"That's stupid. It should be something fun, not something that prevents people from hanging out." She crossed her arms. "Well, guess what. Today I'm a rule breaker." And she leaned her head on Jay's shoulder. "Tradition breaking for the win!" she whisper yelled, raising her fist in the air.
He blushed bright red, unable to look at her. Pretty girl is leaning on you, don't screw this up! "You remind me so much of my sister it's uncanny."
"Really? How so?" she asked, turning so she was facing him while still leaning on his arm.
"You're quiet until something grinds your gears. Then you're bold and willing to stand up to anyone. I think Lydia would like you."
She smiled at him, her cheeks heating up. "Yeah, I guess so." She buried her face in the side of his jacket, just sitting there until it was time for the next activity.
He wrapped an arm around her waist, keeping her close and hoping she couldn't hear his ever increasing heart rate.
Angel had opened her mouth to ask him something, but the coach announced it was time to move on. Everyone was packing up their things and changing back into their clothes.
He quickly let go of her, grabbing his bag and pulling himself to his feet, holding out a hand to help her up.
She took his hand and then left to get changed. When she came back she slung her bag over her shoulder and placed her hand in his again. She looked away so he hopefully wouldn't see her blushing as they walked.
(You can choose the next activity.)
Next up was survival skills, learning how to make a fire and stuff. Jay had gone camping plenty of times so he knew what he was doing. In fact, he was the first person to succeed in bringing a spark to life.
Angel had no idea what she was doing. She had never handled a lighter, or even a match. She did manage to set up her tent though, with the help of the instructions of course.
The counselor actually commended Jay on his skills, much to his embarrassment. He hated being in the spotlight, he honestly couldn't stand it. But he thanked her anyways, laughing it off.
"Jay. Jay. Jaaaaaaay." Angel whispered. "I need help." 'Course he didn't hear her, so what did she do to get his attention? She threw a pebble at his foot, of course!
When the pebble landed on his foot, he looked over at her, a confused eyebrow raised and an amused smile on his lips. "What? And why did you throw a pebble at me?"
She cupped her hands over her mouth and loudly whispered, "I don't know how to start a fire." Please don't laugh. Please don't laugh. Please don't laugh.
He kneeled down next to her with a smile. "Well, it can be pretty difficult to start so I don't blame you. Here, let me show you." He took her through the steps, guiding her slowly.
When the they finally start a fire, she hugs him enthusiastically. "Thank you so much! I'll have to remember that." All of a sudden she let go of Jay and pounced on the ground. She sat there for a minute, just staring, then held up her find to him. "I caught a lizard!"
He couldn't help but laugh. "Good job, I guess. You brightened up pretty quickly, didn't you?"
"Yep!" She sat the lizard on his head. "Imma name 'em Skylar! It's a unisex name, so I don't have to change it when I find out what they are. My name's also unisex!" she stated proudly.
(Night!)
He rolled his eyes with a smile. "Whatever you say, Angel." She reminds me so much of Lydia. God I miss her…
Before they knew it, they were heading back to the cafeteria for dinner. "Ugh, the day's almost over! I wish we had more time." Angel complained. After they ate they would have to head back to they're cabins. She'd be lying if she said she didn't want to spend more time with him.
He climbed up into his bunk, he always picked the top bunk since he loved being up high, and laid down to stare at the ceiling. He listened to the loud chatter of the rowdy group of boys around him, trying to block them out.
Angel had picked a top bunk in the back of the room, near a window with pitch black curtains. She laid under the covers and snuggled up to her stuffed unicorn that she brought. She couldn't wait for tomorrow to come.
Jay had to stay up later than most so his medicine could kick in otherwise he'd never get any sleep. Jay had to take sleeping pills on the regular. Damn insomnia.
