He shook his head a little bit. "I…it's nice having someone else to travel with." he said softly. "Even if…well. Do you want something to drink?"
He shook his head a little bit. "I…it's nice having someone else to travel with." he said softly. "Even if…well. Do you want something to drink?"
Tohru nodded slightly. "J-just some water, please," he replied.
He glanced away. "You're right. It is pretty nice. It'd be better if I tried to keep it that way, for your sake."
He nodded a little, getting up and bringing Tohru a glass of water. "Alright. Can you drink it yourself, or shall I hold it for you?" he asked.
Tohru’s mouth pulled into a frowned.
"I think I need help," he said quickly but also reluctantly.
"There's pain shooting up my right arm, and my other is just too weak."
He nodded again, carefully lifting the glass to Tohru's lips so that he could drink from it. "There we are, Tohru."
Tohru's lips quivered slightly as they pressed over the rim of the cup. He took a few sips, trying to gauge how his body felt before drinking anymore. After he figured he was alright to continue, he drank a little more.
"Thank you so much. I-I don't deserve you."
Davin set the cup aside when Tohru was done. "Maybe not." he replied, shrugging a shoulder.
Wait, what is that supposed to mean?
Tohru leaned back his head again.
"I at least made some good coin from the last few bounties," he sighed, "It'll be enough to help pay rent until I can work again."
He held his left hand to the wound on his right as he rode out another more intense wave of pain.
"I don't want this to happen again. I thought I was going to die in your arms, and it felt so shitty. Not the dying part. You. Putting you through all that."
He had to stop, as he was suddenly very winded again.
Dvin shrugged again, sitting down in the chair and taking a deep breath. "Yeah. You scared me pretty fucking bad, Tohru." he said.
"I… yeah… I know…" Tohru sighed.
He weakly reached back, trying to pull the hair tie from his bun, which was already falling down the back of his neck. After some fighting, he pulled it free and his black hair fell down his shoulders. It was tangled and caked with blood- desperately needed to be washed. Yet, he couldn't manage that right now no matter how hard he tried.
"Still… I just… kinetic guns are outlawed in most parts of this system. I'm almost certain they are here. I guess you can't predict criminals, but it still blindsided me. I'm so lucky you got there in time."
Tohru squeezed his eyes shut.
"Gods, I'm getting tired again," he murmured, frustration evident in his voice, "I lost way too much blood."
He shivered slightly, then made a move to pull the blankets further over his body. Even this slight movement was a bit too much. Tohru winced as he reached for the blanket in his lap.
"Imagine a criminal not following the law." Davin said dryly, then leaned forward to pull the blankets over Tohru. "Get some sleep, okay?"
Tohru sighed softly.
"I just meant- never mind…"
He sank down into the blankets, already starting to drift back into sleep. The sleep would be terrible that night, but he would at least make it.
Davin watched Tohru quietly as the young man fell asleep, sighing softly. This had all been so stressful.
Tohru woke up several times during the night, gasping in pain. He had to quiet himself as soon as he fully realized what was going on.
Davin eventually dozed off in the chair, not wanting to disturb Tohru by climbing in beside him on the bed.
Around dawn, Tohru woke up and couldn't go back to sleep. He let out a few pained exhales, trying to keep himself from crying out. He tried to push himself to where he was sitting up, but his arms were weak, and a jolt of pain passed through his body. He laid still again. Tohru turned his head to see Davin wasn't next to him, but on a chair. He would've been perfectly fine had Davin joined him in bed. In fact, he craved the other's presence next to him as he endured the pain.
Davin's chin was resting on his chest, his arms crossed loosely over his body, soft exhales leaving his mouth with each breath. His hair hung loose in a ponytail, a few stray curls falling around his face. His tail was wound around his ankles.
"D-Davin?" Tohru croaked.
His voice was barely audible at all, the words practically tearing from the inside of his throat. Now that he was fully awake and alert, he realized that everything hurt way worse than last night. Almost every inch of his body was sore, he could barely move, he was so thirsty, he probably needed to use the bathroom. It was all a big fucking disaster.
He shifted faintly, but didn't quite wake up, the faint sound of Tohru's voice not quite enough to disturb his slumber. He did look rather uncomfortable, and his neck would probbaly hurt when he awoke.
Tohru remembered suddenly that he'd never sent in the confirmation of his kill last night.
"Shit," he murmured, scanning the room for his device. It was up on the dresser. Would Davin still say he needed to rest?
Tohru ultimately decided to go get it himself. With as much effort as he could muster, he pushed himself out of bed and onto wobbly legs.
The world seemed to be spinning around him when he first stood up. An intense head rush made him go rigidly still, as he didn't want to pass out the second he got to his feet.
Once he gathered up the strength, Tohru walked over to the dresser, whole body shaking. He quickly went through the process of reporting, his hand trembling as he tapped the screen.
Tohru then went to message his boss, Vex, and Kira about what happened. He stayed more vague talking to his boss, but told Vex and Kira some of the finer details in confidence. He stood hunched over the dresser, trembling and too tired to make the walk back to the bed just yet.
Davin continued to sleep, shifting a little bit on the chair.
Once Tohru managed to send those messages, he started towards the bathroom, carefully using whatever walls and furniture he could to help support his weight. And he made it at first. He was able to use the toilet and get himself to the sink. Yet, while he was washing his hands, he started to feel a bit more faint. His brain felt fuzzy, and vision started to go dim again.
His body finally gave out under him. Tohru grabbed at whatever he could to stay upright. He knocked a few bottles off the counter, and the shower curtain and rod came tumbling down when he grabbed at them. Everything came down with a big crash that would likely wake Davin.
Tohru curled in on himself, gasping in pain as he laid on the bathroom floor. He was just damn lucky that he didn't get hurt worse.
Davin startled awake at the sound, getting to his feet quickly. He looked at the bed first, and, upon seeing it was empty, headed over to the bathroom, knocking on the door, and then decided to hell with it. He opened the door, and spotted Tohru on the floor. He crouched beside him, still blinking sleep from his eyes. "Tohru, what happened?"
Tohru tried to push himself up, but only went back down, hissing with pain and clutching at his injury. He was out of breath.
"I was just- just trying to go to the bathroom…" he murmured, "I-I-I'm alright, though. I just started to feel faint. I didn't think-"
Davin sighed faintly. "It's…I'll carry you back to bed." he replied. He bent and scooped Tohru up as best he could, doing his best to be careful.
