Mara smiled softly, just enjoying this. The openness, the extra light, and having someone… This was better than before… after she moved away and ended up here.

Darius was just glad to know there was someone else with him in the apartment. He got lovely- that's why he got his mice. Still, there was something different about being able to talk to someone, and he was glad for it.
Mara had always known that someone else was there. It seemed impossible, to her, for people like her to survive without people like Darius. She just never thought it would be safe to interact with them.
Darius would understand that fear, seeing as he'd seen some not so savory things done to small creatures by other people. How many would consider Mara a pest?
The man finished his food, standing to go take care of his bowl.
Mara looked up when she noticed him moving. It was honestly hard for her to miss and sort of interesting to watch… If that made any sense. He was just so big to her, it was like watching a mountain get up and walk.
Darius glanced over at Mara as he passed, flashing her a quick smile before he continued into the kitchen. It was so strange, seeing such a small woman. She did remind him a bit of Smoke and Ash, just so small…
Mara smiled back, a little embarrassed that she had been staring, but she tried to brush it off. It was strange for both of them, she was sure, so there were bound to be awkward moments until they got used to each other and figured out what was ok.
Indeed, there would be. Darius washed out his bowl, thinking some as he cleaned up. He couldn't help but let the thought come to mind-
Would Mara let him hold her?
He didn't want to be rude, of course, or hurt or scare Mara. Maybe it would be too much, and that was okay. He wouldn't ask today, anyway.
Mara wasn't exactly shy she just preferred not taking big risks when she didn't need to. Personally, she hadn't thought about being held voluntarily… though she had imagined Darius picking her up when they first met. It had been both a relief and a surprise when he didn't. But the question of why hadn't really gone away.
Darius knew better than to pick up any animal you had just destroyed the house of. Still, he had to admit he was still tempted to just walk over and pluck Mara out of her home. Still, he held back, figuring that might not be the best idea. Instead, he moved to sit back down on the couch, humming some.
Mara looked up when she heard him walk back into the room and smiled a little. How could someone so big, so imposing, make her feel so calm now. She wouldn't say that she was scared of people like Darius before but she knew to avoid them. In fact, she was willing to bet that she could still hide from him if she wanted to.
Darius wouldn't be surprised if in the morning when he checked, everything would be gone. He couldn't guarantee Mara would stay after being found out. Still, it was nice to think they'd be able to be friends.
The man looked up, offering a smile to Mara as he sat down before turning back to the pile of papers he had on the table.
If they hadn't spoken, he would be right to think that. Normally, when someone like Mara was too close to being discovered, they moved away quickly and hardly left even a trace that they had been at the house. But after their brief talk, Mara didn't think Darius was that dangerous and he seemed willing to keep her existence a secret so… it didn't feel like a very big risk to stay. They would probably need to come up with some signals for once the hole was patched up for her to know if someone else was coming over or leaving or even if Darius just wanted to see her. And she would have to figure out away to reply…
Indeed they would. For now, though, the picture would work just fine, and they could relax. Darius hummed some as he pulled his legs close, grabbing a pillow.
(Should we have someone show up for some drama? Or figure something else out?)
"Why are you sitting like that?" Mara asked, wondering why he was cuddling a pillow.
(If you'd like to, I don't mind. Would definitely be interesting.)
"Hm? Oh, it's a comfort thing, I suppose. My family was very… physical, with affection. Lots of cuddling. It feels weird, almost, to be sitting on a couch and not have a little sibling sitting with me." The man hummed some, reflecting on the memories.
(Got it! I'll do it in the next response or two)
"Oh." Mara nodded. "I guess I wouldn't know that feeling since I was an only child." she explained softly. It wasn't exactly lonely for her growing up with just her parents and it wasn't boring either since they both had a lot to teach her.
(Ok. Looking forward to it.)
(P.S. feel free to have the person just snatch her up. I'm fine with that stuff.)
(Got it!)
"Oh…" Darius offered a smile, a little embarrassed. "It would make sense you wouldn't understand, then." he gave a nervous chuckle. He didn't have time, then, when the door to the apartment was unlocked, his friend coming in with a laugh.
"Honey, I'm home~!" Darius jumped in his seat looking over as his friend came barreling into the room with a grin.
"I figured you were lonely, so I brought some McDonald's while I steal your Disney plus."
Mara nodded at Darius's comment as she rubbed the back of her neck a little, wondering if she had missed out because of that fact when the other loud voice interrupted any response she might have made.
Darius sputtered some, caught off guard enough that he completely forgot about the painting and needing to hide Mara. His friend came in, tossing the fast-food bag towards the man on the couch.
"Think fast! There's a new episode of Wandavision episo-" The friend paused, looking at the hole in the wall.
"Damn," he mumbled making his way over and snatching Mara up in his hand. "The hell's this?"
"H-Hey!" Darius shot up when he realized his friend had grabbed Mara, hurrying over.
Mara froze when she noticed the other one looking at the hole… and no doubt saw her as well. Before she had a chance to run and hide, the tiny girl found herself trapped when he grabbed her. She tried to push away the long fingers the size of her body but she knew that she wouldn't be able to move them.
Darius made his way over to his friend, pulling his fingers away and managing to get him to drop Mara safely into his waiting hand.
"The hell's going on, Dar?" The friend demanded, as Darius held Mara close.
Mara let out a shriek as she fell through the air for a few seconds. Her heart still racing even though she was now in her friend’s hand.
