Cammy blinked, looking down from the light fixture she was standing on her toes to reach, at Alex. "I didn't want to distract you or anything." She said, looking slightly confused.
Cammy blinked, looking down from the light fixture she was standing on her toes to reach, at Alex. "I didn't want to distract you or anything." She said, looking slightly confused.
Alex shrugged, "It's only distracting if I'm flying… or we're in battle."
Cammy looked back at the light, a small smile flickering onto her face. "I'll keep that in mind. Humming was something my mom always did when I was growing up, I guess it kinda stuck."
Alex nodded. He never liked the subject of 'family' considering his was a fucked up mess so he didn't know what to say. He swallowed, "What… what's your family like?" He asked quietly.
"Chaotic. Fucked up, but mostly in a good way." Cammy said, returning to slitting about as she cleaned. "Though, that's to be expected, in a house of five boys and two women." She snorted, a fond smile on her face.
Alex smiled a little and nodded, "That's a lot of people… are you close with all of them?"
"My brothers and I have managed to keep in touch best we can." Cammy said, nodding. "We meet up every once in a while, too. We're as close as can be, all things considered."
Alex again nodded, dusting the shade that went over a lamp, "I wish I had a family like yours…" He admitted quietly.
Cammy glanced over at him, tilting her head. "Aren't you getting one now? I mean, with the paladins, you know? That's prime family material right there."
Alex cracked a small smile, "I guess that's true… yeah…"
"Diego used to let me do his nails, way back before he transitioned. I wonder if I could get Hunk to let me paint his." Cammy mused, nudging him with her shoulder as she passed. "Any chance you'd let me do yours?" She was mostly joking.
Alex snorted but he nodded, "Sure… Micky used to paint mine when we were kids…"
Cammy visibly brightened, her eyes lighting up. "Perfect! I think I've got a few bottles in my bag, we'll have to do that sometime!"
Alex offered a smile, "Cool…" He sighed softly, "Micky would have loved you, you're so similar…"
"Sister?" Cammy asked, tilting her head as she offered a small smile. The past tense hadn't escaped her.
"Twin. She was great but we were so different. Mum used to say I was adopted. Michaela was just like her and I wasn't." He shook his head a little.
She nudged him, reverting back to old forms of offering comfort her and her brothers had used with each other. "Well, she sounded great, from the little I've learned."
Alex smiled a little, "Yeah… mum and her were amazing…"
"Tell me about them?" Cammy asked, noting the way he said 'mum'. It was…..kind of cute.
"Well… Micky was crazy, all smiles and laughs. She just kinda did bullocks all and didn't care. Mum… she was the glue that kinda held the family together. Always looked on the positive side.." Alex shook his head slightly, "When they died it was like all the positive energy just… disappeared."
Cammy nodded, tugging a hand through her somewhat braided hair. "I get that." She said, her voice quiet. "Everything just seems a bit dimmer than it used to?"
"Try a lot dimmer…" Alex mumbled, tightening his grip on the duster, "As in spiraling depression dimmer."
"Nothing ever quite looks the same." Cammy muttered, looking off down the hallway. "Guess we had more in common than I thought. Though in a horrible way."
"Yeah… and that's not even half the story…" Alex sighed rubbing at his face with both hands.
"Let's save that for another time." Cammy nudged him with her hip, giving him a small and slightly weak smile. "You got any happy things to talk about?"
