Cas sighed softly and nodded, continuing to drudge on beside Zachary. Nix was idly dozing in Derlik's arms, still quivering lightly.
Cas sighed softly and nodded, continuing to drudge on beside Zachary. Nix was idly dozing in Derlik's arms, still quivering lightly.
Derlik didn't offer any help to Cas and Zachary. He cared more about Nix, the tired, scared cat in his arms. He hugged the man close, gently kissing his head.
Zachary watched for a moment, then turned to Cas to try to offer encouragement.
Cas looked up at Zachary tiredly, looking exhausted at this point. He really wanted to take a break, but he didn't want anyone to be mad at him for asking.
Zachary was struggling at this point, doing his best to keep going.
"I…" He was breathing heavily, coming to a stop. "I… please, I… can't keep going…"
"Let's… let's take a break…" Cas gently guided Zachary over to the side and sat on the ground with him, checking him over to make sure he was okay.
Zachary was fine, if not exhausted. He rested his head on Cas's shoulder, breathing heavily. Derlik paused, then turned.
"We have to be to the house before Mother comes to check on us," he said, tensing some. "We can't stop."

"Derlik, we're gonna collapse if we don't take a break. We're not big powerful gods like you, okay? We just need a few minutes." Cas sighed softly and huddled up against Zachary.
Derlik seemed apathetic, then looked away with a tsk.
"Five minutes, and after that I'm leaving whether you two come or not." Zachary was quiet, hugging Cas and gently kissing his head.
Cas rolled his eyes and rested his head on Zachary's shoulder, his breathing a bit labored. In addition to the journey already being difficult, Cas wasn't particularly in shape, so his stamina wasn't great. Nix huddled closer to Derlik, purring weakly.
Zachary rubbed Cas's back, kissing his forehead. His own breathing was labored as well, but he was doing his best to slow it down. They didn't have much time, after all.
Derlik gently kissed Nix's head, rubbing small circles in his back.
"I've got you, I've got you…"
Cas closed his eyes, trying to get himself to relax so he could regain his energy more quickly. "We're gonna be okay…" He murmured. "We're gonna be fine…"
Zachary nodded slowly, holding Cas closer.
"I love you so much…" Derlik moved to sit down on the other side of the path, Nix sat gently in his lap.
"I love you too…" Cas murmured, relaxing a bit more into Zachary's gentle touch. Nix looked up at Derlik quietly when the god sat down.
Zachary had gotten his breathing under control, kissing Cas's head again. Derlik pulled Nix close, running his fingers through the mortal's hair.
"I've got you…"
Cas returned the kiss, seeming pretty tired still, but breathing more normally. Nix closed his eyes and purred softly at the petting, curling his tail around himself.
Derlik waited for the five minutes to be up before standing. It wasn't really that much time at all.
"Let's go, you two," he said, offering his hand to Zachary and Cas to help them up. He had Nix tucked against his chest with his other arm, thumb running over his back.
"Okay…" Cas reluctantly got to his feet and helped Zachary up as well. Nix yawned a bit and rested his head on Derlik's shoulder, his gaze hazy. He didn't seem to be fully there.
Derlik was glad Nix wasn't. If he was, he'd be so much more scared… Derlik just patted his back lightly, walking on. Zachary leaned on his cane for support when he was up, wrapping his arm around Cas's waist.
Cas supported Zachary as well as he could as he walked, glaring at Derlik's back. Nix was trembling lightly, but he kept completely silent, and his eyes were distant.
Derlik started whispering soft assurances to Nix as they walked, Nix to his chest and cradled like a child. Zachary looked as well, then turned to Cas.
Cas looked up at Zachary, obviously uneasy. He was worried about Nix, of course, and how reliant he was on Derlik. There wasn't anything he could really do about it at the moment, though.
