Jace swallowed thickly, but didn’t drop the smile on his face.
“You have? Wow,” he shook his head, walking over to the room they were supposed to go in. Trailers had already started—even though Jace was hoping the movie had already started. “Okay, so we’re sitting at the top seats.”
“The best spot,” Amber hummed approvingly. She glanced over at Jace and smirked. “Race you?”
“I have drinks in my hands!” Jace complained. “You’re at an advantage. That’s not very fair, Amber!”
“Hey, I’m carrying the popcorn! It’s totally fair!” Amber laughed.
“The popcorn will be fine! The drinks won’t be!” Jace shot back, but Amber had already made a run for it. “Hey!”
Amber giggles as she dashed up the stairs, taking some of them two at a time. “First one up picks the next date~!”
Jace ran after her, though careful as to not drop the drinks. His girlfriend was so childish—he adored it.
“You are a cheater!” He exclaimed through his laughter. He lost. When they were inside, Jace playfully glared at her. “I let you win.”
“Sure you did,” Amber chuckled as she sat down. “I’m going to use this power wisely…”
Jace opened his mouth to respond when the lights went out, loud sound filling their ears. Jace gulped.
The movie had begun.
Amber curled up in her seat and tossed some popcorn into her mouth. This was going to be great. She couldn’t wait to see what happened.
After a few minutes into the movie, Jace froze. It was dark in the setting, and there were rattles and sounds of creaking. A woman stood up and turned on the lights, slowly getting out of her room. Jace’s eyes widened as big as saucers.
“No, no, no, no,” he whispered harshly, shoving popcorn in his mouth. “Are you an idiot? Go back! Lock the door!”
Amber pursed her lips, hiding a laugh. Was he scared? Gosh, that was funny…
Jace’s commentary didn’t stop there. His body trembled. He didn’t even know why he agreed to watch this in the first place. Did he want to die?
When the group decided to split up, Jace almost choked on his popcorn.
“No, no, no, NO,” he exclaimed, eyes wide. “Don’t you know you should never split up?! Don’t you watch horror movies at home?!”
“Jace, oh my word,” Amber whispered, laughing quietly. “Shh…”
Jace whipped his head towards Amber, startled. How was she so calm? Why was she so calm about this? He looked back at the screen, face pale and eyes wide.
“Crap, look behind you! Look behind you!” Jace whispered, clutching his drink tightly as one of the characters went outside to check something out. “Look behind you, oh my God!”
The man in the screen looked back far too late and ended up with his head rolling on the floor. Jace felt like he would faint.
“Why are these people so stupid?!” He gasped in alarm. “Don’t you know you should never go out alone like this? In the middle of the night?”
“Jace! Shh….” Amber hissed, holing in more laughter. “Honestly… If you’re not quiet, I might not kiss you later…”
That was enough to snap Jace out of it. Without tearing his eyes from the screen, he reached over to clasp Amber’s hand.
“Okay, okay, I’ll be quiet—oh my God!” he let out a scream, and thankfully it was covered by a few more gasps and the loud music of the movie. “Imgoingtodieimgoingtodieimgoingtodie oh my God.”
“Oh my gosh… Was that a scream? Jace, did you just scream?” Amber laughed quietly, covering her mouth with her free hand.
“Sh-shut up,” Jace squeezed his eyes shut, wishing the movie would just end. He couldn’t help but peeking, but getting startled by a jumpscare.
Amber was biting her lip to keep from laughing at Jace. “Oh my gosh… You are so cute… Oh my gosh…”
Jace shot her a glare. When the credits rolled by, he was white as a sheet.
“I am never watching a horror movie again. Ever.” Jace declared. “I thought I was going to die, oh my God.”
“If you don’t like horror movies, then why did you pick this one?” Amber asked, laughing as she turned to him.
Jace’s cheeks turned a little pink.
“I uh… I wanted to impress you…” he mumbled, rubbing the back of his neck as they exited the theater.
(Awww ok maybe he's good enough for Amber)
Amber smiled softly and pressed a gentle kiss to his cheek. “That’s sweet, Jace… But you don’t have to watch horror movies to impress me.”
