Alex released a breath he didn't know he was holding. He followed Cammy, also keeping quiet as they made the trek back to the castle.
Cammy fiddled around with the controls, her curiosity not at all quelled by her sudden shift in mood as things caught up to her. They made it back fine, before the others did, landing just outside the castle.
Alex’s mind was running a million miles an hour. Now that they weren’t being shot at, he had time to think. One, about why the ship felt so familiar and two, how he could understand some of what the Galra were saying. A permanent frown was plastered on his face as he walked out of Red.
Cammy left Blue with her helmet wedged between her hip and her right arm, tugging a hand through her hair. She looked a bit more restless than usual, but any traces of her earlier odd behavior was gone. "You look like you're having an existential crisis."
Alex just shrugged a shoulder in reply, removing his own helmet and running a hand though his hair, “Just thinking.” He muttered, giving Cammy a small glance, still frowning.
Cammy tossed her helmet hand to hand, her grin faltering just a bit as she tilted her head. "Penny for your thoughts?"
“You’ll think I’m insane. I definitely do.” Alex scratched at the back of his neck, feeling his cheeks heat up the slightest bit.
"Maybe I already think you're insane." Cammy quipped, before reaching up to tap the marks on her cheeks. "C'mon, man. I just found out I'm half alien. Anything goes at this point."
Alex nodded before he pulled out his dagger, handing it to Cammy, “See the mark on the handle? I saw one the same on the Galra ship.”
Cammy's eyes widened a fraction as she studied the knife, holding it up to look at. "First off, wicked. And second, you're serious? This mark?"
“Yeah. But also…” Alex sighed, “When I was looking for Red, everything felt… familiar. Like, really familiar. And before those guards attacked me, I could… understand most of what they were saying.” He took the knife back, putting it away.
"So waddya think that means?" Cammy asked, raising an eyebrow. She had a few different ideas, of course. But this was something he should probably be figuring out.
“I’m… Galra. Someone in my family was Galra. You know what that means, right?” Alex looked over at Cammy, worry clear in his eyes.
"It means you're Galra." Cammy shrugged her shoulders in a 'I don't know what else you want me to say' gesture. "Hey, now I'm not the only alien hybrid on the team."
"No, that's not what I meant," Alex grabbed Cammy's upper arm to stop her walking, "It means I'm the enemy. I'm Allura's number one enemy. You can't tell anyone."
Cammy stiffened as Alex grabbed her arm, pulling to an immediate stop. "Last I checked, I was the only one who considered you the enemy. But," She looked over at him, struggling to keep herself from tugging away from his grip. "I won't." She held up one hand, pinky extended. "Don't worry."
Alex eyed her pinky finger for a moment before interlacing his own with hers, "Thank-you." He pulled away, not sparing another glance at Cammy as he walked inside the castle.
Cammy trailed along behind him, at a slower pace as she dug around her bag for her cigarettes. She pulled a half full bottle of wine out of the bag to get it out of the way, her tongue poking out as she searched.
The rustling behind Alex caught his attention and he turned back to look at what it was. If he had an opinion on the wine he didn’t comment.
"Where'd they go…" Cammy muttered, furrowing her brows as she continued to rummage. "Nicotine nicotine nicotine."
Alex rolled his eyes, “You know smoking isn’t good for you.”
"That's the point." Cammy muttered, not paying all that much attention to the words coming out of her mouth as her searching grew a tad bit frantic.
Alex sighed, running his hand though his hair slowly, “You’re going to be the death of me…”
"Wha's 'at supposed t' mean?" Cammy asked, furrowing her brows as she looked up at him.
Alex shook his head, waving a hand like he was waving off the question, “Nothing, don’t worry about it.”
