Lucas grimaced.
“Sorry, Ash,” he kissed her on the forehead gently. “I’ll be back as soon as I can.”
He put on his socks and shoes before grabbing his keys and walking out.

Ashley watched him walk away without moving from her spot. When he left, she sighed and rubbed her face.
"Love you," she murmured to the closed door before she made her way to the bedroom. A choked sob made its way past her lips as she changed into pajamas. She was no longer hungry. All she wanted to do was go to sleep…
(😭)
When Lucas came back home, he noticed it was quiet. He figured Ashley was asleep. It was confirmed when he went inside their room and saw her fallen asleep.
He smiled softly, walking into their bathroom. He was just about to wash his face when he caught something extremely familiar.
His faced paled.
It was a pregnancy test.
And it was positive.
Damn it. How was this possible? He could have sworn they always used—his eyes widened. Of course. Of course! They forgot to use protection that time. How careless could he have gotten? Was that why she was so upset? And he just left her like that. What type of a boyfriend was he?
A stupid one.
Lucas, with the test still in his hand, walked over to their bed and peered at Ashley, his heart squeezing painfully when he noticed the tear stains on her cheeks. He hated himself more and more.
Setting himself on the bed, Lucas rested his face in his hands, curious with himself.
What type of an idiot was he? To tie his girlfriend down because of his carelessness? To leave her alone when she needed him?
(Aw, Lucas…)
Ashley stirred when Lucas sat down and blinked her eyes open sleepily. She looked at him for a moment before she noticed what he held in his hand.
“Lucas, I…” she started, sitting up and reaching for him. When she continued, her voice was barely more than a whisper, “I didn’t know how to tell you…”
Lucas fell silent for a while, running his hand through his hair in frustration.
“How long have you known?” He asked her, refusing to look at her.
“I knew for sure right before you got home… But I had an idea of it about an hour before then,” Ashley told him quietly as she hung her head, unable to meet his gaze.
Lucas finally looked at Ashley, his eyes softening up. He stood up and set the test aside, scooping Ashley into his arms.
"Hey, this doesn't change anything between us, okay?" he said to her softly. "I don't love you any less. Nothing's changed."
Ashley sniffed and buried her face in his shoulder, hugging him back tightly. “I just know we’re not ready… We just talked about this not that long ago…”
Lucas cupped her cheeks, wiping her damp eyes. He pressed his lips against her forehead, giving her a light kiss.
"I know we're not ready," he said softly. "But we can do this, can't we? We've got nine months. I'm not going to force you into anything and I'd rather kill myself than give up this baby if you want it, or leave you behind because it wasn't in the plan. Listen, Ash, I love you more than anything in the world. I'll be here at every step of the way. I'll be right by your side, so you don't have to worry. I'll protect you and the baby. I'll work hard. So don't worry. Don't cry."
(Aw, Lucas… 😭)
Ashley let out a choked sob before taking Lucas’s face in her hands and pressing a long kiss to his lips, tears streaming down her face the whole time. She was so grateful to have him; he was so thoughtful. And she was so glad that he wouldn’t leave her.
“Thank you,” she murmured against his lips. She pressed kiss after kiss to his mouth, murmuring softly the entire time, “I love you, I love you, I love you…”
Lucas pulled her closer into his lap, wrapping his arms tighter around him.
"I love you, too…" he whispered, kissing her back, running his fingers through her hair. "I'm nothing without you, all right? Never, ever think I'm going to leave you behind because that's never happening. You're stuck with me for eternity."
Ashley giggled softly and buried her face in his neck. “Well, it’s good that I never want to leave you anyway, isn’t it?” she joked through her tears.
Lucas laughed and nodded, kissing her on the top of her head again.
“Just protect me from your dad, yeah?” Lucas joked. “I’m sure he wouldn’t hesitate to skin me alive.”
Ashley gasped, then groaned and held onto him tighter. “Oh, no… What are we going to tell our parents?”
Lucas grimaced.
“Honestly, I have no idea,” he sighed. “They’ll understand, though. I’m sure of it.”
“I hope so… I hope your mom understands,” Ashley said softly, chewing on her lip.
Of course, Lucas thought with a sigh. His mother herself was born with unmarried parents. “She would understand. My mom’s really understanding. She would definitely understand.”
“Okay… Well, good…” Ashley sighed as exhaustion swept over her. “I’m tired, babe… Mind if I go back to sleep?”
Lucas nodded, a smile on his face.
“Go to sleep,” he said softly. “We can call our parents tomorrow. The sooner they hear about it, the better.”
Ashley nodded and laid back down on their bed. She turned to look at him, a small smile finally making its way to her lips.
“Will you be joining me soon?” she wondered quietly, yawning.
Lucas nodded.
“I’m going going to use the bathroom and then I’ll join you,” he said, patting her on the head lightly. “You go to sleep, okay?”
Ashley’s eyes slowly closed, and she hummed her response. “M’kay… Goodnight, love…”
Lucas kissed her on the forehead.
“Goodnight, sweetheart,” he whispered before walking towards the bathroom.
When he was finished, he crawled into bed next to her and wrapped his arms around her, pulling her close. Although nervousness clawed at his chest, he found himself falling asleep peacefully.
(Should we skip to morning?)
