A 5 foot 2 dark-skinned girl wandered aimlessly down an abandoned road, tugging nervously at the small beaded braids in her hair. On either side of her were endless fields of swaying grass, slowly yellowing from the increasing bite in the wind. She carried a single bag slung over her narrow shoulder, hefting it back up every so often. Pouches along her closely tied belt bounced with each step she took. Hidden jewels jangled. She drew her fur coat tighter around her chest with her free hand, not used to the cold. Her round amber eyes darted around her as if someone was about to pop up–or as if she was in search of something. She looked like a lost little girl to most, the rare carriage offering her a ride back home. She politely shook her head. Thank you, but I am in search of something else.
She suddenly stopped, sighing. "I don't like this. I'm going against her orders."
A male voice spoke in her ears through her earpieces. "You'll be fine as long as she doesn't find out. She's busy enough as it is. It will take a while to find out you're missing."
She scowled as if he could see her. "Are you saying I'm invisible because I'm short?" An unspoken threat hung in the air.
"Wouldn't dream of it. Relax. He technically said to find him, and she is known for her flexibility when it comes to following rules…"
She blew out a breath. "Fine." She lifted up the slipping bag once more and continued on her search.
Runner felt the presence once again, sighing slightly. Who it was, he did not know, but if there was a sticky situation, he could always hellfire his way out of it. I'm starting to like this too much. The power. It's starting to take over.
The girl blew out some fraying strands of hair, frustrated. "Okay, this is bull. I might be physically fit, but this much walking is ridiculous." She sat down in the middle of the road and shoved her hands against the hard-packed dirt, letting the bag fall to the side. A tremor along the earth erupted from where her hands were, spreading out in ripples until they faded away, miles from where she sat. "If he's close, he'll feel this." She continued to sit, legs tired and body exhausted from her shivering.
He, taken completely unexpected from the ripple, fell on his ass with a thump, grumbling slightly. "Well, that was a sign," he said, rubbing the top of his head as he stood.
She perked up at the feeling of hitting someone with her tremors. "Bingo." She scrambled up, grabbing her bag, and continued on. About half a mile in, she paused and sent another tremor. "I'm sorry, but this is the only way I can locate you," she said, partly to herself as the person she sought was not there to hear. "Please don't hate me."
He fell again, this time landing on his back. He thought for a moment why this was happening, then his mind shifted to radar sensors on ships. They send out a ping, and whatever bounces back at them gets marked. Maybe that was the same concept. He closed his eyes and began slowly pulsing out energy, not enough to tire him, but enough for the person to feel it.
She grinned excitedly, nervousness at disobeying her leader's direct orders almost forgotten. He's close. I feel him. Then she felt the slight pulses of energy. She angled her body to follow its direction, then took out a dull and blunt emerald. "This might sting, but it's easier." She flicked the jewel, sending it flying towards the origin of the energy pulses. If it hit, she'd know where to go without causing property damage.
He opened his eyes, only to be skimmed by a flying item that landed into the grass. He sat up, rubbing his nose and picking up the gem, tilting his head in confusion.
She smiled, Found you, then took out another gem, enlarging it until it was big enough for her to stand on. She did just that and sent it flying, skimming over the fields and easily keeping balanced as she sped towards the person she sought.
He inspected the gem, then looked up, squinting his eyes at the approaching figure riding what looked like a flying surfboard.
The girl did a flip and gracefully landed on her feet like a cat just before Runner, catching the falling bag before it hit the ground. Her hover-gem shrunk back to size and both gems returned to their respective pockets along her belt. "Hello. I'm assuming you're the one who called?" She said, tilting her head up to look at him.
"I am." He looked just…like a 17 year old kid. A little chubby, but not to the point where it made him unattractive. His black T-Shirt was a few sizes too big and hung from his shoulders like a limp rag. His jeans were torn at his upper right thigh, and blood was stained throughout. When he spoke, a gap between where a front tooth should have been. "I need to apologize, although you might not know who I am."
"Runner," the tiny girl guessed confidently with out a hint of judgement. "The one I was told not to bother." She stuck out a small but thin hand, despite her curvy figure. "Junia." (She's not skinny, but she's not chubby, either. Just kinda… curvier…)
He shook her hand, wincing slightly. "Yeah, I'm sorry about that. Who was it that came to talk to me first? I know she had for ears, but he name slipped my mind."
((He hurt his hand catching Fassor's punch, btw
((Aw, the poor baby ):
Junia noted the wince but didn't say anything. "Kiriti. A kitsune from Lexath, the realm of peace. She's our healer."
That just makes him feel like an even bigger dick. "I want to apologize to her, first. I was very cruel to her for no reason."
Junia fiddled with an identifiable gem. "Yeah… she was kinda upset. Worried Fenris when she ran straight for him without a word. But Kiriti's also a sensitive soul, so she took it harder than most. She got over it, though." Junia shifted her weight. "I mean, it makes sense. Rough times, we didn't exactly make matters better." She nodded. "But I'll pass along the message."
He scratched the back of his head. "And…Tess? Is she mad?"
She snorted. "Tessa? She's thrown the biggest temper tantrum to rival all temper tantrums when Cinthia told us to leave you alone for a bit. I almost feel bad for the others who live in the dorms."
He rubbed his nose, the relief obvious in his eyes. "Can I talk to her?"
"Sure." Junia tapped her earpieces in a seemingly random pattern, then took them off and handed them to Runner. "You know how to use these, right?"
"I used it once, yeah." He slipped it into his ear and waited.
The voice in the other side exploded into his ear "JUNIA, I SWAER TO THE FUCKING GODS I AM NOT IN THE FUCKING MOOD!! WHAT THE FUCK DO YOU WANT SHORTY??!!"
