I don't know about you, but I'm pretty sadistic to my characters. For as long as I can remember, I always liked it when the hero is knocked down very hard, whether it's emotionally or physically, and then watch them over come it… eventually. So I want to know what other people have done to their characters.

Ooooh

So many things. The worst I’ve done I swear probably kill my most broken character repeatedly (I think it was five times total) then bring him back to suffer more.

I have a character who's father turns from a non-existent figure in their life, to an abusive jerk who nearly drove them to suicide twice.

@blue_topaz

huge writer mood right there

hmmmmmmmmmmmm probably that one time I took a little girl character, had her family abuse her in every single way, then had her sold of to a slave camp for twelve years before she finally managed to escape, only to be caught and tortured almost to death, escape again, live a life on the run, be framed for a murder she didn't commit, live a few years in prison, escape, be caught by her original masters, and finally killed
slowly

@blue_topaz

training people to be slaves under the rule of the empire before they're sent to serve some aristocrat. She kept rebelling and trying to run which is why they deemed her too dangerous to send out yet and tried to break her spirit

Another character I have in the same family as the last one was sold to an inhumane medical testing prison for five years because he could use magic. When he finally got out, the amount of medicine that was pumped into his body turned him from a quiet, kind introvert, to a sadist, vengeful psychopath.

@SaltyLasagna

I could get into the physical and mental torture I've put some characters through just so I could give them a good backstory, but I'd have to say the worst thing I've ever done is kill off a child character… she was an 8 year old girl going to her older brother's high school graduation, which is when the shooting happened in the book…. it's a scene that I dread writing and something that hurts my heart to even think about…

The angst I have my characters go through when the depressed guy tries to kill himself the second time hurts too because they think it's his first time attempting suicide until he admits he done it before.

thinking intently on what I’ve done

OOH I know!

Okay so I have two twin brothers who absolutely hate each other with a passion. And they’re immortal (until some mess happens, but in this situation they’re immortal). So they get into a fight and somehow a gun and a knife is brought in. The elder twin stabs his twin in the stomach, while the younger twin shot him in the head. They’re both fine, but I was foreshadowing their real deaths. The eldest twin gets shot in the head on an investigation (he’s a PD), while the youngest gets assassinated (he’s a King) with two stabs in the stomach.

To add: the eldest gets killed first, while in the first situation he died second. AND the younger twin (when the eldest died) was heartbroken.

How about I tell you about how the father and the mother got together?

The father, Moonwolf (He is from a tribe), is in love with the Queen, Sapphire, but she loved another person. One day, Sapphire unintentionally drinks a hardcore beer and gets extremely drunk to the point that she doesn't remember what she did that night. Moonwolf, learning about this, LIES to her, saying that they lied in bed together without protection, causing her paranoia, thinking her reputation is tarnished and her respectability as a Queen is lost. She even starts having pregnant symptoms because of her paranoia. So, in order to maker look like a good queen, she marries Moonwolf, even though she loved another. Once she realized that she was lied to, it was too late to go back on the marriage (Wouldn't it look odd for a Queen to suddenly divorce someone she married not that long ago?) She then tells Moonwolf that while she will love the children she bares, she will never love him, causing him to tell her that he won't love the children. After the second son gets kidnapped, Sapphire learned that Moonwolf sold him. She confronts him about it and said that she would tell everyone everything that happened between them. However… she has a heart attack and dies, leaving the children to the father to raise alone.

I'm such a monster…

Uhhhh I'll do one for each of my characters if that's okay:
Jon: He works super closely with a guy he has a crush on for years planning a rebellion, but said guy is greyromantic/sexual and only ever loved Jon's older sister, who died. Jon also gets stabbed and almost bleeds out in the arms of his girlfriend.
Meg: Is under the impression that Jon killed her sister when he didn't. Then has her wrist broken and has to watch Jon nearly bleed out in her arms while her sister's actual killer taunts her.
Joan: Is separated from her sister and her cousin for a while only to return and find both of them injured, one of them because of something that she thinks is her fault.
Oliver: Loses his fiancee before they were about to marry, then dedicates the next few years of his life to try and avenge her only to die before the rebellion is won.
Nich: Is shot in the shoulder and then has it dislocated by an ex-friend of his while another friend watches. And then has to choose between shooting his cousin or his cousin's girlfriend/his close friend.
Ansel: Watches his mom and sister die, then has his two front teeth knocked out for trying to intervene.
Therese: Has to watch her friend be injured and mocked while she stays hidden.
Nella: Is constantly in danger of being killed due to the nature of her job, and knows that if she dies her sister will likely go mad with grief.
Samuel: Endures years of abuse by his employer, and is forced into the rebellion as her spy.
Darius: Has parts of two fingers cut off.
Winifred: Has to live knowing that the rest of her family is most likely dead in another country.

Asher: Has to live knowing that his home country is in ruins and it's partially his fault.
Fern: Is kidnapped as a child and has amnesia but doesn't know it. What she remembers about her kidnapping gave her PTSD so she can't have her eyes or ears covered.
Huxley: Had to watch his father's execution when he was nine, and still has nightmares about it 10 years later. Also is basically told that he's dispensible and is belittled and mocked for those 10 years.
Ayla: Has to live knowing that her apprentice sacrificed himself for her.
Carrie: Essentially traded Nich's life for her own so she could have a better life, only to find that her sister who she was going to move in with was dead.
Lysander: Dies bloodily at the age of 16.
Adalia: Has her husband killed and her daughter kidnapped, and also has an illness that will eventually kill her.

