(sure, around early afternoon?)
(That’s fine, yeah!)
Sebastian tightened a threadbare scarf around his neck, the bitter wind nipping at his nose and cheeks, which were flushed from the cols. he found himself drifting towards the coffee shop he'd seen Devon at, on a lunch break from work and craving a dark chocolate mocha.
Devon sighed as she stepped out into the bitter cold. Her thin jacket didn’t do much against the wind, but it was all she had… And she couldn’t afford a new one, either. Good coats were just too expensive.
A low whistle caused her breath to catch in her throat, and she walked a little faster, her head ducking down as she shoved her hands further into her pockets. The man was persistent, though, and continued to shout a string of words at her that caused her hands to tremble where they were hidden.
Sebastian caught sight of a familiar figure up ahead, pushing open the doors of the coffee shop and beginning her walk down the street. Devon. But she appeared to be…. panicked? He paused, frowning, and that's when the noises hit his ears.
Oh.
The man steadily made his way closer, and Devon visibly tensed the closer he got. His smirk would be infuriating if she wasn't as deathly terrified as she was. And his heavy cologne mixed with the scent of alcohol was a sickening smell.
"Wha's a pretty lady like yourself doin' out here all 'lone, huh?" he slurred, and Devon flinched away from him. He chuckled and reached for her, causing her breath to catch as she tried to continue walking. "Aw, c'mon, girl… I'm not gonna hurt ya…"
(People like that sicken me to no end.)
(People like that sicken me to no end.)
(Ugh. Ikr?)
(Definitely. :/ Sexual predators, whether male or female, disgust me.)
(Same here)
Sebastian hadn’t realized that he was moving until he had fallen into step between Devon and the man, successfully separating them. “Devon, hey!” he greeted with extremely forced cheerfulness.
Sebastian? What is he…
“O-oh… Um, hey— hey, Sebastian,” Devon stuttered, her voice shaking almost as much as her hands.
The drunkard stumbled and gave the new man a confused look. Who was this guy? And what was he doing?
Sebastian made sure that he was still between Devon and the stranger, completely ignoring the latter. “Hey. How’re you?” He began to steer her back in the general direction of the cafe, trying to shake her pursuer.
The guy just stared after them, shocked. He just swept in and took her away… What in the world?
Devon mumbled something along the lines of, “I’m okay,” and allowed Sebastian to lead her away. Why was he helping her? How had he known what was going on? He wasn’t stalking her, was he…?
(lol)
Sebastian pushed open the door of the café, then turned to glance over his shoulder to check that the stranger hadn't followed.
(I thought that and immediately had to add it. Lol.)
Devon sighed as she stepped into the familiar atmosphere. Her coworkers hadn’t noticed her yet, so she was safe from their questioning. Sebastian, on the other hand, was due to ask questions. After all, he’d just witnessed her panicking over something so seemingly stupid as being flirted with.
(lmao)
Sebastian cast one more anxious glance to the street outside and turned his attention to Devon. Suddenly, though, he had no idea what to say.
Devon was still shaking slightly as she blankly glanced around the room. Maybe she should go… She needed to get food, anyway, and scones weren’t a very good lunch. But what if that guy came after her again?
"Are—Are you okay?" he asked finally, not knowing what to do or say.
“I’m— I’m fine,” Devon stuttered, obviously lying as her eyes flickered around the room. She hugged herself tightly and avoided meeting anyone’s gaze.
Sebastian exhaled slowly, casting his eyes down to the floor. "Want me to buy you a coffee?"
Devon shook her head and finally glanced back over at him. “No, thank you. I get free drinks…”
"Alright," he sighed, running a hand through his hair. "Anything else you need?"
"Just don't let him come back," Devon said, her voice shaking again as she moves toward an empty seat and finally sat down.
"Of course not," he promised, unsure whether or not to follow her. Had he overstepped somehow?
Devon sighed and rested her head on the table. She didn’t like other people seeing her this way, but she was very grateful that he had helped her.
“Thank you,” she murmured, her head still on the smooth surface in front of her.
