“Do you think the boys are okay?” She asked quietly.
“No. Let’s not fight.” Thomas said.
“Do you think the boys are okay?” She asked quietly.
“No. Let’s not fight.” Thomas said.
Nikki sighed. “I hope so…”
Otis sighed. “Fine. Do what you want. But I’m not getting in the boat.” he said with a calm voice. He then stopped. “Thomas…we have bigger problems…” He pointed to a crocodile who was minding it’s own business a little bit upstream.
(dun dun DUUUUN)
(uh Oh)
"Me too…" She said quietly.
"Uhhh that's not good. Do you think we could get to land?"
Nikki hugged Macy as she said, “They should be back by now.”
Otis backed himself up against the tip of the front of the canoe. He said quietly, “Thomas. Get. In. The. Boat. NOW.”
"They should be.." Macy agreed worriedly.
On an instinct, Thomas grabbed Otis and put him in the boat as he climbed in himself.
Nikki hopped off of the bench and looked down the river. Her eyes widened. "Macy…don’t look.”
Silent tears streamed down Otis’ eyes as the crocodile approached. The tears blurred his vision. He simply mouthed the words, “Help.”, as he couldn’t hardly speak.
Thank goodness Nikki was a quick thinker. She glanced down at her shoes, too lightweight. She side-eyed Macy and ran over to her, grabbing the right shoe off of her friend. Nikki aimed and hurled the shoe, hitting the crocodile on the back. It turned around and swam towards the shore, where the shoe came from. It darted towards the shore, and the bank was just barely too big for it to climb up on. Nikki breathed rapidly. Thank goodness the croc swam away. Otis wiped tears from his eyes just in time to hear, “Otis, get the shoe!” from Jill, who was on the shore back at the canoe dock with Nikki, Macy, and the rest of the campers and counselors. Otis reached out and grabbed the shoe. “Thank you, Thomas.” he said quietly.
"Sorry, Mace." Nikki said.
Macy gasped and ran towards Thomas as he climbed back onto shore, wrapping her arms around him and hugging him tightly. "Ohgodohgod are you okay?" She asked, ignoring the fact that she only had one shoe on. Thomas nodded and glanced back over at Otis. "No problem."
Otis pulled the boat back onto shore and tossed the shoe to Macy. Nikki ran to him and grasped him in a huge hug. She felt Otis’ intense shivers and the fact that he was sopping wet. “Otis, you need a towel.” Otis shook his head. “No. I’m fine. Give one to Thomas.” Nikki looked concerned, but she handed a towel to Thomas. She put an arm around Otis. “I hoped you were OK. A-Are you okay?” Otis nodded. Nikki handed Otis the last towel, but he handed it back to her. “You look cold.” he said. “Take it.” Nikki rolled her eyes. “Have you even seen yourself?” Otis nodded. “They need towels more than I do.”
"Otis. Take the towel." Thomas said, handing it back to him as Macy handed Thomas hers. "Thanks Mace. What happened? You're soaking wet." He asked, looking down at her concernedly. "I fell in." She said quietly, not meeting his eyes.
Otis had learned better than to argue with Thomas. “Thanks.” Jill (the canoe instructor) said to the group, “I’m going to call Courtney and Kaleb, the camp directors, and tell them to close off the canoes.” Nikki nodded. “Good idea.” The cabins headed up to the main camp, everyone else in the cabins staying quiet about the canoeing incident. Everyone was fairly sour that they couldn’t do the canoes. Nikki and Otis drifted towards Thomas and Macy. “That was some adventure we both had, huh? How was you two boys’ little adventure?” Nikki asked with a slightly joking smile.
(sorry, I went a little fast :)
(its okay :)
Thomas sighed, smiling a bit. "Interesting, wasn't it?" He glanced over at Otis, his arm still around Macy.
Otis looked at the ground and slowly nodded.
"What did you guys do?" Nikki asked, mainly to Thomas.
"Uh…just kinda, pushed the canoe along."
"So, um…Macy and I had quite the adventure." Nikki said, noticing that Otis was uncomfortable.
“Yeah we did, didn’t we…” She sighed.
Otis noticed (rhymes ;) for the first time that Nikki had a scratch on her face. "A-are you okay?"
Nikki looked confused. "What? Oh, yeah I'm fine."
(lol)
Macy looked up at Nikki. "I can get something for you if you want, it looks kinda bad."
"Nah, I'm good. Free time's soon, so if I wanted anything, I could go get it. Thanks, though." Nikki said with a smile.
"No problem.." Macy said quietly as silence fell between the four.
The four had walked all the way back up to the main camp. "Let's go get changed and then meet at the Cafe." Nikki said as they headed to their different cabins. (The cafe is basically buying stuff. It aint a real cafe, just a room. with chairs i guess :)
Thomas and Macy walked back to their own cabins and got changed. Macy sat down, waiting for Nikki.
Nikki didn’t change her clothes, instead, she simply switched her socks and went outside to sit with Macy.
Otis put on a gray t-shirt with Cabela’s written on it in faded white letters. He wore some dark blue jeans, and didn’t bother to take off his Cub’s hat. He sat on the porch with Thomas.
Nikki walked with Macy to the Cafe.
Macy followed Nikki to the cafe, seeing Thomas and Otis there as well.
Nikki placed a dollar bill on the counter. "Ten Tootsie rolls, please." The 18 year old boy at the register handed Nikki her purchase and took the money. "Thanks, Sam." Nikki said. She handed two Tootsie rolls to each of the four, keeping the extra two in her pocket. "My treat."
"Thanks." Macy smiled at her and Thomas did as well, taking the candy. "This tastes so good right now." She said gratefully.
