“I’ll have to see what I have but we could probably find something.” Mara smiled a little. “I know I have some spare rope… I could use that to hold the curtain up and make a pull for it so it falls quickly.”
“I’ll have to see what I have but we could probably find something.” Mara smiled a little. “I know I have some spare rope… I could use that to hold the curtain up and make a pull for it so it falls quickly.”
"Right. I'll take a look around and see if I have anything that might work too." Darius folded his hands in his lap, looking down at the small woman next to him. He had to hold back the urge to just scoop her up. Out here, in his world… she looked even smaller. Fragile, even.
Mara nodded at his offer with a soft smile, leaning back against the pillow since she finally found a comfortable position. The design she had come up with in her mind was fairly simple but should work well until Darius fixed the wall, though she wasn't going to pressure him too much about that.
Darius let out a soft breath, head going back to rest against the headboard.
"We'll make it work, a lot better than it has been at least." He smiled faintly, eyes closed.
“I’m sure we will.” Mara agreed, looking up at her sleepy looking guardian. It was strange being this close to him but given the option to leave, she wasn't sure if she would. For one thing, she didn't have any of her equipment with her since… and second, she felt safer where she was at the moment.
Darius had to admit, he was tired. Still, he had to stay awake for the situation at hand. He didn't keep himself from changing his position, moving to lay down to get more comfortable. He opened his eyes, smiling sweetly at the woman much closer to him.
Mara smiled softly back at him, a little surprised that he moved closer. Unable to resist, she reached up and gently placed her small hand against him. He was so warm… She blushed and pulled her hand back. “Sorry.” she said shyly.
Darius blushed some when Mara touched him, smiling some.
"I don't mind," the man a softly, offering a sweet little thing as he settled down.
Mara nodded a little at his assurance though she was still blushing. “I, uhh… You're very warm.” she told him, not looking back at him yet.
"I am?" Darius chuckled softly, smiling some. "Well, I'm glad I am then, if you like it."
Mara looked up when he laughed, feeling the small rumble pass through her since they were so close at the moment. It was a strange sensation but… she didn't dislike the feeling. “I guess I do… I mean, I would be worried if you were colder.” she shrugged.
"Yes, I think I would be as well." Darius let out a soft breath, still smiling when Mara finally looked back up at him.
Mara finally gave a soft chuckle, shaking her head. She glanced over at the door for a moment before looking back at Darius. “How, uhh, how long do you think he'll stay?” she asked.
Darius thought a moment.
"I have no idea," he admitted. "If he needed to bribe me with food, then he might just be staying for a while…"
“Oh, ok.” she nodded a little, slightly disappointed but there wasn't anything that she could do about it. Mara sat up from the large pillow and looked around the room. She had been in here a couple times before but she had never really looked at everything, just what she needed to know.
The room was spacious, and full of things. Knick knacks lined the tops of the two desks, books stacked on shelves, candles crowded on the dresser top. There was a chaos to it all, but Darius knew where everything important was.
Mara smiled softly as she took in the haphazard layout of things. It usually gave her good places to find things she needed or places to hide when she needed to. Though there wasn't always much she needed from here.
Darius wouldn't have been surprised at all if Mara had mentioned anything about hiding somewhere in this room. Darius wouldn't have been able to tell she wasn't supposed to be there if she had just been out in the open, too used to just glancing over things.
"I'm going to go check and see if he's still here," Darius finally said, sitting up.
Mara wasn't about to give away all of her hiding places so soon after only meeting Darius earlier today. Regardless of how she felt about him knowing where her home was and how safe she was when he was around.
“Ok.” she replied, looking back at him and trying to keep some balance as the bed shifted as he moved.
Darius wouldn't blame Mara for that- after what his friend did, she had no reason to trust any human. So, he stood from the bed, walking over to the door to look out in the living room.
"He's gone," the man said, letting out a sigh of relief.
Mara held her breath as she watched Darius look out the door. Her heart beating quickly as she slowly stood up, preparing to run if necessary despite the ground being a little unsteady under her feet.
She shared in her friend’s relief, her head spinning a little, when he told her they were alone again.
Darius turned back to Mara, offering a gentle smile.
"Here, do you need help back into the living room?" He asked, stepping back over to the bed to stand over Mara.
Mara looked straight up at Darius and almost fell over but managed to catch herself. “Uh, yeah. What did you have in mind?” she asked.
"Well I was thinking I carry you back out," Darius admitted. "But we can do something else if you'd prefer." Darius knelt down when he saw Mara almost fall, more at eye level with her now.
Mara rubbed her neck, glad that she didn't have to look up so high at him and a little nervous about being carried… But she couldn't think of a better idea. “Ok.” she nodded slowly. “Just… keep your hands open.”
