"No just saying that it's small. It might not be as bad. I have like no hand-eye coordination. Anytime I've played soccer the ball usually ends up hitting me in the face," She said. "The football team doesn't seem that bad we've won all the games so far this year. Brandens on the team so I've been to almost all the games."
"Oh, right." Ciel grimaced slightly at her misunderstanding, but the expression was soon replaced with a smile. "Oh, a ball to the face is the absolute worst. That's definitely one of the many things I don't miss about the sport." She nodded. "That's good. I'll have to go to a game with you sometime. See what it's like going to a game that we actually win. If you're okay with that." Ciel added quickly.
"That would be fun seeing as I get so bred during games," She said. "I never have any clue whats going on." She smiled at Ciel. her phone vibrated but she didn't pick it up. "So how are you liking your first day?"
"Awesome! Let me know when the next game is, and we can be clueless about football together." Ciel grinned, already looking forward to the game. She'd never been too fond of football, but it would be way more fun with Melissa there. "Oh, it's been good. Everyone seems alright, and the classes seem fine as well." Her eyes darted to the phone, but soon went back to Melissa's face. "I'm just going to thank you again for helping me and being so wonderful. It's made this transition way easier."
"It's really no problem. The person that was supposed to show me around practically just bailed on me right after leaving the office," She said. "Plus I needed the community service hours." She half-joked smirking slightly. She crossed her legs and finally looked at her phone after it vibrated again. She sent a text and then put it back down.
"Oh, well, I still appreciate you for doing it." Ciel raised her hand slightly, about to pat Melissa's shoulder– she was an awkward child sometimes, sue her– then panicked and ran her hand over her hair instead– no, her face wasn't pink, it was just the lighting. "That's really rude of them. I hope you were alright. I don't know what I would have done if you hadn't helped me find my first class."
Melissa slightly flinched when Ciel moved her hand. She tried to play it off like he was just shifting her position. "You seem pretty smart bet you would have found it," She smiled. "But yeah I was fine. it was technically everyone's first day so I didn't really need a guide since teachers were being lenient."
"Smart?" Ciel grimaced playfully, trying to calm her heart down. She'd seen the flinch and was angry at herself for moving at all. Why had Melissa done that? Who did Ciel have to kill– she bit the inside of her lip to stop herself from going on a tangent. "I mean, I guess? I'm definitely not smart sometimes. But it's good that it was the first day for you. This coming-in-in-the-middle-of-the-year thing is the worst!"
“Yeah seems like it would be tough. I was pretty much invisible here for the first month Though,” she said smiling still. There was footsteps coming from a few feet away. “Melissa. I said to come in the weight room you-“ he cut himself off when he saw Ciel. “You said you where pissing.” He looked between the two.
“I was but we decided to sit for a bit after,” she said going to stand up. Her cheeks where tinted pink.
"Hopefully, it won't be as hard with you here." Ciel sighed, smiling softly at Melissa before turning her head towards the footsteps. "It's nice not being totally invisible–" She stopped short when she heard Branden. "Uh… Um. Wha…" Ciel frowned at Branden, wondering what he was doing there. Well, probably checking on his girlfriend, but while she was supposed to be in the bathroom?
Branden walked over and kissed Melissa as soon as she stood up. Pressing her against the lockers slightly. He pulled away. “Come in baby let’s go back to the weight room,” he said not even glancing at Ciel.
“In a bit Branden. Now come on you arent even supposed to be in here,” she said trying not to glare at him.
“Fine I’ll see you in a few,” He said squeezing her arm slightly. He leaned in and whispered something in her ear before turning around. He left the room before Melissa sat back down.
Ciel found something very interesting in the wall in the opposite direction of the couple. She was feeling extremely awkward and wanted to disappear from that room. Ciel stayed seated, not wanting to draw any attention to herself. Although, it seemed like even if she started dancing, Branden would still ignore her. Which was probably a good thing. She let out a breath when he left the room, although it seemed like they were going to have to go back to running. "Uh… are we going back to the weight room now?"
“In a minute. Sorry. We don’t have to run Th Pugh. I’m probably not going to be in the weight room that long,” she said looking down at the mat. She played with a loose thread. “There’s only like 30 mini left anyway.” She didn’t want to get up yet so she pretended to fix things in her bag.
"Oh, don't apologize. You didn't do anything," Ciel said, looking at Melissa, her face somewhat sad. "Why won't you be in the weight room long?" She frowned slightly, worried about Melissa's hesitant behavior. It appeared like she didn't want to leave, and Ciel didn't want to either. But she also didn't want Branden coming back.
She smiled slightly. “Branden will probably want to sneak off,” she said before standing again. “I should get going.”
"Right." Ciel nodded slightly, standing as well. "I'll walk you out, though probably not all the way to the weight room. I don't think I can run anymore today." She laughed and grabbed her bag.
“Yeah that’s fine,” she said smiling at her. She wanted to take Ciel’s hand again but didn’t. She knew she was already in trouble with Branden. She put on her bag and started to walk towards the door.
"Cool." Ciel gave her a small smile, then followed behind her slightly. It didn't look like Melissa would be grabbing her hand, which made Ciel a bit sad. But she understood it, or at least she was pretty sure she did. Brandon didn't seem to like Ciel very much, and them going around holding hands was probably not what he wanted either.
“I’ll see you tomorrow?” She asked once they where in front of the weight room. She was going to open the weight room door once Ciel answered but Brandon came out. He wrapped an arm around her waist. “Finally,” he mumbled.
"Yeah, I'll–" Ciel stopped speaking when Branden came out of the weight room. "I'll see you tomorrow. Goodbye, Melissa!" She gave Melissa a radiant smile– a bit overdone, for Branden's sake– and turned, walking towards the far side of the gym where the water fountain was. Her throat was a bit dry still from the running… and she also didn't want to see Branden kiss Melissa again.
(Time skip?)
Branden practically dragged Melissa to the boys locker room. Some how avoiding getting in trouble. She had to resist the urge to look behind her at Ciel.
(Yep! You want to do it?)
(Sure)
Melissa came into school with a slight limp. She went to her first period and sat down at the same spot she was yesterday. Her eyes fixed on the desk. She looked ok if not a little tired. She didn’t join in with the others conversations when they walked in.
Ciel burst into the classroom a few seconds before the bell and hurried towards the empty seat next to Melissa. Her hair was loose around her shoulders, and she was clutching a pair of earrings in her fist. "Hey, there." Ciel smiled at Melissa, then put on the earrings and slumped down in her chair.
Melissa smiled slightly at her. “Hey! Your in a rush,” she said laughing slightly. She tried reminding herself that this was a bad idea. That she planned on not being friends with Ciel but she couldn’t make herself ignore her.
