"So, ah, I saw Vex at work today." Davin said slowly, taking off his cloak and looking over at Tohru. "He said he didn't know anything about meeting up with you." he took a deep breath.
"So, ah, I saw Vex at work today." Davin said slowly, taking off his cloak and looking over at Tohru. "He said he didn't know anything about meeting up with you." he took a deep breath.
Tohru almost panicked at first. He exhaled slowly, trying to think of how to cover his own ass.
"I lied," he said, "I- I actually went out to get you something. Let me go grab it."
He went back into the bedroom to get the garment he bought for Davin. Tohru held it up and passed it over.
"I hope you like it alright. I thought the hood on it might work well for you."
He hoped the excuse was good enough. And if it wasn't, maybe the gift would distract Davin from that fact.
Davin studied him, then the garment Tohru had handed to him. "Oh. I…" he trailed off, taking a deep breath. "It's lovely, Tohru. But, please don't lie to me. Just say you're going out. There's no reason to tell me it is with Vex if it is not with him."
"Yeah, in hindsight, I probably could've just said that," Tohru replied with a laugh, rubbing the back of his neck.
"I'm sorry. I won't make a habit of it."
He nodded a little bit. "Thank you." he said softly, still carefully holding the garment. "And thank you for this, as well. It was thoughtful of you."
"You're welcome," Tohru replied with a slight smile, "I just wanted to get you something. Kind of just because, I guess."
He could feel heat rising into his cheeks and a slight fluttering in his stomach.
He gave Tohru a soft, slightly tired smile. "Yeah. It really was thoughtful of you." he ran a hand through his hair, unsure what else to say.
Tohru sank down into the couch, continuing on his drawing.
"So, how was work? Do you think it's all going to work out well for you?" he asked.
Davin sat down, letting out a soft breath. "It was fine." he said softly. "It's just a bit exhausting. But it's fine."
"As work tends to be," Tohru agreed with a laugh, "But fine is… good, I guess? As long as things aren't bad? Plus, I'm sure once you're fully trained, it'll be much easier."
Tohru put down his device for a moment.
"Yeah. Plus money." he said, smiling a little bit. "That way we can pay rent easily enough."
"Money is nice," Tohru agreed, "Rent, maybe treat ourselves here and there. Life will be good."
He rubbed the back of his neck.
"Listen, the bar kinda sucks. The other staff are nice, the clientele is rowdy. But I swear drunk people tip better."
"It'll be great." Davin agreed. He raised his eyebrows faintly as he listende, and nodded. "I bet they do."
(Do you want to skip ahead to something soon, maybe? Or do you have any additional plot ideas?)
(we can skip, yeah. i don't really have any ideas currently)
(Okay, want to skip ahead to basically how Davin ends up finding out about Tohru's little uh… "side hustle"? I'm thinking maybe he goes to do his job, accidentally leaving his device at home and open on information about the target? And he's injured pretty substantially on the job or something and calls on Davin for help?)
(sure! that would work!)
(Great, I can start, if that's alright?)
(yeah sure!)
Tohru packed up his things and prepared to go to "work." What Davin didn't know is that he was hiding various weapons on his person, about to hunt down another person from the cartel that his last target worked for. It had been at least a week since that incident, and he was ready for a new, tougher job.
"I'm about to leave," Tohru said to Davin with a nod, "Need anything while I'm out?"
Davin looked up from his book, and shook his head a little bit. "No, I don't think so. Thanks for offering, though." he replied, shifting in his seat. "Have fun with whatever you're doing, though." he smiled softly at Tohru.
"Just work, might go out on the town for a bit," Tohru replied softly.
He left home to meet his target, not realizing he'd left his device on the dresser, open on his accepted bounty.
Tohru lurked around the apartment complex he knew his target lived at, looking for a way in. The man didn't seem to be home, so he decided he would lie in wait to attack.
Davin nodded a little, locking the door once Tohru had left. He could unlock it again when Tohru came back. He went back to his seat, realizing that Tohru had left the device behind, but not looking at it quite yet.
Tohru walked around the back of the apartments, trying to figure out which one belonged to his target. It was on the bottom floor. When he peered in, he saw that it was dark inside and started to work at getting the window open. He used a small tool to cut into the glass and quietly make his way in. Tohru still thought he was alone and went back to the bathroom to hide until the bounty arrived.
As he rounded the corner, he saw the faint glow of candles- something that shouldn't have been left on if no one was home.
Before Tohru had the time to draw back a bit and reconsider things, he was left standing face-to-face with his target. He didn't even take his target by surprise.
Davin sighed faintly, getting up to go to the bathroom, and in the process coming close to the dresser with Tohru's tablet. His gaze fell on the tablet, and he inhaled softly, eyes widening a bit. That was bounty hunting information. Had Tohru gone bounty hunting again?
