He immediately laid down on his back when he landed, his chest heaving. "I'm…too fat….for that."
He immediately laid down on his back when he landed, his chest heaving. "I'm…too fat….for that."
She sat next to him, poking his cheek. "It's called exercise, genius. Builds muscle. Makes you look like a badass even though you're a cinnamon roll on the inside."
"Shush, I'm a badass inside and out."
She laughed, falling to her back to lay next to him. "Sure. Whatever makes you sleep at night." She gazed up at the sky, eyes unaffected by the sunlight. "I brought you here because this place helps me think while also escaping reality. No one comes up here, so I'm all alone. I figured you needed something like that to sort through everything." She laughed through her nose and closed her eyes. "I'm still sorting through my demons, but it helps."
"Well, I'm sorting through me as a demon. It's weird, to be honest. I get these crazy urges to go, like, light shit on fire or kill someone who annoys me."
"Saaaaaaaame." She still didn't open her eyes, smiling idly.
He frowned. "You're not going to be happy about this, but I've been using hellfire. A lot, actually. More than magic. It turned blue this one time fighting this twat Fassor, who tried to recruit me to some, like, Steel Giants or some shit. He's lucky someone was there to hold me back, or I would've beat his ass."
She didn't react. "There's a start. I know what hellfire is–Cinthia uses it occasionally. It's the Bronze Giants, and you should've smoked his ass. Save me the trouble."
He sighed. "And there's some nutcases I found in Roswell. Converted the place into a fucking forest in the middle of New Mexico. All of it was about some temple, covered in these runes. It was so powerful that some Russian chick stopped me with a card. Well, the idiots let some bullshit sorcerer take over the place and use it to control a bunch of the citizens in the town. I just kinda walked in there and threw him into a wall before getting dragged out. But the temple, like chose me, whatever that means." He paused for a moment. "I think we can take down my dad with it."
She sighed, then turned towards him, tucking her arms under her head. Her eyes were closed and her wing was lazily draped over her body, the other tucked behind her.
"Am I getting to serious?" He asked.
Her lips parted, and a light snore escaped them.
"Okay, great talk," he said with a slight chuckle.
No matter the intensity of the sun, Tess always found herself falling asleep on the cliff. She curled her body up, drawing her knees close to her chest. A habit from sleeping in the streets as a child. However, her magic rolled unhappily at being unused, and she trembled slightly. She was unaware in her sleeping state.
He felt the rumble in his chest as her magic stirred, frowning slightly. I wonder… He probed the magic gently with his right hand, testing to see if it would harm her if he took some.
The beast beneath her skin jerked at being touched, but eagerly fed the unknown entity some of its power. If she wouldn't use it, someone might as well.
He grunted, snapping up with wide eyes. USE IT NOW! He threw a hand out and channelled it all through his arm, an jet of flame flying out almost 50 feet past the lip of the ledge. He rubbed his nose, blinking a few times in confusion.
She stirred, but did not wake. She felt…lighter. Her whole body relaxed visibly and her head hit the dirt, falling off her arms.
He tilted his head back and forth, wincing as a loud crack broke the tightness in it.
((Why not have Cin pop in while she's asleep?
((Sure. But she'll be all sweaty and shirtless from the tournament. Just saying))
((I was actually waiting for Runner to, like, study Tess while she was sleeping and at her most vulnerable))
((Ah, like, how? Magically, visually?
((Visually. Cuz, y'know, crush and all?))
He turned to Tess, twisting around to get a better view. She looks…peaceful, for once. Less stressed out. At ease. I wish I could give her this all the time.
Her eyes darted back and forth beneath her lids, dreaming. A ghost of a smile.
