Heard Leslie Odom jr was in that abd terrible which nakes me sad.

Bruh his whole character is just "wise black man who helps our protagonist and did I mention that he's wise?"
Total disservice to him, he's a super talented actor and Sia has him playing yet another stereotype
Insert clown emoji here, I don't have emojis

You can tell I was typing on my phone.

Not gonna lie, I spent an embarrassing amount of time trying to remember if "abd" is some abbreviation I'm not familiar with

@AutoGrim

So my question is. Should Crimea, the place I have been talking about, be apart of Ukraine, or Russia? Or possibly another solution is possible?

I’m a bit late here but I think it should be Russian.

@someone_who_occasionally_writes_

Ok, so someone asked me if I would accept Neopronouns as a valid way of addressing someone, and I respectfully said no.
I have my own opinions, and I am willing to share them however, does anyone here have any opinions on this matter?
Am I wrong for saying that I don't accept them as valid?

@croccin-champagne

why do you get to decide which pronouns are and aren't valid? just because you wouldn't use them doesnt mean you get to say 'I won't respect them coming from anyone'

@berlioz

All language is complete bullshit, so I think disregarding some of it but respecting other bits of it is kind of silly. I do think you're wrong for not seeing them as valid, but I understand your hesitancy. What's your reasoning for not accepting them?

@someone_who_occasionally_writes_

I understand that gender is social, I get that, like they/them, he/him and whatever, like i respect that, but kitten/kittenself? Xiao/xiaoself? Mint/mintself? Like, I dont get it.
And maybe I'm wrong, that's why I'm asking.

@HighPockets group

Wow, ever consider that maybe other people's pronouns don't need to be things that you're "comfortable" with? Because they have nothing to do with you?

@someone_who_occasionally_writes_

I understand not having a gender, because gender is built around social ideas and such. So they/them fits that, but how can someone feel as if they are mint? Or kitten? Or xiao? They aren't like, you can't embody an animal or an object or a completley made up word. Gender is what you feel like you are. If you identify as male, you feel as if you are male, and if you feel as if you don't fit into any category of "gender", you feel lik you don't have a gender, you use pronouns that don't have a gender.
You feel what your gender is.

How can one feel they are kitten?

@someone_who_occasionally_writes_

I didn't try to be rude guys, I have accepted that I could be wrong, and I came asking for other perspectives to get educated.

This is merely my opinion, and this forum is to discuss other views and maybe even correct wrong views, that is simply what I'm doing, no need to be rude.

@Mojack group

Coming from someone who does have a set of neopronouns (though I don’t often use them or even tell people I have them just because of the air around them) maybe I can offer a different look on this situation..

Well, you said gender is what you feel. Neopronouns/xenogender users don’t feel that they’re cats. It’s hard to explain, but neurodivergent (and not all people, of course) people generally tend to have a bit of a different relationship with gender, though this isn’t the reason for all neopronoun users. Using them may just make them more comfortable.
https://neopronoun.carrd.co/#index Here’s a carrd that explains things pretty nicely.

@someone_who_occasionally_writes_

Thanks for that valuable insight. That really helps me to understand more of how people who use neopronouns think and feel. I appreciate your response and it completely and totally helped to sway my views and opinions in the other direction. Thank you from the bottom of my heart. Without that valuable information, I would still be uneducated.

I totally am not even more against it because of your hostility and unwillingness to try and help me understand, even though I clearly asked to learn because I know I am uneducated in this subject.

So thank you

@berlioz

I don't know anyone who uses those neopronouns (I've only ever seen xe/xem and ze/hir), but my understanding is that people use obscure words and pronouns like that to describe their gender because it's the closest they can get to their actual gender. I don't think they think they actually embody kittens or mint, rather they see their gender as cool like mint. Mint is just the closest thing they can see that represents how their gender feels. And gender is whacky so I don't blame them.

Thank you, I will read over this. I see that I'm wrong, thank you for being mature about it and informing me. I'm sorry if I came off as disrespectful at all.

OHHH, Oml, ok. I completely thought otherwise. I get it now. Thank you

@HighPockets group

Idk if this is really a debate topic as opposed to a discussion topic, but what do y'all think of the decision to pull some Dr. Seuss books from republishing due to racist lines/illustrations?

@someone_who_occasionally_writes_

Ok, ok, I get it now. I was viewing neopronouns as something that they weren't.
I didn't know that they use these pronouns to try and get close to something that is close to their gender, I get it now.
I apologize if I've offended anyone, I was just trying to learn because, as someone who is raised by conservative/Christian parents, I have little to no knowledge about the subject, and I'm always willing to learn

If I ever come off as rude or disrespectful I deeply apologize. As someone who dwells in the lgtbq+ community, I never want to be disrespectful to who is in it as well. If anything I say is false, please let me know in the future.

Thank you to those who respectfully explained to me how I was wrong, I appreciate it.

@croccin-champagne

aayyy mojack coming in with the resources none of us have lol

personally, i dont use neopronouns nor do i have them, so im not qualified to speak on a lot of what makes them valid or not, im just of the opinion that it doesnt matter if i dont get it, because they arent harming anyone and the people using them do get it and are comfortable using them, and that's what's important to me. thats what i tell my dad every time he does the 'i just dont get being nonbinary', and then he really doesnt have much else to say because he doesnt know how to argue that

Um.
Why is it our job to educate you? It was really really cool of Mojack and Owen to explain that to you, but they didn't have to. Google is in fact free, and you can do your own research. This is a chat for having debates, not for asking people to educate you. I'm really not trying to be rude, but it struck me as really weird that you were mad that someone didn't want to educate you and didn't want to tell you why you should just respect other people. You don't have to understand something to respect it. I'm glad that you understand and you grasp the concept now, but that's not our jobs.

Google can only do so much. I looked it up but was still confused. Google is a computer, you guys are humans. After looking into it on my own I was still confused, I didn't understand it so I came to a place where I thought people could help me understand it a little better.
I assumed that people could help me out rather than calling me a dick.
I was genuinely confused, and came out and said that I was wrong. I even came out and said that I was poorly educated and was asking for help.

People helped me out and it's cleared up now. I'm sorry that I caused such a fuss. I did what any other human should do in this situation, I asked for help. And if someone calling me a dick for that is ok, then I'm sorry.

I don't see why you're even pressed in the first place? I came with a conflicting opinion, in the debate chat thinking I was right, and I got proved wrong because I was miseducated. I even said I was uneducated.
Then, shortly after getting a mature response, I saw that I was indeed wrong and apologized several times..

And I never said "It's your job to educate me"
I retaliated because I came with a question and got called a dick for it.

You would too if you were confused with something, asked a question, and got treated like that.
