Jace pulled away, grinning down at her. “How long are you staying for?”
Jace pulled away, grinning down at her. “How long are you staying for?”
Amber shrugged and smiled up at him. “How long do you want me to stay? I’m free all day.”
“You can stay for as long as you like,” Jace shrugged. “You don’t have a curfew rule, do you?” he added rather sarcastically, remembering what happened a few minutes ago.
Amber’s nose twitched at his tone. “No, we don’t… I don’t have to be home until I want to go home.”
Jace smiled. “Perfect! So we can just ignore the mess and play something? Or do you just want to cuddle?”
“Who says we can’t do both?” Amber suggested with a laugh. “We could play twenty questions or something.”
“Ah, I like the way you think,” Jace grinned. “Twenty questions it is then.”
Amber chuckled and pecked his lips. “What can I say? I’m a genius,” she joked.
“That, I have no trouble agreeing with,” Jace responded, pinching her nose lightly, standing up straight so she couldn’t retaliate.
The next weekend, Amber was cleaning out the dorm, taking out garbages and such. The only garbage she hadn’t taken out was the one in William’s room. He wasn’t home yet — the boys were all at basketball practice — so she figured she may as well just go grab it quick from his room. Besides, it wasn’t like she was going to go snooping around, anyway.
Practice, as always, went normal. There were no accidents, and no one was late. After practice, each of the boys helped their manager clean up before they decided to go out to eat.
"Hey, William, you comin'?" Casper called out, to which William responded by a shake of his head. The boys shrugged before leaving. The atmosphere between him and Jace wasn't pleasant, but it wasn't something William couldn't ignore. As long as he wasn't provoked, he was fine. He turned towards Caroline, expecting her to walk with him. To his satisfaction, she did. They walked slowly, talked a little before William dropped her to her dorm, hesitating before he gave her a small kiss on the top of her head.
Without wasting any time, he walked back to his own dorm, wanting nothing more than to shower and sleep. But when he did get back, the door to his room was open. He didn't remember leaving it open. He walked slowly, eyes narrowing, fists clenched. There she was, Amber in his room. He didn't stop to think whether she wanted something–after all, why would she be bent over his garbage bin? His eyes flashed towards his medication on his nightstand, and the stack of papers on his desk and that was enough to anger him.
"What do you think you're doing?"
The sound of the door closing didn’t even reach Amber’s ears. What did, though, were the angry words of her dormmate coming from behind her. She immediately stood up straight, the bag of trash in her hands as she turned to face William.
“Just taking out your trash, William,” she answered slowly. “Sorry, I didn’t realize you would be home so soon. Otherwise, I would have just asked you to do it.”
William gritted his teeth, all thoughts of reason flowing out of his head. She said she was just trying to take out his trash–no harm was done. That didn't mean he was okay with it. He didn't want anyone in his room no matter what the reason. People were curious by nature. Who's to say she didn't look at the papers on his desk? Why couldn't she just mind her own business?
"I thought I made it clear that I don't want anyone in my room," he started slowly, trying to control his anger but failing terribly. He tried to remember what he was told in case he couldn't keep a hold on his anger, but it slipped his mind. "Get out."
He looked dangerous as he growled those words at her. The fire in his eyes, one of pure, unfiltered anger, burned hot. Amber’s own eyes widened slightly, almost imperceptibly, before she looked down.
“Whatever, William,” she muttered, trying not to remember the time he’d pinned her against the wall, his hands tightly gripping her arms. She huffed, bluffing nonchalance, and carefully made her way around William and out of his room, making sure not to catch his eye.
William’s eyes watched Amber as she maneuvered around him, walking out with her head ducked. He knew it wasn’t right to release his frustration on her, but that was the problem. He couldn’t control it. He knew he needed help, but he didn’t want it. Things had been going smoothly until she stepped into his life. William just didn’t understand what her problem was. She kept getting on his nerves and broke not one but two rules.
Once she left, he closed the door and ran a frustrated hand through his head. He wished he could be normal, but he couldn’t be so he just had to live with it. Amber… just made it harder to live with it.
You need to stop breaking rules, Amber… He’s going to get really upset one day if this keeps happening. And that definitely wouldn’t end well…
Amber sighed as she took the garbage bags out. She really needed to remember not to break their rules. If she didn’t… who knows what would happen.
William sighed heavily, shaking his head. He needed to stop treating her like this. It wasn’t like she meant any harm. She was just taking out the trash.
William wished he had his drum set—the music produced would have made it easier for him to relax. All he had on him was his violin and his flute. He decided to pick the flute, sitting on the bed, and blowing gently.
William opened the freezer, looking down at the milk. He sighed. He usually got one carton, but he didn’t know whether she wanted two or more. Taking out his phone, he scrolled through his contact list, stopping when he found Amber’s number. Blue.
WILLIAM: One carton of milk, or two?
Amber glanced down at her phone as she browsed through the peanut butter. On the screen showed a text from William, to which she responded:
AMBER: I think one… Actually, I think we went through two last month because I had to go buy another. So grab two.
William stuffed his phone back into his pocket and grabbed two cartons of milk, setting it in the cart before he moved on to the eggs. He got the twin packs, making some space for them as he didn’t want them breaking.
Once he was done crossing everything out, he quirked an eyebrow. He should get some more instant noodles for himself…
Amber passed into the noodles section and grabbed some packs of spaghetti noodles. Glancing over the other things, she wondered if she should grab anything else. Her eyes traveled over the packs of instant noodles, and she vaguely remembered seeing William eating some.
AMBER: Did you want any more instant noodles? I’m already here if you do.
Feeling his phone buzz, William stopped walking, taking the device out and opening the message he got. He stared at it for a good few minutes before he sighed. She could have just not bothered. Was it really that difficult?
WILLIAM: Yes.
He paused just before he hit enter. Contemplating whether to add something else, he sighed.
WILLIAM: Thank you.
Amber glanced down at his response, the second bringing a tiny smile to her face. She texted back before grabbing a few packages and tossing them into her cart.
AMBER: You’re welcome.
After getting everything on his list, William began making his way towards the cashier when he caught sight of Amber. Even though her back was to him, he didn’t have any trouble recognizing her. After all, they saw each other every day.
Walking behind her, and careful not to hurt her through the cart, he cleared his throat.
“Did you get everything?”
(And her hair is kind of unforgettable. Especially to Will… 😉 Lol.)
Amber turned to face William, a lock of hair falling in her face as she spun around. She blew it away, but it didn’t really move much, so she just brushed it out of her face.
“Yeah, I did. You?” she asked, glancing in his cart.
