“Great!” He said, following close behind her, peering into the fridge with her, humming softly under his breath.
“Great!” He said, following close behind her, peering into the fridge with her, humming softly under his breath.
Mia thought quietly, squatting some.
"Well, how does any kind of meat sound? There's a lot of different kinds in here…"
“That sounds fine with me.” He said, looking around in other parts of the fridge just to see what he could find.
There was… a lot. Food was tucked securely in every open space, offering most anything Simon might want.
"How does turkey or chicken sound?" Mia asked, pulling out a chicken breast.
“Chicken sounds great honestly.” Simon responded. “Should we make anything to go with it? We do have a lot of stuff in here. Maybe a fruit salad or something? Just a small one though, wouldn’t want it to go bad.”
"A fruit salad sounds good," Mia agreed. She moved over to the counter, taking the chicken out of the packet to start preparing it.
“Okay, cool! Are there any fruits you don’t like so that way I won’t put them in by mistake?” He asked, beginning to grab some from the fridge already.
"Not any I can think of!" Mia smiled, looking to Simon a moment.
“Okay then I’ll just chop some up.” He said, grabbing a handful of fruits and bringing them over to the counter.
"Got it." Mia started the chicken, cutting it into proper portions and seasoning it, moving over to the pan.
Simon grabbed a big bowl and a cutting board, beginning to chop up the fruits, humming softly under his breath as he did so.
Mia cooked quietly, smiling a bit. They were… well, relaxed here. They could both be calm as they did this together.
Simon’s mood was significantly better than normal solely because he wasn’t afraid that Astral was going to come hurt them right now.
Mia used tongs to move the chicken around some, looking over at Simon with a soft smile. That was pretty much the only reason for her too, besides the fact Simon was willing to eat.
Simon really hoped it’d all last. If Astral improved then Simon’s mental stability would as well. “I’m all finished over here!” Simon announced after a few minutes, looking over at Mia.
"Okay! I'll be done in a bit, just have to make sure the chicken's cooked all the way through." Mia pulled out the meat thermometer, pushing it into the largest section of one chicken breast. Once she was sure it and the other were cooked, she moved them from the pan and set them on two plates.
Simon nodded, grabbing a big serving spoon or something for the fruit salad. He moved the bowl to the center of the counter once he was finished. Actually doing something for once felt really nice.
Mia carried the plates over, offering one to Simon as she sat down.
"Looks good!" She said, smiling.
Simon smiled back, proud of his work. “Thanks! Let’s eat!” He said, taking his plate from Mia and sitting next to her at the kitchen counter.
"Yeah!" Mia took up her fork to pull off a piece of the chicken, putting it in her mouth. She smiled, taking a spoonful of the fruit salad as well onto her plate.
Simon started eating, still not enthusiastically, but he wasn’t having to force himself to as much which was a significant improvement. He smiled softly, feeling a small sense of pride.
Mia was proud, too. Really, really proud. Simon was doing much better now than before Astral had shown up, so whatever had actually happened had helped some. While Mia still hated Astral will all of her fiber, she had to admit this was nice.
Simon hummed softly, still trying not to think about the food in front of him too much, worried that he'd lose his appetite. But so far, so good. Hopefully it’d stay like this, at least for a few days. He still ate pretty slowly, so he’d take longer than Mia would.
Mia did finish first, but she didn't get up. She stayed sat at Simon's side, smiling at him occasionally.
At some point, Simon needed a break. Just a short one though, he was determined to finish what he had on his plate. He looked over at Mia, smiling. “Did you like the fruit?” He asked excitedly.
