(Can I just give a small tip?)
(Can I just give a small tip?)
(Yeah sure!)
(It’s actually for Autumn. See, kids don’t really skip verbs, or anything in particular. I noticed this early, too, but I dubbed it as a mistake. So really, Layla wouldn’t say ‘I okay.’ She’d say, ‘I am okay.’ Kids can use wrong tenses or create words that don’t exist, but they don’t omit words.)
(Ah, yeah. Sorry. I did know that, but it just flew over my head I suppose.)
Devon set Layla down, and she ran into the living room with her friend. Her mother chuckled and watched them hurry away.
“I’ve got hot cocoa ready in the kitchen if you want it,” she offered, turning back to Sebastian.
(It’s all right~ I sort of figured, but I still wanted to mention.)
“Oh thanks,” he answered, a smile appearing on his lips. “That’s really nice of ou.”
Devon smiled back and nodded. “You’re welcome. It was no trouble. I’ve got mini marshmallows if you want some.”
“That… would be great. Thank you.” Sebastian followed Devon into the kitchen, rubbing at a sizeable bruise on the back of his head.
“Sure,” Devon said softly as she walked into the kitchen. She opened a cupboard and pulled it a container of mini marshmallows, then walked back to Sebastian and handed it to him. “You can outbon as many as you’d like.”
Sebastian gladly accepted the tin, tugging at the hair on the back of his head with his free hand. “Are you having any?”
“Yeah, I’ve got some already,” Devon said as she sat down at the island and picked up the mug she’d been drinking from earlier.
Sebastian nodded, plopping a few marshmallows into his drink and raising it to his lips.
In the background, Ella giggled uncontrollably, rolling around on the floor.
Devon glanced in the direction of the living room with a fond smile. The sound of kids’ laughter was one of her favorite things in the world, and she just loved it more and more as she got to watch her daughter grow up.
“Layla’s adorable,” Sebastian told her with a tiny smile, taking a sip of his cocoa.
Devon looked backnover at Sebastian, the fondness still in her smile. “She is. She can be a goof, though. Ella’s really cute, too.”
His smile softened slightly. Running a hand through his hair, he momentarily averted his eyes. “Thank you. She… She takes after her mother more than she takes after me.”
“Oh… I hope Layla takes more after me. And I’m glad she looks like me,” Devon mused quietly, turning her attention to the mug in her hands.
Sebastian nodded, the comment raising a question in him that he quickly silenced. “She looks like a little carbon copy of you.. it’s really cute, actually.”
Devon chuckled softly and smiled over at him. “I’ll take that as a compliment. So thank you.”
"You're welcome, I guess." He plopped a few more marshmallows into his drink. "If you don't mind me asking, where does her name come from?"
Devon hummed as she thought back to naming her daughter. “Well, ‘Layla’ means ‘night’ in Arabic. And the night has always been beautiful to me, with the stars shining in the sky… Her middle name, Shiloh, means ‘tranquil’ in Hebrew. It’s just a reminder to me… So she’s my peaceful night…”
A soft smile tugged at Sebastian's lips. "That's…. really nice, actually. Very meaningful. And they're both beautiful names—unique, too."
(I totally didn’t look those names and their meanings up before I even made this RP… Not at all…)
“Thank you,” Devon said softly, suddenly feeling rather embarrassed. That was a rather unexpected blob of explainations that she never really told anyone about… “What about Ella? Where does her name come from?”
(Lol
I’m so sorry I thought I’d replied to this)
Sebastian’s smile faltered, his warm skin paling considerably. He swallowed hard and averted his eyes, taking a moment to calm himself before answering.
“She… She’s named after her mother. Who was named Elle.”
(Lol. Dw about it.)
Devon blinked, surprised at his reaction. Why would that be so… hard to think about? Unless… There were two options, really. And she didn't really want to think about either of them. Not yet. Afterall, she didn't know the whole story.
"Oh… I see," she said softly, glancing away again.
