Nikki looked next to Macy. "Oh, hi!" she said to Thomas. "Do you wanna come canoeing with us?"
Otis walked by himself, because he was too terribly shy to go up to the three, but he hated being alone.
Nikki looked next to Macy. "Oh, hi!" she said to Thomas. "Do you wanna come canoeing with us?"
Otis walked by himself, because he was too terribly shy to go up to the three, but he hated being alone.
"Sure!" He turned to Otis. "You should come too dude." He told him, smiling.
Macy stuck close to Thomas as they walked.
Otis smiled. He slowly went up next to Nikki, and eventually, they arrived at canoes. Jill, the canoeing leader, explained the rules. "Hey guys. I'm Jill. So, this is canoeing. We have some rules. You need to wear a life vest, go upstream, and come back when we yell for you. Any questions? Oh, there can only be 3 or 4 people in the canoe at a time." Jill waited for questions from the two cabins.
(Are you okay? Your username…)
Macy and Thomas nodded and followed her instructions. They climbed into a canoe and Macy wobbled uncertainly. "You sure these things don't tip over?"
(i'm fine…
depression just sucks)
Nikki laughed as she and Otis got into the boat. "Yes, I'm sure. Who are the strongest people here?"
Nikki looked behind her as Jill reminded them to paddle upstream. Otis looked over at the river and breathed deeply. The current went downstream and was fairly strong.
(Oh I’m sorry..it does..)
“Not me. But Thomas is pretty strong.” She said, keeping her hands on either side of the canoe.
"Okay. Um…who here is pretty confident in their canoeing abilities?" Nikki asked. "And, Thomas? Do you wanna be in the front or the back?"
Otis quietly sighed and got in the boat.
“I am.” Thomas said. “And I’ll get in the back.” He said, climbing into the canoe.
"Okay. Macy, you can sit anywhere in the middle. Otis? Can you take the front?"
Otis sat in the front and propelled off.
(lets pretend that they put life jackets on lol)
(Lol Okay)
Macy squeaked a little and gripped the canoe tight as they paddled.
The current was too strong, even for the boys. The current pulled them downstream. Otis was panicking inside, but kept his cool long enough to grab onto a strong branch as the girls (im assuming :) screamed for help. The current was horribly strong. Nikki took Macy's hand and squeezed it. None of them knew what to do. The path back to camp was filled of thorns, and the current was too strong and the water too cold to get in. Otis' arms were wrapped around the branch, tears pooling up in his emerald green eyes.
(I just had to throw in my camp experience :)
(Ooof)
“Ohmygod we’re going to die!!!” Macy cried, holding onto Nikki’s hand very tightly. Thomas took a deep breath and squeezed Macy’s shoulder. “It’ll be fine, the currents sure to calm down soon right?..”
Nikki looked unsure. "I don't know. The current's been really strong because of some issue, I don't know." she said. Otis was glad he was in front. He was holding onto a branch with all of his might, silently crying his heart out, his face turning pink from the tears.
“We could always try swimming to shore and waiting it out?” Thomas suggested, receiving a sob from Macy.
"It'd be possible. We wouldn't have to swim either. We could just step out. But the problem is, the current won't go down. It's really cold where the river starts, and a lot of snow had melted. And the problem is, what would we do with the boat? How would we get back to camp?" Nikki asked. "Until then, Otis has the branch. Speaking of which, he's been quiet. Otis? Hello?" Nikki asked.
Otis didn't respond. He was 14 years old, he shouldn't be crying like a baby, he thought.
Thomas glanced up at him. “Otis? You okay?” He asked while Macy continued to hyperventilate.
Nikki was silent. "Okay. Me and Macy will get out and find our way back to camp. You guys stay in the boat. Don't. Move." Nikki said, carefully getting out of the boat and offering a hand to Macy.
Otis gripped onto the branch with all of his might, tears now streaming down his cheeks. He breathed rapidly, hating to admit how horribly scared and anxious he was.
Macy took her hand and helped herself up, wobbling a little.
Thomas scooted forward a bit. “I can help with holding on if you like.” He offered.
Finally, Macy and Nikki were safe on the shore. Nikki looked around. "This way. We'll go get the counselors." she said, partly to Macy and partly to the boys in the canoe. She began walking. "Macy, we're going to have to go through thorns. A lot of them. It's gonna take a little while." Nikki said.
Otis continued to grip the tree, now in the first mild stage of an anxiety attack. He hyperventilated for a little bit, trying to force himself not to let the anxiety get worse. He was now making a little bit of noise. "Help…" he said to himself in a whisper, not really to anyone.
Macy whimpered a little but nodded, following Nikki.
Thomas heard him and grabbed the branch so Otis could let go. He recognized the signs of his anxiety attack and set a hand on his shoulder, having done this with Macy many times before. "Sit up. Breath deeply. Tilt your head back towards the sky and focus on that."
Nikki made her way through the branches, holding Macy's hand and leading her. Finally, they came to a log after 2 minutes of walking, though it seemed like forever. "Sit." Nikki ordered Macy.
Otis turned his head away. "I'm fine." he said, wiping tears from his eyes. He did focus on the lower part of the sky, and he hated to admit that it helped. He held back onto the tree and accidentally looked at the water, terrified. "I'm fine. It's okay." he said, trying to convince Thomas and himself that everything was OK.
Macy did as she said quietly, wiping at her eyes.
"That's right. You'll be fine..just keep looking at the sky." Thomas said calmly.
Nikki put an arm around Macy.
