Eclipse hummed softly, thinking about it.
Eclipse hummed softly, thinking about it.
"Just a fun thought," Felix sighed, "I don't know, I find myself dreaming a lot about what could've been had I not been essentially forced into a life of crime."
Eclipse hummed softly, that thought seeming to spin through his head, drawing up all the times he'd found a haiding plae and would dream about being someone else. All the what-if's hitting him in the face.
"I take it that's something you've thought about too, huh?" Felix guessed, "I was a damned street rat at best."
He chuckled a little to himself.
"Iulius coerced me into working with him and tried tricking me into having gratitude for what he supposedly did for me. Which… I mean, I am. A little. But he was still awful."
Eclipse hummed softly, only one thought entering his mind at that; You could've still run…. I tried… and failed every time…
"Well… that's enough about me… I just… I think about things a lot. What I could've done better. I was trapped, and I can't help thinking it was all on me for being trapped. Maybe I could've left, but…"
Felix stopped, simply running through more thoughts in his head.
Eclipse rolled onto his side again, losing himself in his own depressing thoughts once more.
Felix sighed and folded his hands in front of him.
"Sorry… I just…"
"It's not you.." responded Eclipse softly, It's just me… Always has been…..
"I don't know, I feel like I say things and set something off," Felix explained, "You're just as free to voice your problems and share your story, you know. If you want to."
"It's not your fault I'm like this.." said Eclipse again quietly.
"I'm not saying that. I just don't want you to feel worse than you already do," Felix replied.
Eclipse curled further in on himself, "It's not your fault.." he said softly.
"If you say so…" Felix trailed off, still not quite able to shake the feeling that some of it was, in fact, his fault.
(What's the plan? Throw in any action ahead, or character development stuff?)
(Have them run into some guards maybe?)
Eclipse stayed silent, trying not to get lost in thought as he stared at the walls of the cart.
(Okay, works for me)
Felix flopped over on his back again and stared up at the sky. Freedom wasn't so far. He just had to finish this journey.
Eclipse had dozed of in the back, his dark form curled up in the back o the wagon.
Felix had started to drift off again when he heard the drone of voices. He sat upright to see who was approaching. Probably just other travelers, but one could never be too careful. He reached for his bag to grab a weapon.
Eclipse didn't hear anything fast asleep in the back of the cart, exhausted from last night.
"Oy, there!" a voice called.
Felix sat back up in the front of the cart. There were three people, all on horses and in the distinctive guard uniforms.
At least there's only three…
"Hello!" Felix replied, trying to sound reasonably cheerful, "How goes it?"
Eclipse, luckily, stayed asleep, and luckily, his face and hair was hidden from the riders as they approached, otherwise he surely would've panicked.
Felix, knowing that Eclipse was hidden in the back, was able to relax a bit more and speak to the soldiers without worrying about them seeing the other.
"Actually, we're a search party. The prince has gone missing, you see, and we've been asked to speak to any travelers who may have seen him."
Felix's face took on a more worried expression. "Oh, so I heard. I know nothing of the matter, I've only heard rumors. I pray you see him back safely."
Another one of the guards, a young woman, peered in the back of the cart.
"Who's in the back over here?"
"Oh, him? That's just my brother, Leon. Took second watch last night and it wiped him out."
"May we speak to him and see what he knows?"
"Seems awfully rude, doesn't it?" Felix said with an edge, "I can assure you, he doesn't know any more than I do. We heard the news at the same time, and we've been by each others' side ever since."
Eclipse eventually came to, hearing voices, he realized he recognized one, one of the guards that particularly liked to have him whipped. He bit back a whimper, staying very very still, forcing himself to keep breathing as if her were still sleeping.
"Well, if he's no more than another commoner, then you wouldn't mind us seeing his face?" she prodded.
Felix gritted his teeth. "That's creepy. Why would you even do that to someone?"
"Well, if you have nothing to hide, lifting up the edge of his cloak won't hurt, will it?"
Felix shuddered at the thought. He might have to fight, and the soldiers were too close for him to engage how he'd previously wanted to.
Eclipse tensed even more at the prospect of them seeing his face, knowing his scars would be a dead giveaway to who he was and they'd be dead meat.
