"Hunk! Pigdeon!" Cammy called, her happy and cheerful facade back in the blink of an eye. She turned though, as she passed Alex, shooting him a grateful look, before she was ruffling Pidge's hair.
Alex offered a small smile back to the look Cammy gave him but it was gone quick enough. He greeted Shiro, falling into a comfortable conversation.
Cammy listened to Hunk ramble on about finding the Yellow lion, leaning against Pidge as he fiddled with some gadget. Oddly enough, she found her gaze drifting to Alex a few times, and had to catch herself. Once Hunk had finished his story, she spoke up. "So, what's next?
“Well,” Shiro started, looking from Allura to Alex to her, “Alex and Allura were just explaining the whole Galra situation. Now that we have the whole team, we should try and take the ship down.”
"Are we sure we're ready for that?" Hunk asked, eyebrows knitting together in concern. "Because, Coran and I barely made it off that one planet…"
"Hey, hey, relax." Cammy said, a grin lighting up her face. "We got this, right? Dream team in the works right here."
Shiro nodded at Cammy, "She's right. We can do this. We might not be a perfect team but we're a team nonetheless. We can kick the Galra in the butt and put them back into place."
((Now I'm thinking about the kick ass go to space thing lmao))
"So let's go kick some ass!" Cammy said, high-fiving Pidge. "Also, we really gotta figure out a way to deal with helmet hair."
(ooft)
Alex actually had to bite back a smile at that one, though Shiro and Allura chuckled, "You'll get used to it," The Altean said, "Now go!"
"I don't want to get used to it." Cammy whined jokingly, linking arms with Pidge to tug him along as they left.
"But alas, the universe requires a sacrifice."
Alex sighed, "Stop being so dramatic." He mumbled, earning a small glare from Shiro at the comment.
"Stop being such an ass." Cammy countered, ignoring Hunk, who had opened his mouth to try and stop her.
Alex didn't reply. He looked off to the side, sighing through his nose softly.
Cammy almost regretted the hostile remark she'd made, but shook it off. That was what both of them wanted. Right? You shouldn't even worry, you know the rules. Hunk's pushing it with how close you are, but that's one person. She shoved away her thoughts, and the dark cloud that had crossed her face, hurrying down the hall that she recognized as the way back to Blue.
Alex lingered for a second longer then necessary in the hall once everyone headed to their lions, staring at the way Cammy went. Get yourself together, it's not the worse she's said. He headed to Red, but his mind wasn't completely there.
He's right, though. You are dramatic. Cammy grumbled to herself, ignoring Hunk and Pidge's shared look. She ditched them at a hallway split, and in a few minutes, was relaxing into the pilot seat in Blue. "Hey, gorgeous. You ready to kick ass?"
(When you think of a scene that makes you're heart hurt cries)
Alex hesitated when he made it to Red. He wanted to just turn back and tell everyone they'd be fine without him but he didn't. He sat in the pilots seat and followed Shiro's orders to head towards the ship as fast as they could.
((Oooohh? Do tell?))
Cammy fiddled around with the controls, remembering Alex's connection he'd started. Now, if she could just figure out how to activate that between the other lions, so she didn't feel quite as alone. "Ah ha! Blue Lion to Mission Control, Mission Control, do you read?"
(Okay, so like, what if the team went on a mission and it went horribly wrong. On the way out, Alex saves Cammy and he gets captured while the others get out. Anyway, we skip forward like a couple days and they get a call from the galra and it's Alex being tortured, right? They get all mad and Alex struggles but then boom his dad turns up and flips on Alex. Cammy gets really mad and upset and goes to rescue him, only to find him completely bloodied and broken)
"We hear you Cammy, loud and clear," Shiro's voice was heard through the intercom system, "Can everyone else hear us?"
((Sksksks hOLY SHIT YES???))
"Green Lion chiming in." Came Pidge's voice, playing along with Cammy's theatrics.
"Good here." Hunk said, wincing as Cammy dramatically gasped, and hurrying to cover. "Er-Yellow Lion is on as well? Red Lion?"
(Lmao, Ima make a mental reminder for that for the future)
It took a moment before Alex's voice, maybe slightly softer and quieter came through the speakers, "Red here."
((You gotta))
"Five intrepid pals…" Cammy muttered, slipping into humming once more as they flew. Did Alex sound different? That was crazy, right?
Alex didn't say a word the entire time they flew. He didn't contribute to the plan Shiro was trying to form. They decided to take out the smaller fighter pilots first, and then form Voltron to take out the big ship, if they could.
"Hey, Alex, man, are you alright? Hunk asked over the comms, genuine concern lacing his voice. He wasn't the only one who'd noticed Alex's lack of contribution, but he was the only one who spoke up.
"Fine," Alex replied, though it sounded very forced, "Just focus on the mission."
