“Huh? Oh, it’s fine, but we have to get back before someone finds out!” he panicked. He blushed as well, standing and running his hand through his hair.

Cas nodded and got to his feet, grabbing Nick's hand as he bolted along the path. He seemed incredibly anxious, figuring his father would be furious.
Nick ran too, trying to get there as soon as possible. He really didn’t want anything to happen to Cas.
Cas reached his quarters and slipped inside, waving to Nick. "See you tonight!" He whispered and was gone.
Nick stared off in the direction Cas had gone for a moment before hurrying off to his own quarters.

(Yep)
Cas showed up to the meeting later that day and was eerily silent. He nodded to Nick as a greeting as he sat beside him, but made no effort to start a conversation.
Nick wondered if everything was okay. Had he scared Cas off? Or was he simply trying not to draw the attention of his father? Either way, it made Nick anxious. “Hi,” he said softly.
"H-Hi…" Cas whispered shakily, glancing over at his father to make sure he wasn't watching.
So it was because of his father. Nick wanted to keep talking, but didn’t want to risk Cas’s father noticing. He glanced at his father, making sure he wasn’t looking, before looking back at Cas and asking,”Would you rather we don’t talk right now?”
Cas just nodded thankfully and stared down at his neatly folded hands in his lap. The top of a bruise was barely visible below his collar when he shifted.
Nick flinched at the sight of the bruise and it was all he could do not to stand up and go punch Cas’s father’s lights out. He hit Cas’s foot lightly with his own, thinking maybe they could communicate that way, or at least he could let the other boy know that he was there for him.
Cas glanced over at him, but stayed silent. He tugged his collar up in what he hoped was casual looking so he could hide the bruise. The meeting droned on as usual.
It physically pained Nick to see him like this, and he silently devised a list of things he would do to Cas’s father if it wouldn’t get him sent away at best and executed at worst.

Once the meeting was dismissed, Cas stood up shakily and made his way out of the room. He went off into a side hallway and sat down, drawing his knees up to his chest. He hugged them weakly and stared down at the floor with a distant expression.
Nick left slowly, wandering around to try and find Cas. He didn’t want to leave until he was sure that Cas was okay. Though he clearly wasn’t. He found him after a few minutes. “Cas!” he cried, hurrying over to him and sitting next to him.
"Hey…" Cas said tiredly, not looking up when Nick came over. He just hugged his knees tighter. "How… h-how's it going?"
“Cas, is that bruise on your collarbone new?” Nick asked, trying to be gentle. He didn’t want to pretend everything was fine. He couldn’t pretend anything was fine any more, not after last night.
Cas hesitated before tentatively nodding. He stayed silent for now and still couldn't make eye contact with Nick. He couldn't bear to see the expression on the other's face.
He moved a tiny bit closer to Cas, concern written all over his face. “I wish I could do more than just talk to you about the aftermath,” he sighed, his heart aching.
"I dunno…" Cas whispered. "I don't feel very safe anymore…" He glanced up at Nick, seeming nervous.
“Is there anything I can do?” Nick asked. “What if you stayed with someone else?”
"Who would I stay with? I haven't any friends, considering I'm not really allowed to leave home much, and even if I did, we're away from home." Cas sighed and ran his fingers through his hair.
“You have me,” Nick responded quietly. “I’d take you in; Jane and I could make sure that no one finds out.”
"How would your dad not notice the son of his enemy living there?" Cas asked, although he seemed a bit hopeful.
“I sneak out all the time, and he doesn’t notice,” Nick replied. “I don’t think he’d notice if we waltzed in, announcing to the world you’re staying there. He only has time for three things: his kingdom, his alcohol, and his daughter. He never pays attention to anything I do unless someone forces him to. The real question is can we avoid any nobles seeing.”
