mutters about delicate American sensibilities

I Honestly forgot how different country’s right I was just upset that in my mind she’s underage

What does this mean? Also, Dom is American

@Consider-PB_and_the_Jellies

Oh jeez you think all couples should be the same age?

Well I guess it’s in different states then, but the age of consent where I live in America is 18 so an 18 year old can’t date a 16 year old also I didn’t say they had to be the same age

@ElderGod-Icefire

Age of consent doesn't have to do with dating?? Just sex?? I thought??

I might be wrong

As far as I know, it's legal for 16 year olds to date 18 year olds, it just isn't legal for them to have sex together

Yeah I'm American. It's just that so many Americans have this "Oh! This is so icky!" reaction to so many things that I don't see how they make sense. Like an age difference of two years. My parents are more than that. I even know a quite happy couple who have been married for some time where the wife is eight years senior. Once again, Americans have such delicate (and odd) sensibilities. (Except when they don't and it's a kink now.)

I think it's a bit different when they're both teens though. Not to mention that Four was in a position of power over Tris, since he was essentially her teacher.

When their romance started, they were in drastically different places in life. Really the only thing they had in common was the divergent abnegation to dauntless thing. do y'all remember the part in the first one where he was drunk or is that just me

Well the younger they are, the more the age gap is. I think two years is fine if the female is at least fourteen. (Though such a relationship would be stupidity.) Then as they got older, the age gap of a year would matter less and less. But honestly who are we to judge. If someone is over twenty they should be able to date someone fifteen years older than them if they so wish. Not wise imo, but we shouldn't stop them.
But yeah on the authority bit.

Okay so I look at it as life percentage… a two year age gap in college is nothing, but I’m 20 years old, so I can say that at 18, I was MUCH more mature than at 16 when such a difference doesn’t exist between me and a 22-year-old. So even from a dating standpoint there is a sizable difference in maturity when one person is still a teenager (and even beyond). And it’s also about power, like Jynnie said. This power can come through money, leadership position, or life experience. I’m uncomfortable with an 18-year-old and a 25-year old dating too. Same age gap as my parents. But they married at 29 and 30-something. An 18-year-old still has a lot of more child-like qualities, as they have not completed all development, nor have they fully experienced adulthood.

That was an uncomfortable scene.

Wait remind me?

iirc, he got drunk and started flirting with Tris. But I'm not sure.

yes. It was very uncomfy

Yeah I'd say you and I mostly agree. At least in theory.
