Muriel is the only child of the elven king and queen, making her the sole heir to the throne. Her mother tried to have more children but none were successful for reasons that could not be discerned by healers, so Muriel grew up alone. She never wanted for anything, however, always having the attention of her mother and father if she wanted it and happy to train to take over the country when the time came.

Eventually her mother passed, and Muriel was left devastated because the two had always been close. She set off to travel the world despite her father's pleas for her to stay, as Muriel knew she'd eventually be taking over for her father and she wanted to see first hand not only the citizens she'd be ruling but how other countries ruled and treated their people.

After years of this Muriel was recalled home by her father, as he'd found a suitable man for her to marry. Riker Millian was of a noble elven family, and he'd managed to convince the king he at least deserved a shot at courting the princess. So Muriel came back, and while she liked and trusted Riker she wasn't entirely sure if there was love there.

Over time, however, love did blossom between them. But it wasn't real; Riker was using his magic to manipulate her memories and her, hoping to marry her when she became queen then kill her to claim power himself. An adventuring party broke the spellwork and killed Riker, the chaos of the death of The Sovereign Galen following shortly thereafter.

Muriel took over her kingdom fully in the midst of chaos. Myrin had been attacked, she had technically died and been brought back, and the death of her father had also left her in a weird place mentally. But she managed to get a handle on things and help the kingdom recover, though she's maintained that love is not in her life any time soon - much to the chagrin of her advisors who know if she has no heir then the line is not secure if she should have an accident or otherwise die unexpectedly.
