Oliana couldn't connect Abigail's train of thought. "Does it mean…what? Don't do this to me, Abigail. I can't handle this kind of thing. Just tell me, please."
Oliana couldn't connect Abigail's train of thought. "Does it mean…what? Don't do this to me, Abigail. I can't handle this kind of thing. Just tell me, please."
“I don’t know, I’m still processing everything, Oliana. At this moment, I don’t know what to think or say or even do. I’m confused and I don’t like being confused!” She frowned, grumbled something and laid back on the bed. Her eyes looked up at the cracked ceiling and sighed. “Who would ever thought that you and I would be stuck with a mission that seems impossible to complete.”
Oliana left the device and moved back in the bed, leaning against the wall. She brought her knees to her chest and covered her face with her hands. "This is the worst I've ever felt."
Abigail grabbed the pillow and used it to cover her face. For once in her life, she didn’t know what to do. She didn’t know what to say to make Oliana feel better. It’d be better if I stay silent. That way I won’t be able to say anything that could upset her even more.
Tears started to form in Oliana's eyes. She looked up at the ceiling to try and stop them from falling, but it didn't work. They began to roll down her cheeks, and she decided against wiping them away.
The silence confused Abigail, but she also welcomed it. It took her a couple of seconds before realizing that something was wrong. Usually, Oliana would be saying something super smart that Abigail didn’t understand half of the time.
“Oliana?”
"Mmm?" Oliana hummed, not really registering anything. This was weighing down on her more than anyone else. To have fought for years against a cause and then to find out it was your fault the whole time…it was devastating.
Abigail took off the pillow off her face and threw it at the wall, where it landed at a far corner of the bed. She looked up at ceiling, interested in the cracks and what the cracks formed. “This might be a very stupid question, and I know that, but are you okay?”
To be truthful, Oliana didn't know. She could tell she wasn't: that much was clear. But she couldn't bring herself to admit it, and that was half the problem. She stayed silent, not knowing how to answer.
Abigail closed her eyes, accepting Oliana’s silence. If she was Oliana, she would go silent, since a question like that would be difficult to answer, especially if she didn’t want to admit that she was not okay. Without knowing, she curled up into a ball and managed to fall asleep.
Oliana couldn't sleep. How could she, with so much running through her head? It would have been impossible. And indeed it was. It was made even worse by the fact that Abigail had fallen asleep so quickly.
She had only managed to get about thirty minutes of sleep before being awoken by particularly nobody. She blinked and sighed, sitting up straight, looking straight ahead into the dark. She had thought that with the days of sleep she had lost, she would easily fall asleep, but it seemed she wasn’t going to get sleep anytime soon.
Oliana noticed when Abigail sat up, but she didn't say anything. Her eyes were sore but her body wouldn't let her sleep. She wished it would. She needed to sleep this off.
Looking around, she noticed how awfully dark it was. The dark wasn’t a thing she enjoyed, on contrary, her room in her apartment had at least one light on, due to the fact that as a child, she always hated the dark and something traumatic had happened to her while it was dark. She slowly got off the bed, and once she was off, she started walking around in circles, hoping that that would make her tired.
"Walking isn't going to make you tired, Abigail," Oliana said softly. "It will only boost the melatonin in your system, which will make you sleepy. But that won't make you tired or sleep."
She stopped for a moment, but then continued walking in circles once again. “You’re right, but walking in circles is gonna make me dizzy, and sooner or later, I might hit my head on this wall.” She said as she motioned the wall near her. Everything started looking all fuzzy, and that’s where she decided to try to stop herself from spinning around.
"That won't help you either. Being dizzy while trying to sleep is dangerous: it messes with your senses and will eventually make you sick. And I think you've already got enough pain."
“Yes, I can see that now, Oliana. At the moment, I have a bit more important problem than trying to kill myself with pain. Again.” Abigail mumbled as she managed to stop herself from spinning around. She stood straight for a couple of seconds before falling onto the cold ground. “Floor sweet floor.”
Oliana lied down on the bed, staring up at the ceiling. She suddenly remembered that Abigail's dogs were here, but they were so quite that she had forgotten. "What are your dogs' names?"
Abigail sighed and rolled around on the ground. When she was about three feet away from Oliana she stopped and sat up. She looked around and grabbed a sharp object that was just laying on the ground. “One is named Eurus and the other is named Mallory.”
"Oh, cute. I've always been more of a cat person. I have two. A Scottish Fold and a Calico. Hades and Persephone. I like Greek Mythology."
Abigail payed a bit more attention to the object she was holding in her hands than she was to Oliana. She looked over to Oliana, and she was sure Oliana wouldn’t even notice because of how dark the room was. “Oh, those are beautiful names.” She stopped for a bit and traced her finger around a symbol on the metal of the item. “I’ve always liked Greek Mythology. It’s one of the reasons why one of them is named Eurus.”
"Funny thing, Persie is actually pregnant. So far we've seen five kittens in ultrasounds. So now I need to find names for them. I might give a couple away but I'm hoping that it doesn't come to that. All I have is Makaria. That's the name I love most out of Persephone's children."
Abigail smiled as she stood up and put the sharp object on the counter. “A bundle of joy! How wonderful, and Makaria is such a lovely name.” She paused and sat back down. “If you want, I can help you coming up with names for the kittens.” Abigail offered.
"I've always loved the names Artemis and Apollo though, so I may call two of them that." She sighed. This whole conversation was taking her mind off the thing she didn't want to think about.
