He nodded, running his fingers through his now extremely messy hair. “Let me take over, you need to sleep.” He clearly wouldn’t take no for an answer.
He nodded, running his fingers through his now extremely messy hair. “Let me take over, you need to sleep.” He clearly wouldn’t take no for an answer.
Lachy, on the other hand, shook his head stubbornly, "No, it's fine, I'll stay up for a while longer."
“No. You’re going to sleep. You need to rest or we won’t make it as far as we need tomorrow.” He crossed his arm, staring at Lachy.
He opened his mouth to reply, but didn't really want to get into an argument right now, especially with the look he was being given, "Fine. I'll rest."
Automatically he got way less hostile. “Thanks..and if you can’t sleep let me know okay?” He said all of this very gently as if his hostility before had never happened.
He simply nodded, curling up on the ground and closing his eyes. Aidan's mood swings were starting to confuse and freak him out a little.
Aidan watched him for a few minutes before shaking his head quickly and looking away. He still couldn’t figure out why Lachy was so different for him compared to other people. He actually was starting to like being around him.
Lachy slept peacefully for about an hour. Then he began to stir, but not in a good way. His fingers twitched and there was a flicker of something there, something dark that made him whimper in his sleep.
Aidan looked over at Lachy, worry etching itself into his features. “Lachy?” He asked softly, even as he knew the other boy most likely wouldn’t be able to hear him.
Lachy didn’t reply. He curled further in on himself, that dark, swirl around his fingers growing and making him more and more distressed.
He moved over to Lachy’s side and then wasn’t exactly sure what to do. After a few seconds of hesitation he gently shook Lachy’s shoulder. “Lachy you gotta wake up.”
Even with the shaking Lachy didn’t wake up at first. He seemed to become more distressed with the light shaking.
Noticing this, Aidan stopped. He was now fairly stressed out, trying to figure out what to do. He swallowed the growing nervousness in his throat. “Lachy?” He was louder this time, moving closer to Lachy’s ear as well. “Come on, you need to wake up now.”
It was that that finally woke up him. Lachy sat up with a start, the darkness around his fingertips fading away into the black abyss of the night. It was clear he was pretty shook up, upset and distressed.
Aidan backed away from him quickly, knowing Lachy might need space and not want Aidan super close to him. “You okay?” He asked quickly, his eyes filled with concern. Having seen how Lachy had been acting, he assumed the answer was no. It had seemed like a pretty bad nightmare.
Lachy opened his mouth, stuttering for a moment before he simple shook his head. No, no he wasn't okay. Quite frankly if he had to explain his emotions in one word? Frightened would be the response.
“Would it be best if I just stayed over here?” He asked, back to that gentle tone from earlier. Apparently under all his layers of pretending to be a huge jerk, he did have a caring, nurturing side to him.
"I-" He looked down at his hands. Shaking, he was shaking. He closed his hands into fits, keeping his gaze down cast, "I don't- I don't know.."
“Okay. Just know that I’m here for you. If you need me to help in any way.” He said gently, maintaining eye contact with him and keeping his distance.
He nodded, bringing his knees to his chest. Whatever had occurred, it had fucked him up real bad. He shifted uncomfortably, tugging at his shirt to hide his hands.
Aidan sat there, watching Lachy cautiously. He felt like he should be doing more to help but he didn’t know if Lachy wanted that or needed that right now.
"Can- Can you make a- a fire… or something? Please?" Lachy asked after a few minutes of silence. The darkness seemed constricting, like a snake wrapping around its prey. He needed something light.
“Sure.” He said after thinking about it for a second. He set one of his hands aflame after a moment of concentration. The fire seemed less aggressive than normal, the flames dancing lazily across his palm. He kept the fire there, it generated less smoke that way.
He watched the flame, shoulders relaxing slightly at the new found light. The fire didn't seem as scary when it was lazily flickering in Aidan's palm.
Something Aidan had also discovered was how hot and how aggressive the flames were all depended on his mood. So now that he was calm, they were no real threat. It almost felt like he had a comfy sweater on his hand instead of fire.
