All around the campfire was silent tonight. Chris watching the flames with a look unreadable, Roshiel laying with his back turned to them, Taca laying on her back staring at the stars. And Tonakee, sitting by herself, on a rock, humming a tune that she had learned from her brother, to quiet for anyone to hear.

The girl screamed, the sound barely audible among the battle that raged in what used to the lobby of the school. She cradled the boy's head on her lap, sobbing. A spear had stabbed through his shoulder and the point came out just below his ribs.

Jackie suddenly recognized them. They were siblings, Southies, they both got good grades, they were nice kids. He was much younger than her, from class three. She was the year below Jackie in class nine.

The girl pulled the small body closer, hugging him to her chest. He was alive, but barely. Life hanging on by a thread.

"If you don't get off me right now, I will turn into a dwarf-eating tarantula."

"Oh, I don't lie. I simply say I plan to do something, make it seem absolute that that is my plan, CONFIRM to you that that is my plan, and then? I go and do the exact opposite." Ethan grinned at his furious roommates. Sure, worst time for a quip, but then again they had chosen to live with Ethan so this was technically their mess too.

Okay so the last few lines that I wrote was this:

“I’m sorry mom you have to be leave you like this without one last hug. I’m sorry Clay and Jaguar that I didn’t even say goodbye when I first left, I’m sorry dad that I never forgave you.

Im sorry Ember that I never said that I loved you”

"Hey hot stuff."
He rolled his eyes then set the ground between them on fire. "You seem pretty chill."
"Oh believe me I am." He replied and froze the fire resulting in it extinguishing.

"I went to see her about once a month, maybe twice if Mom was especially concerned, and I spent most of my time with her staring at a spot on the carpet pretending to zone out as she tried to think of what to say next. And that was fine."
'She' is the OC's therapist, for context lol

Stubbornly, the members of the Oru remained standing and she gently touched each of their shoulders as she passed them, a loving and thankful pat, that had the soldiers standing taller despite the tears that tracked down their faces.

I let her words sink in and it feels as if they hit me in slow motion. That weird feeling in my chest that I had felt while playing my violin comes back full force as I realize this is what I want.

I want to stay, too.

"We lost Daniel, Kyoko," she looked at Vicente and her heart froze.
"How?"
He shrugged. "He got hungry and went to a Dellian market to get food. We just don't know which one, though."

Her face was a small fire. Though contained for now, it threatened to spill over and grow out of control, wreaking havoc on everything that came across her destructive path.

"Tora?" Vanya's voice called from behind me. My steps slowed to a stop and I closed my eyes for a moment before turning. Whatever she was going to say now was going to further destroy the fragile relationship between us. No longer was she my enemy. But no longer was she truly a friend. Vanya, like the other Praetors, would never bow to another master. We Natura had lost the privilege.
"Yes?" I asked quietly, watching the woman warily. She was still facing the widow, tea cup raised to her lips. There was a light dancing along her skin, but I was unsure if it was her power giving her that unearthly glow or the sun. One never really knew with her.
Vanya was still looking away as she spoke, her voice deadly calm in the sudden stillness of the room. "If you ever raise a hand to Aedin again, it will be your death." She turned to me then, eyes hard and unforgiving. I froze, she had seen me then, that wild look in her eyes after she had saved Isa had not been her losing control, but rather had been her attempt to keep herself in check. She had almost killed me that day…and no one would have been able to stop her.

"I'm gonna try and get you to the barn."
"Try?" Taca took a step back and looked at him. "We are surrounded by enemies, we're going to have to fight in order to get there."
"I haven't fought since I left the ninja."

Part of him hated doing this, but another twisted part, the part he’d struggled for so long to bury or kill, rejoiced to have once more joined the cause he’d been made to serve.
