Matthew nodded some, not saying a word as he hurried out of the hotel room and closing the door. Timmy was starting to panic, crying some. Matthew stayed by Rowan's side, eyes wide.
"Shh, shh, it's okay baby… we're gonna find them, okay?" Rowan told Timmy nervously, not seeming very confident. "Where could they have gone?" He asked Matthew.
"I-I- the store, maybe?" Matthew had no idea. Nothing- this didn't happen, not in this world. Timmy was still crying, curled up in a small ball.
Rowan nodded weakly and kept running, his exhaustion temporarily overtaken by adrenaline. "Where's the store?"
"That- that way," Matthew said, pointing. He was running, barely keeping himself by Rowan. His stride was that much bigger, after all.
Rowan nodded again and followed Matthew into the store, where he started looking around frantically and calling out the little birds' names in hopes that they would call back or find their way to him.
It was silent a moment, but soon there could be heard the frantic yelling of one of the chicks, trying to get Rowan's attention in the back room.
Rowan perked up at the soft sound and paused for a moment to listen before bolting again, following the sound of the chick's voice. He found the back room and started pounding on the door.
The door was opened after a moment.
"Can I help you–"
Rowan pushed the person aside without letting them finish and ran into the room. "Tammy?! Tommy?!"
The two were in a cage on the table. Tommy was crying a Tammy held him. The girl looked up, crying still.
"Daddy!"
Rowan choked back a sob as he tore open the door of the cage and pulled out Tammy and Tommy, holding them so close to himself. He never wanted to let them out of his sight again. "Are you guys okay? I-I'm so sorry this happened, babies…"
Matthew hurried to Rowan's side, quickly wrapping them all up in his arms and wings. Timmy was crying still, sliding down to hug his siblings tightly.
"Let's get them back to the hotel…" Rowan sighed weakly and huddled up in Matthew's arms, his adrenaline starting to wear off.
Matthew gathered Rowan up securely in his arms. He looked around a moment, spotting Fluff in another cage. He quickly got him out, holding all of them close as he turned and hurried out.
"I've got you…"
Rowan buried his face in Matthew's chest, holding the chicks close to himself. "We're not paying that fucking sitter…" He whispered shakily.
"No, we aren't…" Matthew carefully made his way back to the hotel, holding them all to his chest. Tammy and Tommy were both shaking violently, Tommy clutching Rowan's shirt in his fists. Tammy was still crying softly from the stress, and Timmy was sitting there, still shocked.
Rowan gently pet the birds' heads, trying to comfort them and himself. "I wish they could talk so they could tell us what happened…" He sighed softly. "Do you guys have police here?"
"No, no we don't… Things like this doesn't happen." Matthew got everyone back into the hotel, sitting down in the nest bed with Rowan in his lap. The three chicks didn't really change what they were doing.
"D-daddy…" Tammy said again softly. She leaned into Rowan's finger, crying even more. She wanted to help, but she didn't know how.
"I know, baby…" Rowan held the birds closer and sighed. "Well, is there anyone we can tell? We can't just ignore this. This is illegal where I'm from, you know."
"Ah… There aren't really any laws against things like this…" Maybe closed his eyes a moment, pulling Rowan closer.
Rowan huffed a bit. "Why not? What are there laws against? I don't want this to ever happen again."
"Not killing anyone without explicit permission," Matthew said softly.
"That's pretty much it."
"Explicit permission?? God we gotta get some police in this place… we need some authority so that kidnapping isn't allowed."
"We… We don't see any need to protect against things like this, because it just d-doesn't happen…" Matthew was obviously shaken up by this.
