He smiled slightly. "That makes me feel a little better. I thought I've been blowing this so far."
He smiled slightly. "That makes me feel a little better. I thought I've been blowing this so far."
"You have been doing just fine."
His smiled widened and he rubbed his chin. "We should probably get going to my house. Neighbors have to be at their wits end."
She nodded, pulling out her keys. "Well then, shall we be off?"
He nodded, still smiling as he began to walk to her truck. "Don't forget your shoes."
He nodded, still smiling as he began to walk to her truck. "Don't forget your shoes."
Instead of putting them back on, she just picked them up and carried them with her. "Good catch."
"But of course." He waited by the door patiently.
She caught up easily, unlocking the truck and opening his door, before going around to climb back into the driver's seat.
"Aw, how sweet," he said, getting into the car and buckling in.
"Chivalry is important." She quipped jokingly, winking at him.
At that he laughed, his eyes squinting as he did.
His laugh is incredible. She shook her head, smiling.
He was still chuckling lightly as he looked out of the window, watching the sunset. "I hate the winter here. It's only 6 o'clock, but it's already getting dark."
"I kind of like it. It means the stars are out earlier." She glanced out the window to her side.
He leaned his head against the window. "I'm not much of a stargazer. Got too many problems down on the ground to worry about the sky."
"Spent my nights staring at the stars and wishing I could get away." Her voice was quiet.
"Away from what? You've had everything you could imagine and more. Sounds like heaven to me."
Her grip on the steering wheel tightened, and she forced a smile. "I guess you are right about that."
He noticed her change and sighed. "I said something wrong, right? Sorry."
"I have no right to complain to you, not when your life has been much harder than mine."
"Everyone has there own hardships in different ways. I'm not one to judge why someone's unhappy, I was just asking why."
"I do not talk to any of my family, for different reasons I will not share quite yet, but what you see now is entirely of my own making. Endless hours of nothing but work and caffeine." She glanced over at him. "This is not family money, it is my own."
He rubbed his face, asking, "What do you do?"
"I am mainly a prosecution lawyer. The card I gave you is the general business card for the firm I work at." It was easier for her to talk about her work, made obvious as she slowly started to relax.
