Yeah

I’m pretty mean I guess

But I love Zackary and Cameron to bits

Oh did I mention they almost fell for each other when they met? Cameron was forced to choose between Zackary and Xanthe, and Cameron picked Xanthe so oof

A mistake

@Starfast group

I am so glad this got asked, because a lot of my characters have been through some truly terrible stuff.

I tortured my youngest character. I really didn't want to have to do that, but just due to circumstances and how the story played out it had to be that character specifically. I can't bring myself to cut it out of the story because it's the first real glimpse of the main villain and if they spare the character or go easy on him then there's no reason really for anyone to believe that he's a good villain (and there's also no good reason why the villain should spare him).

Anyways. A lot of my characters don't have good relationships with either one or both parents. It usually ranges from "my parents and I don't exactly see eye to eye" and "My parents are straight up abusive." I've also killed off loved ones, near death experiences, dealt with running away/homelessness. A lot of just really dark situations.

But I think that maybe the worst thing that I've done, is that I made a character who can fly.

And then I made him absolutely terrified of heights.

Honestly I think there might be something wrong with me due to how much I literally torture my characters…. but hey! Imma writer so who cares!

Aquaramis, the one who was kidnapped, went from a shy kid to a derange maniac. Something is wrong with me too.

I have a pair of twins (technically triplets but their sister is a side character) anyway one is a kid of prophecy the other is possessed and tortured and force to try to kill his younger twin, he is left mentally damaged after this and btw the younger twin can feel the sheer agony the elder one is in on a regular basis and did I mention that the older one literally kidnaps the youngers kids to get at him while he is still injured from their last encounter? Dont even get me started on what I did to the younger twins son….

Frick, there is this whole part where Aquaramis fights with his brother and when Solokind, his brother, goes and apologizes, Aquaramis walks away without showing any emotion, which breaks Solokind's heart because he wants to be friends like they were when they were kids. The reason Aquaramis hides his emotions is because at the prison, if the prisoners start crying, show fear, or anything like that, the guards will brutally hurt them, so in order to survive, Aquaramis had to hide his feelings. But, however, it cared out outside the prison.

Awww…. btw did I mention those twins and their sister were separated at nine and the twins meet (after the older one gets possessed) at like 12ish also their mom vanished and their dad was killed and the younger has always felt like it was his fault because the prophecy was about him and stuff and my villan is only hurting the others to get at him and he keeps trying to bear it alone and stuff…. if the older one doesnt have mental issues the younger one definetly does…. oh and the sisters daughter saves the younger twins life and goes missing and he thinks that shes dead and basically erases everyone's memories of the daughter because he cant bear to face it….

That turned into a much longer post than I meant it too…….

But still dont get me started on what I did to the younger twins son

I've done some pretty dark things to my characters. Although, the darkest thing I've done to one of them I won't say here, so I'll just go for the somewhat nicer things but still pretty bad,
One of my characters had been experimented on by another one of my characters. The experimenter is an rogue alien, who had never seen a human before, so they document their findings on this human.
Another one jumped on top of a grenade.
The other one, involved in the same story, stepped on an old mine.
Some of them are sniped.
One of the characters in my story became a gladiator for an alien race. She was taken and she was forced to fight others of her kind. The more she won, the more weapons and armour she was given to fight with. The aliens pretty much treated her like an animal too, training her to fight. If she refused, they gave her a warning with a electric whip crack. Eventually, she just sorta breaks; kinda becomes 'emotionless.' When she is rescued and brought back to Earth she's pretty much scarred mentally and physically and rarely speaks, although she is a vital part later on in the story, and she does end up smiling again at some point.
I've also had characters tortured, eaten alive and such. I have a collection of characters who are 'currently' dead although I just use them in their live forms.

Hmmm I guess I'll throw some of my characters in here, if y'all don't mind.
Xander: Is orphaned at a young age and turns to thieving. Finds some hope only to be hit with the harsh reality he's ruined his own life with crime.
Elizah:Has issues with relationships, family and romantic. Is never sure if other people love her because those she loves don't express it very well. Watched her brother die, brought him back, still never felt loved or appreciated. Is in love with someone who loves her too but doesn't want to act on it yet. None of this is resolved before she dies.
Niko: Gets injured a lot over the course of the story, including some things that should've been fatal (but uhhh healing magic lets me cheat. I won't go into the gruesome details). Both his sister and his best friend die in front of him.
Ilya: Very violent by nature because of his past. Orphaned at a fairly young age. Coerced into sticking with the Mafia as a hit man because otherwise they would kill his sister. When he finally does get to free himself and his sister from them, he ends up horribly injured and loses a leg.
Marin: "Lost" her father and brother at a young age, only to find out that her father had taken her brother and left, and that her brother is a thief by trade now.
Donatella: Kind of a ray of sunshine and is under the constant pressure to keep smiling, even though she's always felt inferior to her sister, and her trade is mercenary work, which is largely centered around killing. It was just the best way to make money.
Asa: Emotional support, but underappreciated, and no one's ever there for him when he breaks down. Also is under constant stress, as he thinks his husband might be a target of the government, and that would be his fault, but it's going to be a long journey to return to him.
Vida: Used as blackmail for Ilya, and there was nothing she could do about it. Frequently tortured because of this. She's only 13…
Giordan: Really sick most of the time and feels inferior to everyone else, as he can't seem to keep up with them and is constantly needing help with his health. Has been told he won't live to see the age of 30. He's 27 in the story. Does not live to meet his daughter.
Jemison: Watches his wife and two of his four kids die. He is injured when he tries to do something about it, and while some revenge was exacted, that wouldn't return his lost family.

