Rowan kept the nest close to himself so that the chicks would be safe, continuing to look around. "It's… kinda like New York?"
Rowan kept the nest close to himself so that the chicks would be safe, continuing to look around. "It's… kinda like New York?"
"Oh, really? I see…" Matthew smiled softly as Rowan held the chicks closer. He did the same to Rowan himself, playing with his hair lightly.
"Should we rent a room, or go to a mage first to find a way to your world?"
"Mm… it's kinda late. We should probably get a room and then go to my world tomorrow to get my things."
"Okay then!" Matthew smiled, heading towards the inn he'd stayed in before. It was weaved together, just like the ones back in the village. Thankfully, this one was on the ground.
Rowan sighed softly in relief when he noticed that the hotel wasn't suspended in the air. "How much does a room cost?" He asked.
"It should be two or three gold pieces," Matthew explained. "For a one bed room." He stepped in, humming softly.
"Hello!" He said chiperly to the attendant behind the counter.
"Right… I don't know how that translates to dollars." Rowan sighed softly and huddled a little closer to Matthew as he looked up at the attendant.
"It's pretty cheap," Matthe admitted to Rowan, turning his attention back to the woman. The attendant looked up at Matthew and Rowan, smiling.
"Hello, sir! Would you like a room for you and your pet?"
Rowan flushed red at the way the attendant referred to him and looked away shyly, too nervous to try and correct her.
Matthew blushed faintly as well shaking his head a bit.
"Yes, I would like a room for my friend and I," he corrected gently.
"Oh! I'm so sorry!"
"D-Don't worry about it, miss." Rowan replied with a shaky smile, huddling a little closer to Matthew with his face still very red.
The attendant fumbled a bit, pulling out a key.
"Here," she said, handing it over. Matthew pulled out his money bag, placing the gold pieces on the counter. The attendant was blushing in embarrassment. Matthew held Rowan close, nodding to the woman once before leaving.
Once Rowan and Matthew were in their room, Rowan exhaled shakily. "S-So… why did she think I was your pet…?"
"I… think it was because of how I'm holding you," Matthew admitted. "You also don't look like any species that's usually seen as people." Matthew sat down with Rowan on a chair, wings going around them.
"Oh…" Rowan tucked his head under Matthew's chin and huddled close. "And I guess I'm a lot smaller than most people here, huh?"
"Very." Matthew offered a weak smile, trying to joke a bit. "It makes you look adorable." Matthew ran his fingers up and down Rowan's back lightly.
Rowan flushed and buried his face in Matthew's chest, laughing weakly. "I-I guess… has a human ever been here before?"
"Not that I've ever heard." Matthew put his hand on Rowan's head, holding him close with a faint chuckle. If one ever had… well, their fate depended on who found them. Hopefully not a Hunter…
"Mm… hopefully they don't whisk me away to run tests on me or anything." Rowan laughed weakly.
"Hopefully! I wouldn't let them, of course. They wouldn't get to you without a fight." Matthew smiled slightly, chuckling.
"Thanks, Matthew…" Rowan huddled closer to Matthew and sighed. "Will they be okay with me working and living here?"
"Yes, I'm sure everyone will be." Matthew smiled softly, his arms going securely around Rowan's torso, playing with the ends of his hair.
Rowan hummed happily as he leaned into Matthew's hand, closing his eyes as he tried to relax.
Matthew held Rowan close, humming softly. He did his best to help Rowan calm down.
"Are the chicks doing okay?" Rowan asked softly. "Did they get in here alright?"
