Alex took a deep breath. "Let's talk about something else, yeah?" he said, raising his eyebrows a little bit.
Alex took a deep breath. "Let's talk about something else, yeah?" he said, raising his eyebrows a little bit.
"Yeah. That wouldn't hurt." Danny agreed with a slightly laugh. "Definitely wouldn't hurt."
He laughed, looking over at Danny. "Yeah."
Danny drummed his fingers on the bar, falling quiet. He wasn't really sure where to take this, having exhausted most of his conversation topics.
He thought for a moment. "Oh! I finally got past my writer's block and the story is going better!" he said, taking another sip of water.
"Shit, nice!" Danny grinned, rubbing his eye. "How much more did'ja get done?"
"Like…I think twenty more pages and then a hell of a lot of worldbuilding."
"Oh, jesus." Danny raised his eyebrows. "That's crazy sick, man, hell yeah."
"Yeah! I have a seperate doc where I keep track of all the worldbuilding info, and that's what I've really been pouring into lately and it's actually doing really great!"
"Oh, hell yeah!" Danny grinned, nodding along. "That so fuckin' sick! Sci-fi, right?"
"Yeah, Sci-fi." he replied with a nod, smiling. "And now I'm hopeful that I can actually get this goddamn first draft done, and then I'll be able to…do more…and then hopefully maybe publish it someday. Before I die."
Danny nodded "Whaddya mean by 'do more'? you gotta remember, man, I don't.. I dunno any of this writing shit, man. I dunno the process."
"More drafts. I can't just do one, edit, and call it done. No no no no. I gotta do a draft, then edit, then rewrite, then repeat. Over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over until I'm satisfied. And then, once I'm satisfied, I have to send it in to a professional editor who will tell me everything I've done wrong with it, and they'll write down edits for me to do. Then I'll do those edits, make yet another draft, and then, finally, at long last, send it in to a publisher…who will give me another list of edits before they'll even consider printing the book." he made a face.
It wasn't exactly clear if Danny absorbed any of that information, but he sure wanted to look like he did. "…Uh-huh." He mumbled, still trying to process and understand the words. "Right, so– I totally get what you just said, but just in case someone here is listening to our conversation and maybe didn't.. would you mind saying that again? In English?" He laughed slightly- he was joking, and didn't actually expect Alex to do that;
He sighed, running a hand through his hair. "Basically I have to write a fuckton more drafts before it's done, m'kay?" he replied with a laugh, looking over at the Werewolf with a faint little smile.
"Yeah. Okay, that makes more sense." Danny nodded, scratching his eyebrow. "Lemme know how that goes! I don't think I know the plot or anythin', but like- I'm super fucken' stoked for this thing."
He laughed. "It's gonna be years more before this is published, I think, if ever." he replied.
"Can't you self-publish or whatever? Like– once you're finished editing." Danny leaned on his elbow.
"Yeah, but that's hard to do in any real quantity. Finding a publisher means you can do more copies in more places." he explained.
Danny waited a beat before responding. "..Yeah. Makes sense, I guess."
He ran a hand through his hair, then stretched. "I should think about heading out soon."
"Yeah, I get it. Gettin' kinda late." Danny checked the time on his phone. "Almost midnight, goddamn. Surprised it's not later."
He yawned a little bit. "Mhm. And I've got work to do tomorrow, too, damn!"
"Goddamn." Danny shook his head. "Jesus, have fun with that."
He groaned, rubbing his forehead. "Ahhhh, fuck."
