"Fuck it, might as well give them a show. You wanna be in the maze?"
"Fuck it, might as well give them a show. You wanna be in the maze?"
He shook his fists in sarcastic enthusiasm. "Hell yeah!"
"This is going to be a disaster," he said, shaking his head.
"Ah, but the sooner we get out, the sooner we can leave and have some fun. I'm itchin' to steal somthin'."
Rhydar and Runner were called up first. "Head on in to a waiting room while we get set up. The rest of you as well. You'll all see the entire thing and use that to make your plans."
"Oh, great," Rhydar said in a chipper voice. "We're the rats."
"Just remember," he said, pointing a finger. "If I say stop, you fucking stop."
He held his hands up in mock surrender. "Aye, aye, Captain."
"Good." He then looked around. "Where the hell are we supposed to wait?"
The rest of the competition filed through opening tunnels, and Rhydar led him to one that no one was going through. "Through here."
He followed, rubbing the side of his neck. "This is very ritualistic."
They entered a tunnel, and the heavy stone doors slid shut, sealing them in. Torches along the walls were already lit. Rhydar opted for sitting on a bench instead of admitting that he didn't know what that word meant. Hey–English wasn't his first language. He unconsciously clicked two of his rings together in a steady beat as he leaned forward, bracing his forearms on his knees.
Runner chose to pace back and forth instead, rubbing his hands together in anticipation.
"I kinda just wanna fail this thing just to get it over with," Rhydar mused to himself, then went off on a tangent in his native tongue about all the pros and cons of doing such a thing.
"I have no fucking clue what you just said." He shook his head and sighed. "But cool, I guess."
He leaned back, blowing stay hairs from his face. "Ignore me. I'm just being a coward–as usual."
"Welcome to the club. I nearly dropped out of the fight after the qualifier," he admitted, cursing himself when he realized where was a floating camera right over his head,
He looked up, then lifted a ringed finger-gun, the ring glowing before a bolt of electricity shot from the ring and overloaded the camera. "Nosy busybodies."
"They'll send another one pretty soon, I'm guessing. But…yeah." He rubbed the right side of his face with his palm. "I just felt like something bad was gonna go down, and I was right."
He sighed heavily. "This is why I left…" then he tilted his head. "What was the bad thing? Tess?"
He shook his head. "Cin tried to take me down. I was saved by the buzzer."
He snorted, leaning his head back against the stone wall and closing his eyes. "Don't underestimate Baby Sis. She'll rip your throat out given the reason and chance. Ruthless, she is. Guess she had to be, with how she was raised."
"I was smart enough to stay outta her way. But now Cin's after me. And I know for damn sure I can't summon my dragon again." He sighed. "I'm gonna get shredded if we get past this."
"Everyone's after everyone. It's one v one after this, regardless of allegiance. And it wasn't just Cin after you. I saw Death-Boy after you too, until things got a little heated."
"Death-boy?" He tilted his head in confusion. "Are you talking about that phoenix?"
"Nah. Demitri. Shadows? Rae was the Phoenix that went after the other one–Bast."
"Oh, fun, a tag-team," he groaned.
