Rowan held Tammy close and sighed. "Do you get it now? You're gonna have somebody with you, but we aren't gonna be here. It'll be somebody else."
Rowan held Tammy close and sighed. "Do you get it now? You're gonna have somebody with you, but we aren't gonna be here. It'll be somebody else."
Tammy nodded a bit. She leaned into Rowan's hand, wrapping her arms around his finger. It seemed she didn't want to leave him.
"I know, baby… I'm sure we won't be gone long, okay?" Rowan gently kissed the top of Tammy's head.
Tammy looked up, letting out a soft chirp. She stayed curled up close to Rowan's hand, nuzzling against him.
Rowan smiled weakly as he pet Tammy. "You take care of your brothers, okay?"
Tammy nodded a bit, leaning into the petting. She purred softly, a sweet little sound.
"With luck, you guys will sleep most of the time we're gone… I really hate to leave you." Rowan sighed. "But I promise we'll be back."
Tammy looked up, nodding in agreeance. In a moment, she motioned to her mouth.
"Are you hungry?" Rowan asked softly. "Matthew? Could you fetch the grubs, please?"
Matthew nodded.
"Okay!" He stood, gently sat Rowan down, looking through the bags for the chicks' food bag. Tammy grinned, hugging Rowan's finger at the promise of food.
"We'll feed you as soon as he grabs the worms, baby." Rowan smiled gently down at Tammy.
Tammy cooed a bit, bouncing a bit. Matthew came back, sitting next to Rowan and offering him a dead grub.
Rowan tentatively accepted the grub and held it out to Tammy. "Here you go, love… I hope y'all can eat real food soon."
Tammy accepted the grub happily, tearing into it. Matthew smiled softly.
"Adorable," he said softly.
"Is there anything else they can eat at this age?" Rowan asked tiredly. "Grubs are gross…"
"Well, they can eat other insects," Matthew said. "And a little bread, but not much. Just little treats."
"Mm… I like bugs even less than the worms." Rowan sighed. "Why can't they just eat dog food or something?"
Matthew shook his head.
"Too harsh on them at the moment."
"Mm…" Rowan sighed again and huddled up against Matthew. "Should we feed the others too?"
"We should," Matthew agreed. He reached over, gently nudging them awake. Tammy helped, scrambling into the nest and shaking them to wake them up.
Rowan gently pet the chicks as he hummed softly to them. "Time to wake up, darlings… ready to eat?"
Timmy and Tommy looked up, snuggled close together. Timmy nodded a bit. Matthew chuckled softly.
"So cute," he said softly.
Rowan smiled a bit as well and handed the chicks their grubs. "Yeah, they are… I really hope they'll be alright while we're getting my things."
"I'm sure they will be," Matthew said softly. The two boys grabbed their food, still sleepy as they ate.
Rowan nodded and pet all three chicks when they were finished eating. "You guys will be good while we're gone, right?"