I had one of my characters suffer abuse in their childhood then grow up to become a twisted and broken dictator.

@HighPockets group

Ooh I forgot some:
Cameron: Gets his tongue cut out by his boss by accidentally being rude to her brother.

Morgan: Disowned by her mom because she's a lesbian. Held hostage at one point by Jackson's ex-boss.
Jackson: Disowned by his mom for defending Morgan. Also gets shot, stabbed, and generally beat up over the course of the story. Also has his two favorite sisters held hostage because of one mistake he made.
Geneva: Almost shatters her arm in a car crash that kills her best friend/business partner and essentially ruins her trajectory of becoming one of the best lawyers yet.
Julie: Abducted and held hostage for no reason besides being Jackson's half-sister.
Martha: Is being chased by an assassin and she doesn't know why.
Maxwell: Works really hard to try and advance in his company but is ridiculed and ignored by the higher ups because he used to be rich and then lost most of his money. After he's finally engaged to his girlfriend, he's held hostage because he gets mistaken for someone else. He's minutes from having his tongue mutilated when Jackson saves him.
amy (the most wonderful woman in the world): Has really bad anxiety but has to give a speech in class.
Erica: Outs herself to ask a girl to prom, only to be rejected in front of everyone.

I love this thread cause we all ge to show how evil we all are.

@HighPockets group

Della: Has really bad depression that doesn't really go away at all.
Theo: Has social anxiety and when he tries to solve a mystery (he's a wannabe detective) it ends up getting his future brother-in-law held hostage. Also his parents kind of ignore him and Erica.

Sara: Sees her girlfriend get killed but can't do anything about it.
Kira: Loses her arm during the war. She's only in her teens.
Tristan: Loses his wife in childbirth and then dies when his son is only 9.

@HighPockets group

I just realized that the same three families have a pseudo-love-triangle thing going on 6 years after the main one…
The first is Amira/Emily/Oliver and the second is Meg/Jon/Oliver.

@Althalosian-is-the-father book

All right I need therapy.
Aria. Saw the body presumed to be her husbands and refuses to believe it's him. Is considered by everyone else to be in denial. Finally breaks down when she realizes the man she loves is dead and she has to raise his child alone. (Yeah he comes back.)
Falaun. (Her husband) Is forced to witness another elf brutally murdered, then imprisoned and tortured.
Siry. Tortured for the whereabouts of the rest of her team.
Rollan. (As he sees) Left in a burning building because he was not a "prophecy child". He serves Morlus, (evil god of death dude) who promises him revenge.
Ouran. Comes to the battle right as his gf dies.
Alec. Distrusted and hated by Sorace (leader of the elementalists) because his power is Darkness. (Sorace was the leader of the team who took down dark powers.)
Aya Sannami. On an assassination mission to kill Addar the evil dictator. Problem is she loves him.
Kirisan Adiachi. On same mission to avenge the brutal death of his love Yarri Undama.
Jayla Torez. Loves Addar and sacrifices her life for him.
Soáki, God of Darkness, Chaos, and Destruction. Falls in love with a mortal. (Alena) She gets murdered by his nemesis Neirym.
Alena. Is murdered by a sociopathic god. This one is the worst. I nearly cried over this one. Alena ain thing is that she is never afraid. This girl can handle herself in any situation. So it hurt so much to see her break
before Neirym. Even more so because I felt guilty for making her go through that all (it was awful) before develping a loving relationship with her.
Jania Taylor. Her father ran away when she was little. Her mother died a year later. Enough said.
Zaralinda Gozan. Was bounced around the foster system for a while. Met her (non-biological) sister Anna, and managed to stay with her for a while. Was trapped in an abusive situation for years. Ran away with Anna and her boyfriend before things started happening to Anna. Is constantly terrified of anything happening to the people she loves.
Anna Johnson. Was raised in a abusive household. Terrified of loud noises and raised hands. Slightly autistic.
Grace Stevens. Was protected by a man who testified falsely in court for her. (She killed a boy who was threatening her sister.) Was later forced to become his slave or risk exposure and the death of her family.
Evan Clarkwood. Forced to gain Graces trust and then betray her. Does so even though he loves her, believing it is his only chance to gain freedom.
And that's all I have today!

@HighPockets group

Ah yes I forgot to mention that andrew (Our Supreme Lord and Overseer) (who's already scared of water from one near drowning) is drowned by Jayson, who's kind of a little brother to him because Jayson needed to do exactly what his sister said or Leah would be killed.

There is this quote that I saw a while back. I can't remember the exact words, but it said something like this: "The reason why writers are mean to their characters is because they can't do what they do to their characters to people in real life."

@Kinarymo

Worst thing i've done to a character was to make them be born blind and then lose their family, get adopted, their health state getting worse in time, to the point where they can start couching up blood and possibly pass out if they go past their physical effort limit. After that, they end up losing their powers and what was left of their emotional stability. It sorta pains me to do this to them, as they're my favorite character out of the entire cast :')))
