Alex walked over to her tilting his head at the painting. There was a woman dressed in pink robes that looked a lot like Allura, a man with a beard standing next to her with his hand on her back. In the woman's arms, was a baby Allura.
"That's gotta be Allura's mom. Looks just like her." Cammy said quietly, twisting little braids into her hair as she studied the painting. "I wonder if all Alteans were gorgeous as hell." She fell quiet for a moment, her eyes on the man in the painting.
Alex rolled his eyes, "Is that all you think about? Good looking people… well… aliens now I guess."
"It's the first thing anyone ever notices, is your looks." Cammy said with a shrug, stepping a bit closer to look at the painting. "That's where the first impression's at. Besides, you can't look at this and tell me they aren't good looking. Well, baby Allura in a different way, because calling a baby good-looking would be weird and creepy."
“You’re not wrong there… fine, they’re good looking, but I suppose if you’re the poster family for your race you want to make an impression.”
"Oh, good point. You think that's why royals and government officials are always dressed hella nice?" She asked, raising an eyebrow at him as she looked away from the painting. They were standing just a tiny bit too close, though she didn't seem to notice it.
Alex shrugged a shoulder, slipping a hand into his pocket, "Probably. I mean, they have to make an impression, don't they? So if they don't dress nicely then that'll impact they're job and stuff."
"Society's so concerned with looks and appearances, huh?" Cammy joked, bumping him with her shoulder. Though her words were light, they almost seemed to carry a double meaning. "Wonder if it's like that all over the universe."
Alex rubbed at the back of his neck with a sigh, staring up at the painting before looking away, “Yeah. Hopefully some society out there doesn’t care too much out the way they looked. Now that we know how much life is out there… it’s possible.”
"We'll just have to find out then." Cammy decided, her lips turning up into a grin. "God, think of all the different people and species we'll meet, all the things we get to see and do. Like one big immersive research project, if you want to think about it all science-y."
Alex just shrugged and moved deeper into the room, "Sure… I guess that's one way to think of it."
"I like it. Makes it sound like we're doing something important, when we aren't, y'know, saving the universe." Cammy shook her head, splitting off to look at a sword hung on the wall.
"Okay, you make a fair point. But why don't we just leave all the sciency… smart stuff to Pidge? Isn't that his thing?"
"Yeah, it is. But rooming with Pidge means you pick shit up. I've been tainted." She shuddered dramatically, though a small voice in her mind repeated Alex's words mockingly.
"If you say so," Alex held his hands up in defense and dropped the subject. He didn't feel like having a real argument.
Cammy returned to fiddling with her hair, eventually pulling it up into a messy sort-of bun to keep it out of the way as her attention was drawn to a suit of armor slightly more basic than the ones they had gotten. "I wonder…" She muttered to herself, just loud enough for Alex to hear if he wasn't absorbed in something.
Alex looked towards where Cammy was, tilting his head to the side, "What?"
"Huh?" Cammy blinked, turning slightly to look at him in confusion, before it dawned on her that she'd spoken aloud. "Oh, uh, I was just thinking. Well, wondering. Would this whole paladin thing place us above or below knights? Or would we be considered knights? Can princesses knight people? Is Allura even still a princess, considering….you know? Or would that make her a queen?"
Alex shrugged, walking over to Cammy, "Well… I feel like paladin's would be above knights, considering they have a more important roll… and I think as Allura is… well basically a queen since there's no one above her she could knight people."
"Thought so." Cammy said, nodding. It was sort of nice, having someone actually give her their thoughts about the questions she asked. Pidge tended to just wave her off, and Hunk, she loved him, but he did the same sometimes. "It would make sense. Kinda cool, being above a knight."
Alex smirked a little at the thought and nodded, “Yeah, it would be kinda cool. Well, I guess we could asked Allura and see.”
"We totally could. Y'know, we're like an entire guard already. Last thing close in this castle, and probably on the planet." Cammy mused, looking at him.
Alex nodded a little looking down at her, "Yeah, guess you're right there. I guess the next closet thing to a guard is those robots in the training room."
"Oh, good point. We outrank the robots, right?" Cammy asked, wrinkling her nose and tilting her head as she looked off to the side before looking back up at him.
Alex snorted, a sound one wouldn't expect from someone like him, "Yes, we outrank the robots, Cammy."
