(I know, sorry… Um… We could skip? Maybe Devon just gets up and walks away?)
(oof sure, when should we skip to?
also, not it)
(Urgh… Um… Maybe a month or so after? Another play date? They’ve started warming up to each other?)
Sure, what should they do? Just chat?)
(That sounds fine! Devon’s place again, then… It’s, what, December/January?)
Oh I thought it was November
Whoops
(It might have been, but if it’s a month later, then it’ll be about December.)
oh yeah whoops)
(XD)
Devon sat down at the island with a cup of hot cocoa in her hands and an extra one on the counter. Sebastian was coming over with Ella for a play date, and Devon would be lying if she said she wasn’t looking forward to it. It was nice having someone to talk to sometimes.
Sebastian took the elevator up, setting a squirming Layla down so he wouldn't drop her. It was admittedly nice, having a way to interact with someone his age, especially someone in a somewhat similar situation as him, considering the fact that they were both single parents. As soon as the elevator doors opened, however, Layla dashed out, surprisingly quick for someone of her size and age. Before he could recover his wits and catch up, she had stopped in front of the door she remembered to be Devon's and was squealing loudly to get its residents' attention.
(You used the wrong kid again. Lol.)
Devon glanced up at the sound of a kid squealing near her door, and Layla immed ran over. The little girl laughed and shouted at Ella through the wooden surface, patting on the door with her hands.
“Layla, honey, come back from there,” the young mom told her daughter as she stood and made her way over. She scooted the little girl away and opened her door, smiling down at the younger girl. “Hi, Ella! Where’s your daddy?”
(Rip
Sorry)
Sebastian ran forward, nearly stumbling in his haste. “Sorry, sorry!” he apologized profusely, scooping his daughter up. “She ran out of the elevator—sorry.”
Devon glanced up at Sebastian as he ran up, amusement glittering in her eyes. She smiled as she stepped out of the way so he could come into her apartment.
"Don't worry about it. I'm just glad she was at my door and not someone else's," she said, laughter tinting her voice.
“Tell me about it,” he chuckled, sheepishness shadowing his tone. In his arms, Ella wriggled desperately, trying to get down as they entered the apartment.
Devon gently closed the door behind them, and Layla immediately latched into Sebastian’s leg.
“Layla, let go of Sebastian. You’re going to make him fall,” Devon said softly.
Layla grinned up at Sebastian, greeting him and his daughter with the shortened versions of their names. “El! El! Bahstin! El!”
Sebastian stumbled due to the extra weight on his leg, staggering to the side. He would have caught himself had Ella not almost slipped from his grip, still squirming with a violent passion, and soon found himself on his back, holding Ella above his chest so she wouldn’t get hurt.
Devon coughed, covering her mouth to keep from laughing. It danced in her eyes, though, obviously there.
“I’m so sorry. Are you okay?” she asked, picking up a shocked Layla.
Sebastian groaned, setting Ella down on his chest before rubbing his face. After a moment, he rolled to his feet. “Sorry…”
“Are you all right?” Devon repeated her question, ruffling Layla’s hair as she looked over at Sebastian, slightly more worried now that her initial surprise had worn off.
“My back will recover,” Sebastian answered, amusement at his accident leaking into his voice. “My pride may not.”
Devon chuckled softly and glanced over at Layla before her attention returned to him. “I’m sorry about that. Layla really doesn’t understand that she can’t do that… But maybe she’s learned her lesson this time, hm?” she said, booping her daughter on the nose.
“Maybe,” he agreed, checking first that Ella was intact, then turning to the other child. “Are you okay? Did I hurt you?”
Layla giggled and shook her head. “Nope! I okay, Bahstin!”
Devon chuckled softly at her daughter. “Looks like she’s recovered from the shock. Is Ella okay?”
Ella squealed loudly in the affirmative, causing her father to wince a little. “Alright, El, go play with your friend,” he told her, nudging her lightly.
