(Oof ah, which ever you prefer?)
(Nightmare?)
(Sure.)
Tessa thrashed in her sleep, whimpers escaping her lips. Chains dug into her skin. The cool metal bit into her bare and freshly shredded back. An iron gag was clamped over her mouth, smothering her screams and pleas. Salty tears streaked down her face. A knife sliced open her stomach. Please. Make it stop. I'll do anything! Just make it stop! Please!
She screamed in agony as needles pierced her skin, injecting unknown drugs into her body. She trashed and pulled against the chains, to no avail. Please end this. End me. I don't want to keep going anymore. Just make it stop.
Karkota was never a very heavy sleeper, especially when he wasn't in his own house. When he woke to whimpering he thought someone broke into the house. He jumoed to his feet- almost tripping over the blankets he knocked off the bed- and ran to Tessa's room.
He threw open her bedroom door and looked around wildly, before his eyes fell on her. "You okay?" He asked, almost whispering. As if his loudness hadn't already woken her.
She jolted awake, as if her nightmare had thrown her out, and her hand lashed out to grab a dagger that was lying on a bed stand. She whipped around, eyes wide and–and full of pure terror. She didn't move a muscle as she stared at Karkota, dagger held out before her–defensively.
Karkota held up his hands. If anything he was also freaked out. "What the heck was all that noise? Are you okay, did someone break in?" Though he had no doubts she'd have stabbed an intruder if there was one. He looked at the floor very much so thinking he'd spot a dead body.
"No," she breathed shakily. "No, it was just– It's fine. Just go back to sleep." She swallowed thickly, slowly setting the dagger back down. Her fingers raked through her hair, her whole body trembling still. Why did it have to happen to him? Of all the times?
"You're not fine. What the heck was that?" His tone making it obvious he wasn't gonna leave or stop asking questions till she answered. Even then he felt a need to comfort her too. That was another thing to add to his, what the heck am I doing, list.
"Just a nightmare. Don't worry about it." But despite her words, she sat up fully and wrapped her arms around her legs. Her chin rested on her knees, eyes slightly glazed as the memories continued to haunt her.
Karkota frowned, "if I approach you will you stab me?" And even with out the answer he did approach her. He even sat beside her, trying to be some kind of comfort. "My little sister used to have nightmares." His voice showing a hit of sadness, though he quickly pushed it away. "Do you need anything? A glass of water? I can go get Stella for you if you really want."
She refused to look at him. "I'm fine," she insisted. "Just go back to hating me." Her grip around her legs tightened as she stared at the opposite wall.
"See, you make that hard by being an okay person. Besides you brought me food and didn't lock me in a closet." He offered a kind smile, even though it was hard to see in the darkness. "Besides, talking about a nightmare can sometimes help."
"I'm not that cruel–locking you in a closet." She took a shaky breath. "And I don't want to talk about it. Just go away and let me be." She tried to sound harsh, but her voice cracked slightly with unshed tears.
"Sorry but there's no nogotating this. You tell me or I stay here all night and then we'll both be miserable. Well we both already are, but you know what I mean." He sighed, wishing he hadn't decided to be a decent person.
She shook her head and grabbed the blanket, throwing it over her head as she laid back down. There was no way in hell she would tell him about that. "It was just a memory," she mumbled.
Karkota raised an eyebrow. "Well heck, must of been bad if it made you whimper like that. Care to share any more? Or is that all I'm getting for now?" He watched as she became nothing but a lump under her blankets.
"That's all you're getting." She didn't want to talk anymore. Her voice was quiet and slightly pained, but she didn't move anymore. She stared at nothing.
"Right. Well I'm just a room away if you need me." Karkota watched her sadly for a few more moments before stretching and standing. "But if I hear you again I'm forcing you to tell me." He yawned and did a small wave. "Night, again."
"Night…"
It took her a while to calm down enough to fall asleep.
Karkotas adrenalin from thinking there was an intruder left him even more tired them before, so of course he was out with in minutes. His own dreams coming to haunt him that night, though they where no where as bad as Tessa's.
In the morning, Tessa absolutely refused to get up. Her head hurt and her bed was so comfy. Not to mention work. Since she had taken off yesterday, she had to come in early today to help teach a class. She groaned and grumbled, grabbing a pillow and throwing it over her head.
Karkota awoke a few more times that night, not to anything in particular, just as I said before, he is a light sleeper. But once morning came he forced himself to roll out of bed, even if he wasn't really gonna do anything.
Tessa grumbled to herself in Italian, and then shouted, "I KNOW!" as her alarm went off. She threw a pillow at it.
Karkota jumped when she shouted, and had a very puzzled look on his face when he heard something crash into other things. "You okay?" He called through the wall, not really wanting to face her in the mood she was in right now.
