He leaned his head against the window. "I'm not much of a stargazer. Got too many problems down on the ground to worry about the sky."
He leaned his head against the window. "I'm not much of a stargazer. Got too many problems down on the ground to worry about the sky."
"Spent my nights staring at the stars and wishing I could get away." Her voice was quiet.
"Away from what? You've had everything you could imagine and more. Sounds like heaven to me."
Her grip on the steering wheel tightened, and she forced a smile. "I guess you are right about that."
He noticed her change and sighed. "I said something wrong, right? Sorry."
"I have no right to complain to you, not when your life has been much harder than mine."
"Everyone has there own hardships in different ways. I'm not one to judge why someone's unhappy, I was just asking why."
"I do not talk to any of my family, for different reasons I will not share quite yet, but what you see now is entirely of my own making. Endless hours of nothing but work and caffeine." She glanced over at him. "This is not family money, it is my own."
He rubbed his face, asking, "What do you do?"
"I am mainly a prosecution lawyer. The card I gave you is the general business card for the firm I work at." It was easier for her to talk about her work, made obvious as she slowly started to relax.
"And there's an opening there?" he shook his head. "That's obvious, I'm sorry. Why else would you give me the card?"
"Our old secretary quit, to take care of the child she had on the way." She explained. "And you need a new job. It worked out."
"Yeah, it has." He seemed to loosen up a bit. "Today has been a really good day for me."
She took one hand off the wheel, and grabbed his, smiling softly. "I'm glad to be a part of this new chapter, if you do not get sick of me."
"He squeezed her hand. "I can't imagine getting sick of you."
Her cheeks were painted with a rosy color, and her smile brightened. "Quite romantic. We shall see."
"Only quite? Looks like I've gotta step up my game."
"The French are known for romance." She joked. "The bar is set fairly high."
"I can see that." He unbuckled as she parked in front of a very small, very old home. "Here we are."
((sksksksk she never asked for directions lmao here's to pretending
"It is cute." She said, gesturing to the house as she reluctantly let go of his hand.
((Plot holes bigger than volcano
"It's a piece of junk, to be honest. But it has a roof, electricity and beds, so whatever." He opened the door and got out. "Oh Lord….how is Emma gonna react to us? She is one for the dramatics."
"That is a potentially terrifying thought." She replied, following suit.
He offered his hand as he stepped onto the sidewalk, looking at the home to the right of his. "Living room light's on, they must still be awake."
She took the hand happily. "Probably waiting for you."
He walked up to the door and rang the doorbell, hearing the pitter patter of feet and the sound of someone struggling with the door handle. "Finally!" Emma said, after opening the door, then peered up at Manon before resting on their hands. "Are you two dating?"
"Well I would hope so. Otherwise this all would be extremely awkward." Children are so blunt. It is refreshing, to be honest.
"Why are you so tall?" She asked. "How are you supposed to kiss him when you're up there?" This made Eli blush slightly.
Manon smirked, pointing at her shoes. "I just take these off. Then I am closer to his height."
He smiled, letting go of Manon's hand to pick Emma up as a woman in her mid 20's walked around the corner, holding Jaiden in her arms and smile on her face. "Hey, I thought I heard your voice," she said, her smile fading slightly when she looked at Manon. "Who's she?"
((Plot twist, ooo