Izzy: Is tricked into siding with the wrong side and nearly goes insane.
Stephen: Watches both of his parents die, and then is killed right after reuniting with his girlfriend.
Jayson: Belittled and manipulated his whole life, and dies at 17.
Leah: Loses both of her most loved people and her leg in an explosion.
andrew (Our Supreme Lord and Overseer): Belittled, mocked, and manipulated his whole life. Finally finds happiness but dies before turning 21.
Francesca: Her husband dies before knowing she was pregnant and she dies in childbirth.

I'm such a nice person lol!!

Oooooooohhhh I so wanna do that to my main characters

But I feel like I’ve had too much say in this chat ;u;

@The-N-U-T-Cracker

Oh boy. Well, I don't torment my characters often, but when I do… Luna, for example, has grown up in a time of war and long story short she sacrificed herself and split the universe and many families apart including her own, then because magic she got a second life as a spirit and a lot of her spirit friends betrayed her and then killed her loyal friends and she had to hide for centuries before she was finally found and died a painful death in Rikuto's arms. And then my character Akira has a mostly happy life until she's captured tormented and then finally shot in the head. Rikuto is semi-immortal (He can't die of age or bleed out) and is constantly haunted by his fear that he'll have to watch his whole family die, and every time he starts to get over it… POOF Luna dies in his arms or POOF Akira is shot in the head. So yeah. I am evil. But the rest of my characters are perfectly happy! You just can't tell from Mika's constantly grumpy face. (Note: I'm probably going to change all of their names so please don't judge them)

@Painted-Iris group

I've made young characters abused, disowned, kill, have extreme self doubt, and had them do self harm.
As for older characters I've had one try commit suicide, cut, other forms of self harm, and try to starve herself. Another I've had enslaved with a collar that forces away most of their will.

@Imperfect_Autumn group

My most developed character’s boyfriend is a part of an organization that is trying to kill her, but she doesn’t know it. He also killed her parents, which she also doesn’t know. And the only reason he started dating her was because the organization wanted him to get close to her and gain her trust, but then he fell in love with her. So when she finds out about all of it, it breaks her heart.

(This is long and probably very confusing)

**Metaphorical “M”— ** M is absolutely one of my favorite characters ever. Which results in extreme pain from him. cackles

In total, what I’ve done to him is minuscule to what I’ve done to others, but he’s my main character.

I’ve mainly given him symptoms of BPD, or Borderline Personality Disorder, which is the BEST thing ever to write and RP with. With it, I’ve mainly focused on his failing relationships, and how many he’s had. He has had numerous relationships and they were all ruined because of his..

Well…

And that’s all for him, really, but he was the eldest twin in my previous post.

Cameron T. Metzler — Cameron is also one of my favorite characters, but he isn’t a main character. He’s more of an influential side character than anything. He’s also the character I’ve possibly damaged the most, since I’ve had him for so long.

It starts out in his childhood, where he was abandoned with his two sisters by his parents. They left them near a gov’t facility, where they were taken on and raised as soilders. This is where Cameron stems out his psychopathic personality. Not to mention how charming, intelligent and handsome he grew from his past too.

Another main part I have thrown against him (well not me my RP partner mainly) is his relationship. He has a steady relationship (for a psycho) with a woman named Xanthe. To put things nicely, over a span of time, she and Cameron experienced bumps because Cameron was so protective of her. She felt restrained and imprisoned. When I introduced M (whom she had known since childhood), Xanthe felt love for M instead, leaving Cameron in the dust with their kids. He’s also a hitman but we’re not gonna talk about that.

Zackary N. Williams—

Another character I love to death. He was so sweet as a kid, and I lavished in that, now that he’s such a damaged adult. Well… let me just jump right in.

As a child, Zackary’s family was great. He was the older brother of three (the youngest not to be born until years later). It was great, till he was like, three or four. His mother’s and father’s love was forbidden (since their families, the Williams and the Akinsons were both magical families, and they had to keep to themselves. The same is for the Metzlers. Keep this in mind), so a special Cult dedicated to Gods of that world hunted down the homey little cottage Zackary and his family lived and BURNED THAT BITCH TO THE GROOOOUUUNDDDDD. Oliver (his brother) and Mary (his mother) died. Oliver was reincarnated as a Spirit (it’s one of my lores) and his mother was… well she was turned into a Ghost. Zackary’s father, Garret, saved Zackary from the fire as he fled from it. Garret died shortly after, after begging for magic (he wasn’t a magic user, unlike the most of his family) from a fake God. This left little Zackary on his own. OH but it doesn’t end there. He was manipulated to take a contract with a strong Demon, who harnessed Zackary’s sleeping magic from his father and forced it into the bad side of things. He tried to make Zackary a criminal. This was the basis for his teen years.

Soon, though, Dent’s plan gets figured out by the sharp Zackary and Zackary fights back. But loses. He almost gets killed, but Oliver, his Spirit brother in sleep steps in and saves Zackary before he bleeds out to death from the five claw marks down his head. These leave scars. But this event influences Zackary’s change in heart and General mood, which changes his Demon nickname (it’s more lore stuff) to Wings, since the Demon-styled Wings He had previously changed. This never happens in Demon-realm.

Hmmm that’s all I can think of for him, other than the fact that he was VERY lonely after Dent died and Oliver was a Spirit. And he had a really messy love life.
