Otis blushed. "Th-thank you…" he said, before continuing to write.
Annika kept drawing.
Otis blushed. "Th-thank you…" he said, before continuing to write.
Annika kept drawing.
"No problem." Thomas replied, sighing and going back to his book.
Macy continued drawing happily.
Everyone continued with cabin life until the announcement came from the counselors that it was time for dinner. Otis grabbed his Cubs baseball hat and sat on the porch, waiting for the rest of the cabin.
Nikki put down her sketchbook and sat on her cabin's porch.
Thomas climbed down from his bunk and went out to the porch, leaning against the wall.
Macy put down her things and went outside with Nikki.
The cabins headed off to the dining hall. Nikki sat with her cabin, and Otis went with his. Nikki glanced at a sign on the bulletin board. "Please sit with your own cabin at meals" it read.
(Tis okay)
Macy slid into a seat near the other people in her cabin and sat quietly.
Thomas entered the dining hall and glanced around, his eyes falling on Macy, then the sign. He sighed and sat down with his cabin.
Annika made herself a taco and began to eat it.
Otis simply put the toppings on his plate.
Macy got some food and sat back down, smiling at Thomas from across the room as he got his food as well.
Supper was over. The campers went back to their cabins to get ready for swimming. Otis put on a white t shirt and red trunks, and Nikki put on a blue tankini with a t-shirt over it. She grabbed her towel and glanced at the clock. There were 10 minutes until swimming, so Nikki pulled her guitar out from under her bed and began playing a calming song without vocals.
Macy walked into the cabin and glanced around. “Do we have to swim?” She asked Nikki.
Thomas changed into his swimming stuff and grabbed a towel, waiting.
Nikki thought about Macy's question. "I guess not. But otherwise, you won't be able to swim all week, becasue today's the swim test. Why?"
Otis sat on the porch. He gave a small smile after hearing Nikki play a song on her guitar. Otis had brought his guitar, but it was still shoved under the bed.
“I hate the water..terrifies me..” She mumbled.
Thomas walked out onto the porch and leaned against the railing, thinking about the fact the Macy hated swimming.
"Oh. That stinks." Nikki said.
The cabins all went to the swimming pool. Nikki walked over to Macy. "Are you going to take the swimming test?" she asked, already knowing the answer.
Otis got in line for the swimming test, reading the sign that said that you had to swim across the short end of the pool and tread water for 10 seconds. If you didn't do that properly, or didn't take the test at all, you couldn't swim in the deep end.
"No.." She replied, sitting down and watching the others. Thomas noticed her and walked over to her. "You aren't taking it?" He asked. Macy shook her head. "You knew I wouldn't."
Otis took the test and passed. He sat on the edge of the pool until everyone was finished.
Nikki finished and sat with Otis.
Thomas finished and walked over to Macy, shaking his hair out and getting water all over her. She scowled up at him but scooted over to he could sit next to her.
They could all get into the pool. Otis slid in gently next to Nikki.
Thomas got up and went into the pool, waving goodbye at Macy as he disappeared under the water.
Annika sighed. She got up and out of the water, dried herself with her towel, and sat down on a chair next to Macy. "Sup." she said, super casually.
Otis shyly smiled at Thomas, who was now next to him in the water. Otis looked behind him and smiled at two little girls behind the fence, walking with their day camp group. The girls waved with adorable toothless smiles.
"Hi." Macy smiled at her. "How's the water?"
Thomas grinned back and ducked under the water. "This feels amazing." He smiled as he came back up, shaking his hair around.
"Not bad. It's fairly warm, actually." Nikki said. "How's the land?"
Otis smiled as Thomas flung water on him. "Yep."
Macy laughed a little. "Ah..earthy.."
"How long have you been here for?" Thomas asked Otis.
Nikki smiled. Then, she fidgeted a little, as if she didn't want to ask her next question. "Um…is there a reason that you don't like the water?" she asked.
Otis thought for a little bit. "Four years."
"It just…scares me..I guess.." She trailed off.
"Whoa, that's a long time. How old are you?"
"Oh." Nikki said, hating to ask for reason. "Is there something that triggered that?" she asked, gently putting an arm around Macy.
"Fourteen." Otis said.
