He hesitated for a moment, then simply said, "Hey."
He hesitated for a moment, then simply said, "Hey."
On the other side of the conversation, while sitting isolated in her wrecked dorm room, Tessa went completely still. And didn't say a word. It took a good minute for her to speak. "Oops…?"
He laughed slightly. "Glad to see you haven't changed, Tess."
"Takes more than a demon to change me. A locked basement definitely takes the win. And political parties. Fucking political parties. And don't get me started on men in lab coats…" she trailed off, knowing she was rambling. I've missed you Runner. More than I should've. She didn't have the guts to say it.
"Any way we could meet in person?" He asked, rubbing his nose. God, how I missed her voice.
"Um… I'm k–" The rest was an inaudible mumble. The embarrassment, however, was clear in her voice.
(Who's he talking to?)
He tilted his head, frowning. "What?"
"I'm….kinda…..grounded" she muttered, face burning with embarrassment even though he couldn't see her.
He groaned. "What did you do?"
She looked around her trashed room. "Cinthia told me not to do something. I threw a fit. Might have wrecked a few buildings. Definitely trashed by dorm room. And suspended."
He sighed. "Is no one allowed to see you?"
"No. I'm just not allowed to leave. June could probably smuggle you in. YOU HEAR THAT SHORTY??"
Junia looked up from where she sat on the ground, messing with an unfinished necklace. "Hm? Yeah, sure."
He flinched. "This is in my ear, you know."
"Oops." She started her poor attempt at cleaning her room. A few things feel and crashed against the floor.
"Why did you break so much stuff?" he asked again.
"Because I'm a very violent person, Runner." She said reasonably. "You can't expect a violent person with anger issues to sit idly by and clip flowers like a good little girl, twiddling her thumbs."
He sighed. "So you were mad at me."
"No, I was pissed at Cin." More things crashed. "Sonavabitch, that's heavy!"
He turned to Junia."So you can take me there?"
"MmmmHmm." She held up the necklace, testing it against Runner from where she still sat on the ground. "Not bad. Needs more metal," she muttered to herself.
He tilted his head. "You…channel your magic through the gems?"
"I'm a Giant," she said, still inspecting the necklace she had positioned around Runner's neck from where she held it up. "And an Isic. My magic and very being is closely tied to the earth and its creatures. I happen to be a jeweler, so I default to gems and metals. I know them better than anything else."
He gestured to what she was holding. "And that?"
"A necklace." She smirked and went back to tinkering with it.
