Ava studies the booties for a few minutes, looking at sizes and durability more so than patterns. The longer these last, the better. She selects a couple before moving onto the sweaters. There’s one with a simple bird pattern that she thinks with suit Kreja well. Her main goal is to find something he won’t tear up.
Cameron wasn't worried about durability as he watched her walk around. The pups would grow out of their things soon, and if they chewed them up, that'd be fine. He meandered over to the food section, humming happily as he found the brand of food they use, except in a Russian bagging. That was good enough for him.
Ava finishes up with the sweaters and booties, hoping that everything will fit. If they don’t then they can return them or make toys out of them. “Is this all we need?” Glancing over to him, she’s glad to see that they’ll be able to keep their dog food brand. They have the booties, the sweaters, and food so she’s fairly certain that they’ve checked everything off of their list.
"Yeah. We should probably grab them a couple of toys or something," He mused, meandering over to poke at a couple. He squeezed a soft hedgehog one and it squeaked. Zore would like that. But they needed to get tougher toys for all of them.
With a nod, she moves over to the toy section and looks at the options. A bright green frog catches her attention. It’s a tougher material and it squeaks. She picks it up and examines it. Kreja has a love/hate relationship with frogs so this is perfect. She picks up a bunny made out of the same material. “For Rose?” There’s also a cute squirrel that would be good for Zore.
Cameron meandered after her when she went to another section, blinking at the frog plush and chuckling. He grabbed the bunny and nodded, smiling at the squirrel.
"The girls are gonna be psyched."
Ava smiles as she picks up the squirrel as well. “All three toys have squeakers so you know it’s going to be loud.” Laughing quietly, she shakes her head in amusement as she pictures how excited the dogs are going to be. At least the new toys will keep them busy and happy.
"It's going to be unholy loud."
Cameron grinned back and took her up to the counter, where he paid for everything. The sale's clerk wished them a good day after bagging their things and went back into their back room.
Ava follows him up to the counter, glancing at the front displays as they get ringed up. Taking the bags, she offers a small smile. “Where to next?” It’s either more shopping or they head back to the house. She doesn’t have an opinion on the matter so she’ll leave it up to him.
Cameron smiled back and walked out into the town again. "There's a nice bakery and sweets shop ahead if you wanted to visit that," He said, reminiscing of the times when he walked down and got home-made rolls and sweets.
Ava hums quietly as she steps out of the store and back into the cold. “Yeah, that would be nice.” Despite her usually healthy eating habits, she has a major sweet tooth. “How many of these shops where here when you were growing up?”
He started at an easy trot along the crowd with her, sighing deeply. "Jeez, I don't remember. I think a lot of them are still here. There's really good business along this road because this is the path most people take to get to work."
“It’s pretty nice here.” Looking around, she just takes everything in. There are a bunch of people milling around which is great. She smiles when a group of kids run past, playing with some dogs. “Cute.” The comment is aimed more so at the dogs than the kids.
Cameron glanced at her once at the comment, assuming she meant the kids with a look of concern briefly flickering across his face. Did she want kids and he was just deaf and blind to it? He paused in front of the bakery before he himself even knew it, and pushed open the door for her.
Ava turns away once the dogs are out of sight. They were some kind of husky or malamute mixes and were adorable. Being here brings up so many memories, some horrible but some great. The one that she’s choosing to concentrate on is when she got her precious Kreja. “Thanks.” She steps into the bakery, taking a deep breath. It smells amazing.
Cameron smiled bright as he walked into the warm bakery, looking around at all of the shelves. Before he could say anything to Ava, a elderly woman's voice hummed, "Мой сын вернулся ко мне!" Cameron turned, spotting an old woman wobble out. She was the owner of the bakery and she knew Cameron very well. She was very old and aged, but she was still strong on her feet as she walked out to him. Cameron's expression was one of happiness and glee as he went for a hug, but rather got slapped in the face. "И он не пришел в мой магазин, когда он пришел?" She added on after the slap.
Ava turns upon hearing another voice. Based off of the reactions from both Cameron and the old woman, they know each other. She’s expecting a sweet reunion but it doesn’t go quite how she expected. Much to her surprise, the little lady slaps Cameron across the face. Eyes going wide, she gasps. This trip just got a whole hell of a lot more entertaining. Rather than saying or doing anything, she just steps back and lets this play out. Whatever is going on doesn’t involve her.
"Но мама, я не мог, ты не понимаешь?" He asked back in a soft voice unlike one he has used before as he moved back with Ava, somewhat tempted to hide his big self behind her. "Я был в Америке, мама!"
"Твой отец сказал мне, что ты посетил!" The woman shot back, and Cameron simpered under the accusation. He was struck dumb and his cheeks were a faint red.
The situation gets even more interesting the longer she listens. “Wait, mom? That’s your mom?” She certainly hasn’t been expecting that. “Cam, you may want to consider apologizing before she slaps you again.” Unwilling to allow him to hide from this, she gently nudges him forward.
"No– no she's not my mom. She's basically like, adopted me. It's like she's not my legal mum, or my biological mum, but she's my mum," He explained meekly as he backed away from the furious old lady. "And I can't just apologize to her, Ava. Извини, мама, я знаю, что должен был поздороваться!"
“Well you need to do something,” She insists, not eager to see him get slapped for a second time. This situation is making her reevaluate how crazy her own family is. “What did you even do to piss her off this much?” Unfortunately, she had missed a few bits of the conversation. All she knows is that Cameron’s mom is furious at him.
The lady started to talk to him in rapid Russian that only Cameron could respond to. His attempts of apology were mostly futile until the end of her speech, when she took him in a reluctant hug, muttering about how she was glad to have him back. Cameron sighed and relaxed visibly, hugging her back. It was strange to see.
Ava looks back and forth between the two, struggling to keep up with the conversation. They’re talking too fast for her to understand but she manages to catch a word or two. It’s a lot of apologizing on Cameron’s part from what she can tell. Luckily, the conversation ends with a hug. That has to be a good sign. She stands awkwardly off to the side, honestly not sure what to do.
Cameron looked like a guilty little puppy as he was forced to bend down to hug her, but he seemed to be extremely relieved. He sat up straight once she gave him a kiss on the cheek and shuffled off to stand near the counter. Cameron moved back over to Ava with a soft sigh, looking like he wasn't going to talk for an entire week, he had been so reprimanded by the woman.
Ava studies Cameron, her brows raised. “Care to explain?” Clearly she had missed a lot. Witnessing this was like being a side character in a soap opera. The look on his face when he comes back over to her reminds her so much of the puppies when they’re scolded for doing something wrong. She doesn’t know whether to laugh or to hug him. In the end, she snickers a little but soothingly pats his arm.
