Cameron eventually closed his book, setting it aside and stretching with a quiet sigh. He looked over at Calixto, wondering if the other man was alright, but not wanting to pester him.

Cal seemed to notice the movement, snapping him out of his thoughts. He was overly aware of things around him, still self trained to be cautious. It was ironic seeing how the very man who he was constantly aware of was on his mind, distracting him when he got captured. And to think that was just yesterday… or today… he didn't even know.

"You alright?" Cameron eventually asked, looking over at Calixto. "Need anything?" He cracked his knuckles, rolling his neck and shoulders, his neck letting out little pops and cracks too, with each shift.

Most might have been startled by the sudden popping of so many joints, but it didn't seem to bother Calixto any. It honestly gave him the impression that the other must have been sitting there awhile. "I'm fine," he lied, not wanting to divulge into the vault of trauma trapped in his mind. Again. He couldn't let his mind get so bad like in the inn that night or like moments ago. "I don't, no," he added after a moment, referring to the second question.

(ok so in school we just finished Frankenstein and holy crap, Cal's kind basically are modern versions of the creature because they were so badly hurt for just wanting a home-)

"Alright." Cameron let out a faint breath, smiling a little over at Calixto, then looking away again after a moment, running his hands through his hair.

(Avshshsb I am a Victor fan and not a Creature fan, but I can see where you're coming from, yeah)
(Also uh. I feel kinda stuck and don't know what to do in the RP)

(hghreie my friend is such a Creature fan and she would happily punt Victor into the sun)
(Whereas I'm here entirely neutral because both were at fault in some ways)

Cal looked towards the bowl full of… whatever it was. There were little colorful shapes scattered amongst tanish bits. He didn't understand what it was so he hadn't eaten any of it.

(Yeah I get that, I just don't think being abandoned as a baby justifies murder of multiple people)

He followed Cal's gaze. "Oh, you want some?" He asked, standing and stretching again with a faint smile. "You're welcome to some, if you like."

(Victor did abandon him, yes, but if he learned to be benevolent and truly took that to heart, then he wouldn't have murdered others. The point being if he had his own morals created and such then he was responsible for his own actions smh)

"I don't even know what it is," Cal stated, not exactly eager to try anything from the bowl. It looked too brightly colored to be considered anything that wasn't artificial. Sure, fruits and vegetables were brightly colored as well, but it was clear they were grown fresh in most circumstances.

(exactly! And everyone's like "oh it's not the creatures fault" like bitch he knew exactly what he was fucking doing, don't give me shit)

"It's, uhm, candy." He said, picking up a piece in his hand. "It's not exactly healthy, but I love it anyway." He looked at Calixto uncertainly.

Oh. That made more sense. He was probably still a bit out of sorts in memory recollection after having slept so much. Even if it was off and on, it was a lot of time being unconscious. That was a scary thought in itself.
He'd never had a lot of candy, but when he had, it wasn't all it was hyped up to be. "I've never had any of this kind before…" he hummed. Despite the fact he didn't quite care for the sweets, he reached for a random piece and stuck it in his mouth.

Cameron was quiet, watching him with a faint smile. "Whatcha think?" He asked once Cal was done with it. "It's junk food, really, but it isn't bad."

Cal furrowed his brows some at Cameron’s comment. “I’ve had candy before,” he stated, making sure to keep his tone on the lighter side to keep Cameron from apologizing for the millionth time. “Never liked it much, but this one’s not bad or anything.”

"Oh. Right. Just– sorry." He said, shaking his head a little. "Your reaction was just…I thought you hadn't. Sorry." He looked over at Calixto with a faint smile

Of course his attempt didn't help any. "Stop apologizing. There's not any point to it if you haven't done anything," he reminded again after he pushed the candy into the inside of his cheek to speak. The only time where he would ever really want an apology would be if Cameron ever physically hurt him or spoke like his old master did. He found the idea unlikely, but not impossible.

"Ah. Right. Sor–" he broke off with a faint sigh, shaking his head a little bit. "Argh." He felt a little bit stupid, really, for being like this and apologizing so much.

Cal let out a sigh. "You really make it hard for me to understand you," he commented. It was true. He had no idea what would give him such an apologetic person to someone he hadn't wronged.

"Uh–" he almost apologized again. But didn't. "I don't mean to be?" He looked over at Cal, making a slight face. "I don't know what else to say."

"You just confuse me. No one who has endured that much pain himself by his own kind can be this apologetic and nice to someone they barely know," he replied, being overly blunt about his thoughts once again.

He cocked his head faintly. "Oh. I…I guess the reason I'm like this is because I've been hurt? I don't know." He shook his head.

Calixto let out a sigh. "Even I've heard the expression 'hurting people hurt," he said. That used to be a common excuse for all the abuse his kind was put through. While it was probably true, there were things that lie couldn't cover.

He frowned. "But that's…I…not all of us do. That doesn't justify anything." He said, shaking his head and frowning. "Being hurt doesn't justify hurting someone else."

“Never said it did. Not everything is right, but people do it anyways,” he hummed. Cal wasn’t implying it was just human kind either. His own race were quite similar to them in that way. It wasn’t as common, but one could get away with so much as long as they hid their eyes.

"Well, but…I don't do that." He said, a little unsure about what it meant that Cal seemed to think him capable of being that sort of person.

It wasn't Cameron's fault. Really, it wasn't. He was quite distrustful of everyone. Cal made a small noise before running a hand through his hair. "Just forget it," he muttered eventually.

Cameron nodded faintly. "Okay." he said softly, not wanting to push about it anymore, and irritate Calixto.
