“I just saw you, like, yesterday for lunch,” Amber reminded him with a chuckle, pecking his lips back. “How was class?”
“I just saw you, like, yesterday for lunch,” Amber reminded him with a chuckle, pecking his lips back. “How was class?”
Jace wrapped an arm around her, bumping his nose with hers. "It was boring since I don't share it with you," he pouted before he remembered something. "Oh, you had a presentation today, didn't you? How'd it go? Did our flower boy give you a hard time?"
Amber scrunched her nose up at the bump. “It actually went really well. Our professor was impressed. And… Why do you calm him that?” she wondered, eyebrows dipping curoiusly.
"Of course she was," Jace nodded before he laughed. "Well, a flower boy is cute and adorable. The team uses that term to annoy him. I just picked it up. He absolutely hates it, which is the best part."
Amber hummed, a small smile making its way to her features. “That’s pretty amusing, I guess. What about you? Do they have a nickname for you?”
Jace scrunched his nose. "They call me the annoying son," he grumbled. "I'm not even annoying."
“Mm, I’m sure you’re not,” Amber teased with a grin, laughter turning her voice. She reached up to kiss him quickly again before taking his hands in hers. “So, do you want to get some lunch with me now?”
Jace frowned at her. "You seem to think otherwise…" he mumbled, taking his hand back and crossing his arms. "Go away. You can eat lunch with someone who's not annoying."
Amber pouted up at him, her lower lip sticking out playfully. "Aw, c'mon… You know you'll regret it if I do."
Jace quirked an eyebrow. "Do not look at me like that," he warned her, lifting a finger.
"C'mon, Jace…" Amber continued to pout, her eyes widening slightly more and her lip sticking out farther.
Jace covered his face with his hands. "All right, all right! Stop looking at me like that, sheesh."
Amber's face broke into a wide grin, and she reached up to peck his lips again. "Great. Shall we go out or stay here?"
“We should go out,” Jace suggested. “That would feel like a date.”
"Mm, yeah… Don't I still get to pick this date, too?" Amber remembered musingly. "If so, I think we should go get Chinese."
Jace snorted.
“All right,” he grinned. “Chinese it is then.”
A few weeks later, Amber was walking back from one of her classes, the last of the day. The class had gone later than usual, and now the sun was just disappearing over the horizon. With the world cast into shadows, nearly everything appeared different than what it was. Including the shadow that seemed to stretch up beside her own…
She didn't glance back — if she did, she knew it would just seem like she was suspicious, and she knew that usually didn't end well. If there really was someone following her, she was sure they would get bored eventually.
William walked out of his room, furrowing his eyebrows when he realized Amber hadn’t been home yet. Usually he could hear her in her room, humming or just doing nothing in particular, but she’d been eerily quiet. Often times she would come out of her room at this specific time to grab a snack, but she hadn’t done that, either…
Scoffing at himself, William poured a glass of water. Why did he care? She was probably at her boyfriend’s. It didn’t really matter, did it? She could come and go whenever she wanted. She wasn’t entitled to anything.
He took out his phone and leaned against the counter, reluctant to go back to him room. There were about three hundred unread messages. He scowled. Of course, trust his teammates to bomb the group chat they had. Why did they add him, anyway? They were lucky their manager was in the group, too, otherwise he would have left a long time ago. That’s when he caught the constant messages sent by Tweedle Dee, aka Amber’s boyfriend. Why would he be texting about missing his girlfriend if she was… Oh.
When, even after a few blocks, the shadow continued behind her, Amber started to worry. Why was she being followed? Who was following her?
A few deep breaths later, she managed to call the first person who popped into her head. William.
William didn't understand why he was sitting in the living room rather than in his own room. Then he shook his head, coming to terms with the reason. He was concerned for his dormmate. That's right–although he wanted her gone numerous times, he was concerned. He wouldn't have cared if she was with her boyfriend, but she wasn't. She hadn't texted him, either, like she usually would if she wasn't coming to the dorm. Obviously, he was a bit troubled. That's when his phone rang. He checked the caller ID; Blue. He picked it up after a sigh.
"Where are you?" he questioned, keeping his voice normal. He didn't want her to think he was actually concerned.
"I'm on my way back right now. Class went a little later than usual," Amber said, trying to keep her voice as calm as possible. There may have been a bit of… fear, maybe? in her voice, but she tried to hide it. "And I seem to have picked up a friend…"
(Uh oh)
William quirked an eyebrow, noticing the unusual tone to her voice.
"'Friend?'" he repeated, narrowing his eyes. "And I suppose that friend of yours isn't friendly? Where are you right now, exactly?"
"Don't think so. Very quiet and keeping back," Amber answered softly, trying to keep her voice low. The shadow grew slightly shorter, and she bit her lip as she realized that meant her followers had gotten closer. "The Law dorms. Not hard to find."
William stood up, already making his way to the door. "All right, I'm coming," he said softly, surprised at the tone of his voice. When had he begun talking like that with her? Why had he begun talking like that with her? "Stay on the call. Talk to me. I won't be long."
