”It sounds very nice.” She complimented, carefully picking up the runaway plate to dry it. ”Did your friend have words to go with it?”
”It sounds very nice.” She complimented, carefully picking up the runaway plate to dry it. ”Did your friend have words to go with it?”
He smiled slightly, and nodded. "Yeah, he did." He replied, humming a few more lines, then stopping and looking at her.
Jade rolled her eyes with a light chuckle. ”Can you share what they are with that tune?” she asked smirking slightly.
Killian chuckled, and nodded. He thought for a moment. "Yeah. It goes like this." He paused, then began to sing in a low, soft voice. "When the moon sets on us, when the sun loses it's shine, I'll see you again, my friend. When I'm buried and gone, when I'm dead and lost, will you still remember me?" The tune was gentle, lilting.
Jade thought the song was beautiful. Dark but hopeful. But what she was most impressed with was Killian’s singing voice. She didn't have words to describe it yet, but… ”Incredible. Your friend had a talent for music.” she made herself say. ”Thank you for the performance.”
He stopped, looking sidelong at her. "Thanks." He gave a small smile. "That wasn't the whole thing, but…" He sighed softly, setting another dish down on the counter. "It's rather fitting, I guess, that that's one of the last songs he ever wrote." He shrugged, keeping his attention on the sink.
Jade froze and stopped smiling. ”Oh, God. I am so sorry.” she apologized as she realized what he meant. I am such an idiot! He kept referring to his friend in past tense but you thought he just moved out. Stupid!
(i gtg to bed now. Good night!)
Killian looked over at her. "It isn't your fault." He replied, one corner of his mouth twitching in an almost smile. "You don't need to apologise. You didn't know." He looked back down at the dishes.
(Goodnight!)
Jade nodded, not trusting the right thing to come out of her mouth at the moment. Her mind was whirling with theories about what might have happened to his friend… if Killian blamed himself… if it even had anything to do with him. ”Still, I'm sorry for your loss. When did he… if you don't mind me asking.”
"When did he die?" He sighed. "About eight months ago." He shrugged a little, setting another wet, clean dish down. We had a funeral. After how he died…no one wanted to see that body. No one wanted to see what had happened.
Jade bit her tongue to keep from asking more questions right now, even though she had a lot she wanted to ask. She didn't want to seem insensitive. She set aside the now dry plate and picked up the next one.
Killian let out a soft breath, looking up at the ceiling for a moment, then returned his attention to the sink. "That killed the mood. I'm sorry." he said, brushing a bit of hair out of his face, and leaving behind a wet, soapy smear on his face.
”No, I’m sorry I brought it up. I may not have known but…” Jade apologized turning to look at him before giggling softly. ”I… uh… Sorry. You got something on your face.” she smiled lightly.
Killian shook his head. "It's fine." He raised an eyebrow. "What do I have on my face?" He asked, looking at her and wrinkling his nose.
Jade gave a light giggle at his expression and set down the plate. ”Here. Let me get it. It's just a bit of soap.” she offered, reaching towards his face with both her hands and the cloth.
He pulled his head back, looking at her, then sighed and let her wipe it off. "Fine." he replied, feigning grumpiness. He gave her a slightly mischievous smirk.
Jade laughed again and gently wiped the soapy smear off his face. ”Sorry. I didn't mean to ”mom” you. It just made more sense for me to use the towel then let you try to get it with your wet hands.” she explained a little embarrassed but still smiling.
Killian laughed softly, shaking his head. "It's fine. I don't mind being "mom"ed." he replied with a shrug. "But yeah, thanks for getting that. That would have been embarrassing if it had stayed there." he chuckled, smiling a little.
”Even by someone a bit younger than you?” She asked raising a brow teasingly. She wasn't about to tell him her age just yet, though she was much more comfortable being with him than she had thought possible.
"Oh? And how nuch younger would that be?" He asked with a teasing glint in his eyes. Turning back to the sink to continue working on the dishes, he flicked water at her playfully.
She gave a light playful shriek as the water hit her. ”As if I’ll tell you!” Jade smirked at him for a moment before plunging her hand in the water and splashing him.
He laughed, letting out a small shout as the water splashed over his shirt. "Hey! Fine, I'll guess." He looked over at her, eyes raking over her for a long moment. "Hm…sixteen." he guessed teasingly.
Jade laughed. ”I should be flattered but: Wrong! I can act that age sometimes but I’m older than that.”
"20." He replied with a grin, flicking water at her again, then starting to work on the dishes. He set another wet dish on the counter.
Jade smirked and dried off the water he splashed at her before picking up the plate to resume her earlier chore. ”Only if you don't think that's too inexperienced to be a hero. And don't forget I know your age.”
