"I have to get up and go to work," she grumbled, finally rolling out of bed. She didn't change just yet, instead heading out of her room and going downstairs for breakfast.
He poked his head out of his room and followed after a few seconds, still wearing the same clothes from yesterday. "So, are you dropping me on someone else for the day? Or dragging me with you?"
"You lost freedom privileges, so you're not leaving my sights." She grabbed two bowls and brought out two different kinds of cereal, then turned to him. "Lucky Charms or Froot Loops?"
"I'll have you know I could have easily ran last night."
He considered her question for a moment, "and lucky charms. So basically you're watching me for how long? Untill I give you answers or untill I die?" He made his way over to the counter and leaned against it.
"I'm watching you until your parents give Rawling what he wants." She poured him a bowl of lucky charms, added milk, grabbed a spoon, and slid it over to him. "And yes, you could have ran, but has it ever occurred to you that my windows are always unlocked and none of the doors in here can lock from the outside?" She flicked her eyes up to his, daring him to pick up the small piece of her past that she sprinkled before him.
Karkota narrowed his eyes at her, "parent. Not two, one." He didn't like the idea of his mother being grouped in with his father. His mother didn't know what kinda bussnes his father was in, but if she had, she'd have never married the man.
He took the bowl, nodded a small thanks and took a few bites before he realised what she'd said. But Karkota was dense, so his response was, "you're just begging for someone to break in. Aren't you?"
She sighed and rolled her eyes. "I also said I wouldn't lock you in a closet. Not that I could anyway." She fixed herself a bowl of cereal, then started eating. Why did she care if he realized this small tidbit? Maybe so that he would realize how much she hated this hostage situation as much as he did. Maybe it would make it less likely for him to run.
Maybe she just wanted someone to understand her.
Maybe.
"you went and got drunk, So you really couldn't have locked me anywhere." He ate a few more spoonfuls, already almost done with his bowl by the time it clicked for him. He looked up at her, his face softening. "Did they?" He stopped his question short, not completely sure he wanted to finish it.
She shook her head, averting her eyes from him. "No. Rawling actually saved my life. But the foster care system isn't so kind." She let that hang as she resumed eating, letting him try and figure out what that meant.
"Your scars?" He asked, still watching her. He ment the ones he'd seen yesterday. "So they saved you? That's why you don't leave?" He stuff the last few bits of his breakfast in his mouth, not wanting the cereal to get soggy.
"The scars are partly from my foster families, but the majority are from the illegal experiments men did on me for years." She prodded at her food with her spoon, not really hungry anymore. "Laboratory after laboratory. I escaped one only to be caught and taken to another one." She shrugged at his question about her leaving. "That, and I have my own personal mission to carry out before I leave for good."
Karkotas mouth dropped open. He hadn't really been expecting all that. If anything he thought that her group did that to her.
"Well dang." He said at last. "I uh, I'm sorry you went through all that. I'd have never guessed." And then something else clicked, "was that where you where dreaming about last night?"
A muscle in her cheek feathered as she clenched her jaw. "Yeah," she said softly. She then abruptly pushed off the counter, taking her cereal and dumping out what she hadn't eaten. "There are clothes in your closet for you to change in to. We're leaving in ten minutes. Don't be late or I'm dragging you with me with whatever you have on." And with that, she headed upstairs.
He frowned, wishing he hadn't brought it up. But it was to late now. So he walked over to the sink washed his bowl and made his way back to his room.
Karkota dug through the closet, as he was kind of piticuler about what he wore. He found a plain shirt, changed out of his old one, then found some pants he liked. He quickly threw those on too, then grabbed some socks and his shoes.
Tessa dug through her closet for some clothes that would be good for dancing. She grabbed a cropped knitted sweater that had large holes between the yarn, a black sports bra, high waisted shorts, and just grabbed some sandals. She threw it all on and tied her hair up in a high ponytail. Once dressed, she left her room.
"Oh crud, should I have dressed more sporty?" Karkota happened to walk out at the same time, and had looked her slightly surprised. "Where even are we going?"
"Dance studio. I'm helping to teach a class some choreo." Tessa looked over Karkota's outfit. "And you're fine. You won't be doing anything besides sitting and watching with your mouth sealed shut. I'll bring out the glue if I have to."
"Don't bring out the glue and I won't talk." Karkota raised his hands in defeat, actually smiling a little. "But what would your boss say to you bringing a tag along?"
"He'd fawn over the fact that I have friends," she grumbled, heading downstairs. "And do not even think about telling him anything that might insinuate that we're a thing!" she warned.
"I think you dragging me along would be enough to insinuate anything. But you can say whatever you'd like to him." Karkota laughed.
"Shut up and let's go." She quickly refilled Stella's food bowl before heading over to the front door, waiting for Karkota to hurry the hell up.
"Alright, alright." He briskly made his way to the door. "So you teach dance huh? What age group? Cuz if they're real young I'm hidding."
She waited for him to walk out the door before she locked it behind them and answered. "I teach and learn, but I've been there since I was 12, so I'm considered experienced enough to help teach. And the age group depends on the kind of song. Alex has oh so helpfully informed me that the song is Nicki Minaj Hey Mama."
"And that means?" Karkota raised an eyebrow. He wasn't really the type to listen to music, so he didn't even know what she was taking about. "What are there gonna be a bunch of nine year olds everywhere?"
Tessa tilted her head as she played the song in her mind, thinking over the lyrics before reciting them. "So I make sure that he's getting his share. So I make sure that his baby take care. So I make sure mama, toes on my knees. Keep him, please, rub him down, be a lady and a freak." she said, partially singing it with a wink once she was done.
