors opened and he slipped out from under her, taking her hand and bringing her along with soft hums.
“And maybe a cat or two.” She’s certainly not opposed to owning more than one type of animal. With a quiet sigh, she straightens up and steps away from him. “I am so happy that we’re here.” The beach is one of her favorite places to be. She smiles slightly before giving his hand a light squeeze and exiting the elevator.
"Mmmm I dunno, cats don't really like me," He said gently as he followed her. Though he'd get a cat with her if she really wanted one.
"I'm happy too, baby. It's good to be somewhere nice and warm again." He led her up to the water. "So, don't swim in this water. If you do, the salt will sting your eyes. You should just float on it."
“The dogs probably wouldn’t appreciate a cat either,” She admits, considering it. “I’m so glad to be out of the snow. Tank tops and shorts are things that I’ve really missed.” That’s actually what she’s wearing at the moment. “Mmhm, got it.” The hotel has a pool so she can use that if she really wants to swim. She drags him over to the water, excited.
Cameron hummed as she spoke, nodding. He let her drag him over, the rather cool water taking their feet in.
"Alright, so do you want me to go first to show you how to float on it without going under? I used to do this all the time when I was in the army."
Ava smiles as the cool water rushes over her feet. It feels amazing, especially after sending so much time in the snow.
“Go ahead.” Getting salt in her eyes wouldn’t feel great and would mess up what should be a perfect vacation. She releases his hand so that he can demonstrate the correct floating technique.
Cameron grinned and carefully walked into the water, moving so he was gazing at her. He let his legs float up slowly, until he was back down and face up to the sky.
"It's pretty easy. You just gotta let the water lift you up. It might lift you faster than it did me since I'm bigger and all."
Ava stands back and watches him with a highly amused expression on her face. “Okay, I’ll give this a try.” Moving deeper into the water, she gives herself a moment to get used to the slightly colder temperature. She copies what Cameron had done and is soon content floating on her back. “The water feels amazing.” The warm weather improves her mood a hundred times.
"It sure does, Ava." He shut his eyes and mouth tight after he agreed. "Try to keep your eyes and mouth shut, though, the water can splash in your mouth," He said before he shut it. He remembered one time he almost puked because he got the salty water in his mouth. It tasted super bad, and he didn't want her to suffer.
Heeding his warning, she closes her eyes and shuts her mouth. She moved her fingers around in the water, just taking everything in. The next time they go to a beach (one with a lower salt content), she’s determined to get him to go either scuba diving or snorkeling with her. She hums happily as she float, soaking up the warm sun.
