This isn't really torture but yeah
He sacrificed himself to save his friends. His girlfriend comforted herself knowing that he will come back, eventually. (They are immortal) He does come back, more than two centuries later. He doesn't remember a thing about her (or anyone else). The healers reassure her that this is fairly common, that he'll gradually get his memories back. But that doesn't explain why he speaks a language that they identify as coming from a different world. When another friend attempted to communicate with him through a mind link, he was hysterical, saying she died in something called "engine malfunction". Later they figured out that the reborn man who looks identical to the man who died 200 years ago found at the Gate was actually a girl from a different world. There was no precedent to this kind of event, not in recorded history anyway, and people have no idea what happened to the original man. Also, the girlfriend is almost identical to the otherworldly girl's girlfriend
Well, i ripped my one OC's arm off, Scarred him, used horrible magic on him, killed 90% of his species, including his soon-to-be- wife, and had him step on a Lego.
I had one character have her parents possessed. They then tortured her in front of a crowd of demons and monsters. She then escaped momentarily, got the family gun and executed her parents. She was 8 at the time. She renamed the gun to Lullaby because when she was in a corner staring at her parent's corpses that was the only comfort she had.
and had him step on a Lego.
I laughed way too hard when I read this.
Im good at this, arent I?

The lego part is terrifying to comprehend my friend
Okay, here we go.
Piper Cantrell, who is twelve, gets put under mind control and ends up killing her best friend (and would have been her love interest, we were building up to it) Angel Blackwell, who was also twelve. When the spell breaks she cradles Angel's dead body and sobs. Then she ends up going back to the group covered in Angel's blood and tells them Angel died. Camari Blackwell (Angels older sister who served as more of a mother to him) breaks down and starts sobbing. Piper doesn't know how to tell them that she is the one who killed Angel and feels immense guilt over it. She ends up killing herself, leaving both Jayden and Camari in despair.
There is more but if I list it all the list will never end.
The High King sent his twin sons and wife away to ensure their safety. On the year of the princes' majority, their mother was killed by people sent by the enemy organisation. They escaped the assassins to make way to the capital but they were abducted by bandits on the way. When they escaped the bandits they ran into the same organisation that killed their mother. The princes were psychologically tortured, as well as people constantly asking them which of them to kill. In the end, the elder brother sacrificed himself to let his brother run. The younger prince saw his brother beaten to a bloody pulp, but instead of killing him, the organisation healed him and trained him into their assassin. They forced him to marry a girl he liked (he liked her but didn't want to drag her into the mess) and poisoned her to keep her weak (poison then cure, day by day) then forced them to have children, knowing that he'll never leave without them and he couldn't escape with them all. They also threatened to kill his family if he stepped out of line. He was essentially their killing machine for years, and there was no mind control or anything like that.
When he did escape, he lost two of his three children and his wife.
I made a beautiful love story but then I took the guys wife, tortured her in front of him and then killed her by the guy being forced to shoot her. And when he went to go save their son that was kidnapped by the same people, he held the little 2 year olds hand but then he heard a gun shot and the boy fell limp in his hand… The same man that had took the wife had killed the son. The character had a ton of emotional baggage…………..
Had my character's little sister burn to death in an old warehouse. She was pinned down while forced to watch the building collapse on top of her. The worst part for her was knowing she broke her promise to bring her someplace safe.
My characters tend to be impulsive, and I try no to be awful to them but I've killed their parents, had them put in an orphanage with an emotionally abusive caretaker, their dog dies, she broke up with her boyfriend over a crush on a straight girl, they deal with bullying from their friend's twin sister etc.

Dude. Just, wow. Good stuff.
Lol I had something similar.
Leah got her leg pinned down by debris in an explosion and it needed to be amputated. Her friend/boyfriend Jayson is forced to watch from the sidelines but his sister (who caused the explosion) drags him off and he doesn't see Leah again for 3 years.
I had one second heartbreak from reading that.
I've had my main character's youngest sister "Pix" or "Princess" (5) go to bat for her, she gets kicked, punched, stabbed in the arm, thrown against a wall, locked in a cell, been starved, attempted to be brainwashed, and emotionally abused. While my character only knows she's been kidnapped. When she finds her sister she ends up knocking out three guards and hurting her sister's friend. so, trust issues after that.
Her friend Calais is put under mind control and is under constant psychological testing by evil scientists. Also my main character Aubree has this weird thing where she believes that it was her fault bc she let him get taken while on a mission.
Aubree has been struck by lightning, temporarily paralyzed, 3rd degree burns, cut, proven "insane" because she can talk to the narrator Alice, drowned, knocked out, tortured (not sure how yet but it'll be painful), shot in the leg, crushed under a school bus, stuck in a burning tree, hung upside down, had her arm overextended while attempting to catch top secret information, and trapped in a time stop for two weeks because she didn't know how to control her magic yet. She also learns that her dad was a host to one of the Noble Ones and is being hunted for treason because of it. Her mom is stalked by paparazzi because she was a very important leader in the revolution that took place 5 years before Aubree was born.
My main protagonist got possessed and killed his own parents only to become friends with the demon later and find out what he did.
